1. The 10th grade students of Mallya Aditi International School visited the
hillstation Munnar, Kerala during the 6th to the 10th of August. We had the
opportunity of learning the ways of the Muthavan tribe by interacting with
them. On our stay, we soon learnt the lack of a proper shelter for their classes.
Putting ourselves in their shoes, we realize how hard it would be for us to sit in
the misty cold and rainy weather of the mountains and study. Our first
afternoon was spent planning out where and what exactly we were going to
do. Building a classroom was surely not as easy as it sounds. The rest of our
day we spent interacting with the kids who we were building the classroom
for. (ages 9-13) They thought us how to make our own bow and arrows and
how other small little things, which only inspired us further to build them a
classroom. Literally, our blood, sweat and tears went into the completion of
this project. It was a brilliant learning experience, we learnt how to mix
cement, build pillars and put up the roof, and by the end of it, we were
drenched in both cement and sweat.
The opening ceremony of our sucess project was initiated by the leader of the
Muthavan tribe. It was a tearful event, as it was out last day there with the
tribe. We left with heavy hearts and a greater perspective of things.
Special thanks to our teachers, Mr Joel and Mrs Jamaima who escorted us on
our trip.
