Research Paper On Domestic Violence
The topic I chose to do my research paper is Domestic Violence. This is an important social problem today as domestic violence can affect everyone
regardless of age, gender, marital status, economic status, race, religion, or geographical location. It affects society as a whole. There is no indication
to predict who will be the aggressor in a case of domestic violence, exposure is not always indicative of future behavior. There are warning signs, but no
outward signs in appearance.
The role of the family is to get the abuser help. This may incorporate the entire family. The idea that domesticviolence is something for the family of
victims (the entire family is a victim, mentally and physically) to be ashamed of is simply not true. The feeling

I.Some important things you need to know about domestic violence?
A.Domestic violence is a learned behavior, which is usually witnessed in the abusers home or learned through friends and pop culture.
1.Abusers seek to gain or maintain control by exerting their power over the victim. Abusers believe their desires are more important so they use
manipulation to make the victim less valuable because of their own insecurity.
2.Abuse is a choice abusers can control their behavior.
3.Domestic violence can affect any social or economic group.
4.Over a million women are victims to domestic violence around the world.

What is Domestic Violence? Essays
Domestic Violence Domestic violence is a pattern of physical and mental abuse and controlling behavior in a relationship and can happen to anyone,
regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender; this type of abuse can have both short and long term affects and can cause physical,
mental, and emotional pain. While abuse can happen to anyone, women are by far the most frequent victims and men are the most frequent abusers.
The U.S. department of justice estimates that 95 percent of the assaults on partners or spouses is committed by men against women (Toby). Even
though men normally abuse women, there are cases where men are victimized by their partners. Domestic violence is a major cause of injury to
women between the...show more content...
The abuser will find ways to make the victim feel that anything that goes wrong in the relationship is their fault. Soon after, if the controlling behavior
exceeds the abuser will no longer trust the victim and they will soon get suspicious even if the victim did not do anything; The abuser might get angry
and not satisfied with the victim's answer. The abuser will get increasingly frustrated and most likely will get physical at this point. The formation of a
fantasy bond will encourages the attitude that one person can define or victimize the victim in some way. It also supports the idea that one partner has
more control over the other. Therefore, the victim will most likely feel mistreated, and extremely angry towards the partner. There are two emotional
dynamics that contribute greatly to domestic violence. One involves the destructive thought process that the abuser experiences both towards
themselves and their partner, thoughts like one is not a man if they do not control their partner or maybe one thinking that their partner is making a
fool out of them; Of The expectation that men should be strong, masculine, and more powerful than women can be very destructive to a man at risk of
becoming violent. The shame triggered by the idea that they are appearing weak or unmanly can trigger some men to become enraged or to

Domestic Violence: A Brief Summary
On Wednesday, December 10, 2015 at approximately 0608 hrs, I was dispatched to 45 Lake Dr for a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, I
spoke to Tanya Branch (suspect) who stated that Jason Lewther (victim) was bothering everyone in the house. Branch stated that Lewther and Branch
are married but they were in the process of getting divorce. Branch also stated that Lewther had been drinking alcoholic beverage all night and that they
had a verbal argument because Lewther was being belligerent and that he woke her aunt, Cyanthia Chunn (reporting person) and yelled at her for no
reasons. Branch advised me that Lewther had drinking problem and that he had been getting help from alcoholic resource center. Branch stated that she

Cause an Effect of Domestic Violence Essay
Cause and Effect of Domestic Violence 1
Each year in the United States, an estimated two–to–four million women experience serious abuse from a male partner and thousands are killed. As
many as one–in–three adult women is abused by an intimate during her lifetime. While only 5% of all annual violence against men is by a partner, 28%
of all annual violence to women is by an intimate and 70% of intimate murder victims are women. Domestic violence is one of the major causes for
emergency room visits by women and more than half of all injuries presented by women are the result of a partner's aggression. Also, 86% of the
victims suffered at least one previous incident of abuse, 40% had previously required medical care for the abuse, and...show more content...
Absences occasioned by court appearances also jeopardize women's livelihood. They may have to move many times to avoid violence. Moving is
costly and can interfere with continuity of employment. They often lose family and friends as a result of the battering. First, the batterer isolates them
from family and friends. They become embarrassed by the abuse inflicted upon them and withdraw from support persons to avoid embarrassment.
Many battered women have to forgo financial security during divorce proceedings to avoid further abuse. One third of children who witness the
battering of their mothers demonstrate significant behavioral and/or emotional problems, including psychosomatic disorders, stuttering, anxiety, fears,
sleep disruption, excessive crying and school problems. Boys who witness their fathers' abuse their mothers are likely to inflict severe violence as
adults. Data suggest that girls who witness maternal abuse may tolerate abuse as adults more than girls who do not. These negative effects may be
diminished if the child benefits from intervention by the law and domestic violence programs. Browne, A., Ewing, C.P. (1987). When a mother is
abused, the children may feel guilty that they cannot protect her, or that they are the cause of the strife. They may themselves be abused, or neglected
while the mother attempts to deal with the trauma. The rate of child abused is 6–15 times higher in families where the mother is abused. Children get

Essay Domestic Violence Against Men
The first reaction upon hearing about the topic of battered men, for many people, is that of incredulity. Battered husbands are a topic for jokes (such as
the cartoon image of a woman chasing her husband with a rolling–pin). One researcher noted that wives were the perpetrators in 73% of the depictions
of domestic violence in newspaper comics (Saenger 1963).
Battered husbands have historically been either ignored or subjected to ridicule and abuse. In 18th–century France, a battered husband "was made to
wear an outlandish outfit and ride backwards around the village on a donkey" (Steinmetz & Lucca 1988).
Even those of us who like to consider ourselves liberated and open–minded often have a difficult time even imagining that husband...show more

More recently, in a study of spousal homicide in the period from 1976 to 1985, it was found that there was an overall ratio of 1.3:1.0 of murdered
wives to murdered husbands, and that "Black husbands were at greater risk of spouse homicide victimization than Black wives or White spouses of
either sex" (Mercy & Saltzman 1989)]
The subject of husband–battering had finally been addressed, but not to the great satisfaction of anyone. Although it had finally been shown that there
was violence being perpetrated both by wives and husbands, there was no information about relative frequency or severity, or who initiated the abuse
and who was acting in self defense. Furthermore, some researchers became concerned that the use of police or social services references in choosing
subjects to study might be biasing the results. In short, they recognized that battered husbands might be nearly invisible next to their female
counterparts.
In 1976, for instance, in a critique of the Curtis report (which found women less likely to assault, but as likely to murder, as men), Wilt & Bannon
wrote that "nonfatal violence committed by women against men is less likely to be reported to the police than is violence by men against women;
thus, women assaulters who come to the attention of the police are likely to be those who have produced a fatal result."

Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence is a problem sweeping the nation. This problem can affect anyone from anywhere but is generally acting out upon children and
adult women in abusive relationships. Domestic violence is emotionally and physically scarring for anyone involved, and as a result could take
multiple intervention meetings to begin to understand the issue, alleviate the associated problems, and to assist the victim in getting back on his or her
feet. The consequences of abuse include anxiety, depression, post–traumatic stress disorder and self–harm. Children may begin to act differently to
their usual behavior – withdrawal is very common, as is self–harming (Khan, 2012). There are two ways that people can consider interventions for
victims of...show more content...
The three most common ways to use persuasion to curb domestic violence is to educate, have nonverbal signals, and to speak out. Educating people
will teach people how to deal with anger in a passive way before turning into an abusive case. Different kinds of people can be shown and given
education on the dangers and signs of domestic violence and can use their knowledge of the issue to put a stop to it. Nonverbal signals are a good
way for people in relationships with anger problems to control that anger. If there is a nonverbal signal in place, whoever is angry can take the time
to walk away and clear their head before turning to violence during an argument. Last, speaking out is one of the best ways to put a stop to domestic
violence. Calling the authorities when he or she see or hear something can save someone's life. Take the necessary steps when something first happens
rather than later, when it gets out of hand. Domestic violence is a crime, and there are almost always victims that come out of it damaged. Persuading
people to do these things could very well curb domestic violence and help save a life. (2) Social psychology can help to end domestic violence in many
ways. Social Psychology deals with interactions between people. So, in theory, social psychology could help psychologists study the relationship from
parent to abuser, and the relationship from

This paper will outline how domestic violence can lead from a conflict to a major crisis. Domestic violence is the aggressive or violent act of abusing
a spouse, or partner within a relationship. Often time's cases of domestic violence go unreported because the abuser has threatened to hurt or kill them
if they report the incident. It's also important to remember that the rate of domestic violence is likely much higher than we know; 70% of spousal
violence is not reported to the police. ("Infographic: Family Violence in Canada," n.d.) A person may also be embarrassed to tell others that he or she
is being abused. Domestic abusers are always blaming the other person of being at fault, for their behaviour and or actions. For example, common

have to strategize and must negotiate their plans ahead so there will be no interruptions. The police were very keen in their decision making to remove
the male individual from the house, and escort him to the police station.
Interpersonal/Intrapersonal skills involved The interpersonal skills that were involved in this case were the police. The police were called, and
upon their arrival, one of the female officers had to try and calm the lady down by giving her some emotional support. The officer reinsured the lady
that what was going on was not ok, and no one deserved to get taken advantage of. By doing this the officer was aware of the individual's emotions as
well as her own. Another interpersonal skill that the police used was making sure that the person in crisis was always safe. Weighing out all the

Competence:
Michael Salter wrote this article focusing on domestic violence cases where there is a multi–perpetrator. Many domestic violence cases involve an
individual is a reoccurring offender (Salter, 2014). One ethical issue regarding multi–perpetrators in domestic violence cases is competence.
Competence is the level of skill or experience a therapist has with a certain situation ("Ethical Principle of Psychologist and Code of Conduct", 2010).
Competence also is relevant if a therapist has a personal experience or value system regarding a situation that could prevent them from being unbiased.
("Ethical Principle of Psychologist and Code of Conduct", 2010). When looking at domestic violence, this is not an uncommon offense. Domestic
violence is highly prevalent in the United States. Therefore, it would not be unlikely that a counselor has personal experience on the topic of domestic
violence. If a therapist was working with someone who is a multi–perpetrator of domestic violence and the therapist had a personal experience, would
they be competent? A therapist would have to decide if this issue is something they could put aside and still remain professional an...show more

counselors face regarding domestic violence such as confidentiality, autonomy, and competence. It is the therapist's duty to keep confidentiality, unless

the therapist's responsibility to make sure they themselves are competent as counselors to deal with domestic violence cases without being bias.
Overall, the main concern of a therapist is their client's wellbeing and safety is priority, while making sure ethics are

Domestic Violence occurs more often than humans think."More than 1 in 3 women have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an
intimate partner in their lifetime". In the past it was aloud in many counties. Now, it is handled by the law; the abuser will be punished. People never
think they could be a victim. Most people look passed the signs. It is about so much more than getting angry at someone. Our partners are more
common to hurt them and they are to scared to fight for themselves most of the time. Sadly, it can be about race, religion, age, sexualalty, and some
much more. The abuser may want a challenge or want someone easier to hurt. When victims are abused, they are damaged by domestic violence, and
they need to seek help. There is safety plans and people that will help the victims. Domestic violence is a massive problem, and it has vast effects.
First of all, Everyone needs to know what domestic violence is because it happens to more people than realized. Domestic violence is dangerous to
deal with but most do it alone. No person deserves the pain it causes. Physical pain is probably the most common thing in domestic violence. Physical
violence would be hitting, kicking, rape, choking, and dragging; any touching of the victim is thought of physical violence because it can be seen. The
bruises and the cuts start small and than become an emergency room visits. Hopefully, by then the victims realizes to leave. Than sometimes victims

Domestic Violence Is A Crisis

many think that the concern for domestic violence is over–exaggerated. Many think that there are so many other epidemics going on that should take
precedence over domestic violence. Besides worrying about these epidemics, it also can be hard to determine who really is a victim. Therefore, why

Therefore, why shouldn't we set our focus on the other devastating happenings occurring? Throughout our country, this is a common feeling among
many people. Why is domestic violence a common concern when there are these other worries? Besides knowing these other epidemics, there is
another common thought that concludes with people thinking domestic violence is over–exaggerated: being able to determine who is actually abused
and who isn't is a very difficult question. There are many factors that play a part in deciding. Pamela Biron is an author of many blogs that relate to
dealings within a family, such as domestic violence, child abuse, alcohol addiction, and more. Within one blog called "False Allegations of Domestic
Violence in Divorce Cases", she explained many statistics and facts that either a man or women had lied about that had to do with domestic violence.
One study showed, "Fathers ' organizations now estimate that up to 80% of domestic violence allegations against men are false allegations.
Furthermore, 70% of restraining orders are trivial or false" (Biron). The reasons for these false allegations are simple.
Many people lie because there are an incredible amount of sources that can help a victim, including legal support, counseling, employment services,
financial assistance, services for children, or health–related services. These services are easily attainable if you can prove to be a victim. Yet, being able

A person has never understood how you could abuse the person you love. Some people find it amusing to hit on someone that will always be by their
side. Who would take their anger out on someone so innocent that hasn't done anything wrong? It's a question no one can really answer, but hopefully
people will learn a lot from this paper. Anyone's cry for help, is not a laughing matter because they seriously could be in danger.Domestic Violence is a
very touchy subject for anyone, whether you are a victim or a witness. According to www.merriam–webster.com, domestic violence is the inflicting of
physical injury by one family or household member on another; also, a repeated or habitual pattern of such behavior. One in three women will
experience domestic violence at some point in their lifetime. According to the Violence Policy Center, 1,388 women were murdered by men they
knew in 2014, and 870 of those murders were committed by an intimate partner of the victim. (www.domesticshelters.org Abusive Red Flags
Everyone Should Know). Also, www.domesticshelters.org states, if your partner has a violent temper and quickly changes moods, pressures you to
move fast in a relationship, or pushes for immediate commitment, is continuously jealous and possessive, then he or she is most likely abusive.
Domestic violence is the most overlooked, misunderstood offense. Anyone can go through it, but many can't endure the pain it brings. According to
(www.helpguide.org), people whose partners abuse them physically and sexually are at a higher risk of being seriously injured or killed. Most
people wonder why doesn't the victim leave the relationship, well it is not that easy. "The question, 'Why does she stay?' is code for some people for,
it's her fault for staying,' as if domestic violence victims intentionally choose to fall in love with men intent upon destroying us" –Leslie Morgan Steiner
(www.azquotes.com). An abuser will do anything and everything he or she can to make you feel bad about yourself or defective in some way
(www.helpguide.org). The abuser may use intimidation tactics such as make threatening looks or gestures, smashing things in front of you, destroying
property, hurting your pets, or putting their weapons on

Silenced Cry: Domestic Marital Abuse against Women
In the United States, there are about ten people who die from domestic violence every single day. The U.N identifies October as National Domestic
Violence Awareness Month. What happens when 'Home' is not the safest place to be? Domestic abuse occurs across the world, in various cultures and
affects society, irrespective of their economic status. Behaviors that are adopted by a person to control their partner in a relationship refers to domestic
violence. Domestic violence against women particularly marital abuse in United States compared with India is what this paper is going to be based
on in order to obtain notions from various perspectives. One must have thought of at least 3 women you know who have been abused. So would this
be considered a global epidemic? Maybe yes, maybe no. Violence by a partner is common in the Indian society that women end up committing suicide
(Mullender et al., 2000). The causes, types of domestic violence, the abuser and the after effects of such behavior will be analyzed with substantial
evidence.

Domestic Violence : An Individual Crisis
Domestic violence is not merely an individual crisis, but a social crisis. "Domestic violence is a burden on numerous sectors of the social system and
quietly, yet dramatically, affects the development of a nation. Batterers cost nations fortunes in terms of law enforcement, health care, lost labor and
general progress in development. These costs do not only affect the present generation; what begins as an assault by one person on another, reverberates
through the family and the community into the future" (Kaur, R., &Garg, S, 2008, p.73). Women who were being harmed have begun to say speak
out. "The domestic violence movement understands that the institutions of our culture reinforces the idea that violence within intimate relationships is
acceptable and, at the same time, blame women for being victims of domestic violence" (History of Domestic Violence, n.d.). "Violence against women
includes all verbal, physical, and sexual assaults which violate a woman's physical body, sense of self and sense of trust, regardless of age, race,
ethnicity, or country" (Alhabib, Nur, & Jones, 2009).
Spousal abuse became a public issue in the 1970's allowing the Battered Women's Movement to become a nationwide movement because of other social
movements that had already been established; Women's Liberation, Women's Health, and Anti

Opening/Attention:
Healthy relationships are what everyone asks for. Weather it's a romantic relationship, a friendship, or even a family relationship. Unfortunately,
unhealthy relationships are more common than they should be, and so is domestic violence. We hear about domesticviolence all the time, but we only
hear about physical violence, when there is much more than that. Domestic Violence is divided in three sections:physical abuse, mental abuse, and
sexual abuse. All three sections can affect the victim mentally, even if it wasn't direct mental abuse.

Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence
ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE:
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a
great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in
a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out. We know it's happening, and even hear or see the
events. But who's taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just
a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle,
and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make
a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you to do the same.
I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A
few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just
brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she
still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem
happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under
the case of domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this
day, I still can't even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and
act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

Research Paper On Domestic Violence

  • 1. Research Paper On Domestic Violence The topic I chose to do my research paper is Domestic Violence. This is an important social problem today as domestic violence can affect everyone regardless of age, gender, marital status, economic status, race, religion, or geographical location. It affects society as a whole. There is no indication to predict who will be the aggressor in a case of domestic violence, exposure is not always indicative of future behavior. There are warning signs, but no outward signs in appearance. The role of the family is to get the abuser help. This may incorporate the entire family. The idea that domesticviolence is something for the family of victims (the entire family is a victim, mentally and physically) to be ashamed of is simply not true. The feeling Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Domestic Violence Outline I.Some important things you need to know about domestic violence? A.Domestic violence is a learned behavior, which is usually witnessed in the abusers home or learned through friends and pop culture. 1.Abusers seek to gain or maintain control by exerting their power over the victim. Abusers believe their desires are more important so they use manipulation to make the victim less valuable because of their own insecurity. 2.Abuse is a choice abusers can control their behavior. 3.Domestic violence can affect any social or economic group. 4.Over a million women are victims to domestic violence around the world. • 3. What is Domestic Violence? Essays Domestic Violence Domestic violence is a pattern of physical and mental abuse and controlling behavior in a relationship and can happen to anyone, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender; this type of abuse can have both short and long term affects and can cause physical, mental, and emotional pain. While abuse can happen to anyone, women are by far the most frequent victims and men are the most frequent abusers. The U.S. department of justice estimates that 95 percent of the assaults on partners or spouses is committed by men against women (Toby). Even though men normally abuse women, there are cases where men are victimized by their partners. Domestic violence is a major cause of injury to women between the...show more content... The abuser will find ways to make the victim feel that anything that goes wrong in the relationship is their fault. Soon after, if the controlling behavior exceeds the abuser will no longer trust the victim and they will soon get suspicious even if the victim did not do anything; The abuser might get angry and not satisfied with the victim's answer. The abuser will get increasingly frustrated and most likely will get physical at this point. The formation of a fantasy bond will encourages the attitude that one person can define or victimize the victim in some way. It also supports the idea that one partner has more control over the other. Therefore, the victim will most likely feel mistreated, and extremely angry towards the partner. There are two emotional dynamics that contribute greatly to domestic violence. One involves the destructive thought process that the abuser experiences both towards themselves and their partner, thoughts like one is not a man if they do not control their partner or maybe one thinking that their partner is making a fool out of them; Of The expectation that men should be strong, masculine, and more powerful than women can be very destructive to a man at risk of becoming violent. The shame triggered by the idea that they are appearing weak or unmanly can trigger some men to become enraged or to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Domestic Violence Thesis Today. There is more help for finding help for domestic violence victims than there ever has been in the past. Even though it is better than it was, it is still an ongoing problem for women to this day. In the United States, and average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. Women who are be to get the help for domestic violence can get their freedom and feel a sense of peace if the accused gets any consequences for what they did. Women who find help for domestic violence is for there freedom and reach of peace. Many women around the world experience violence on a daily from their significant other. These women become trapped in an abusive relationship and struggle to find there way out. Domestic violence against...show more content... It was not so known of either. Along with that, women in the 1600's "in Europe knew how to hide and escape their batterers." This topic is now a bigger discussion to the community than it has been before. There are many more known stories of famous people and other daily life people who go through these situations on a daily basis. Media is also a big reason we now a days see what's going on about it, unlike when there wasn't any media. Many places and people would be opening to help people who struggle with abusing relationships even before it was noticed though media. Awareness has made is possible for there to even be such a thing as shelters for women who have been beaten and neglected. Today, in the year 2017, domestic violence is on a strong start to making more changes and more awareness against abuse. Women and many other people have come together to put in there word and to make people realize what an important issue it is and it could happen to anybody. Thanks to that, the public has opened up their eyes to this and started making big improvements for a better Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Upon arrival, I spoke to Tanya Branch (suspect) who stated that Jason Lewther (victim) was bothering everyone in the house. Branch stated that Lewther and Branch are married but they were in the process of getting divorce. Branch also stated that Lewther had been drinking alcoholic beverage all night and that they had a verbal argument because Lewther was being belligerent and that he woke her aunt, Cyanthia Chunn (reporting person) and yelled at her for no reasons. Branch advised me that Lewther had drinking problem and that he had been getting help from alcoholic resource center. Branch stated that she just wanted Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Cause an Effect of Domestic Violence Essay Cause and Effect of Domestic Violence 1 Each year in the United States, an estimated two–to–four million women experience serious abuse from a male partner and thousands are killed. As many as one–in–three adult women is abused by an intimate during her lifetime. While only 5% of all annual violence against men is by a partner, 28% of all annual violence to women is by an intimate and 70% of intimate murder victims are women. Domestic violence is one of the major causes for emergency room visits by women and more than half of all injuries presented by women are the result of a partner's aggression. Also, 86% of the victims suffered at least one previous incident of abuse, 40% had previously required medical care for the abuse, and...show more content... Absences occasioned by court appearances also jeopardize women's livelihood. They may have to move many times to avoid violence. Moving is costly and can interfere with continuity of employment. They often lose family and friends as a result of the battering. First, the batterer isolates them from family and friends. They become embarrassed by the abuse inflicted upon them and withdraw from support persons to avoid embarrassment. Many battered women have to forgo financial security during divorce proceedings to avoid further abuse. One third of children who witness the battering of their mothers demonstrate significant behavioral and/or emotional problems, including psychosomatic disorders, stuttering, anxiety, fears, sleep disruption, excessive crying and school problems. Boys who witness their fathers' abuse their mothers are likely to inflict severe violence as adults. Data suggest that girls who witness maternal abuse may tolerate abuse as adults more than girls who do not. These negative effects may be diminished if the child benefits from intervention by the law and domestic violence programs. Browne, A., Ewing, C.P. (1987). When a mother is abused, the children may feel guilty that they cannot protect her, or that they are the cause of the strife. They may themselves be abused, or neglected while the mother attempts to deal with the trauma. The rate of child abused is 6–15 times higher in families where the mother is abused. • 7. Essay Domestic Violence Against Men The first reaction upon hearing about the topic of battered men, for many people, is that of incredulity. Battered husbands are a topic for jokes (such as the cartoon image of a woman chasing her husband with a rolling–pin). One researcher noted that wives were the perpetrators in 73% of the depictions of domestic violence in newspaper comics (Saenger 1963). Battered husbands have historically been either ignored or subjected to ridicule and abuse. In 18th–century France, a battered husband "was made to wear an outlandish outfit and ride backwards around the village on a donkey" (Steinmetz & Lucca 1988). Even those of us who like to consider ourselves liberated and open–minded often have a difficult time even imagining that husband...show more content... More recently, in a study of spousal homicide in the period from 1976 to 1985, it was found that there was an overall ratio of 1.3:1.0 of murdered wives to murdered husbands, and that "Black husbands were at greater risk of spouse homicide victimization than Black wives or White spouses of either sex" (Mercy & Saltzman 1989)] The subject of husband–battering had finally been addressed, but not to the great satisfaction of anyone. Although it had finally been shown that there was violence being perpetrated both by wives and husbands, there was no information about relative frequency or severity, or who initiated the abuse and who was acting in self defense. Furthermore, some researchers became concerned that the use of police or social services references in choosing subjects to study might be biasing the results. In short, they recognized that battered husbands might be nearly invisible next to their female counterparts. In 1976, for instance, in a critique of the Curtis report (which found women less likely to assault, but as likely to murder, as men), Wilt & Bannon wrote that "nonfatal violence committed by women against men is less likely to be reported to the police than is violence by men against women; thus, women assaulters who come to the attention of the police are likely to be those who have produced a fatal result." Steinmetz uncovers some suprises In 1977, Suzanne Steinmetz released results from

  • 9. Domestic Violence Domestic Violence is a problem sweeping the nation. This problem can affect anyone from anywhere but is generally acting out upon children and adult women in abusive relationships. Domestic violence is emotionally and physically scarring for anyone involved, and as a result could take multiple intervention meetings to begin to understand the issue, alleviate the associated problems, and to assist the victim in getting back on his or her feet. The consequences of abuse include anxiety, depression, post–traumatic stress disorder and self–harm. Children may begin to act differently to their usual behavior – withdrawal is very common, as is self–harming (Khan, 2012). There are two ways that people can consider interventions for victims of...show more content... The three most common ways to use persuasion to curb domestic violence is to educate, have nonverbal signals, and to speak out. Educating people will teach people how to deal with anger in a passive way before turning into an abusive case. Different kinds of people can be shown and given education on the dangers and signs of domestic violence and can use their knowledge of the issue to put a stop to it. Nonverbal signals are a good way for people in relationships with anger problems to control that anger. If there is a nonverbal signal in place, whoever is angry can take the time to walk away and clear their head before turning to violence during an argument. Last, speaking out is one of the best ways to put a stop to domestic violence. Calling the authorities when he or she see or hear something can save someone's life. Take the necessary steps when something first happens rather than later, when it gets out of hand. Domestic violence is a crime, and there are almost always victims that come out of it damaged. Persuading people to do these things could very well curb domestic violence and help save a life. (2) Social psychology can help to end domestic violence in many ways. Social Psychology deals with interactions between people. So, in theory, social psychology could help psychologists study the relationship from parent to abuser, and the relationship from Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Domestic Violence Outline This paper will outline how domestic violence can lead from a conflict to a major crisis. Domestic violence is the aggressive or violent act of abusing a spouse, or partner within a relationship. Often time's cases of domestic violence go unreported because the abuser has threatened to hurt or kill them if they report the incident. It's also important to remember that the rate of domestic violence is likely much higher than we know; 70% of spousal violence is not reported to the police. ("Infographic: Family Violence in Canada," n.d.) A person may also be embarrassed to tell others that he or she is being abused. Domestic abusers are always blaming the other person of being at fault, for their behaviour and or actions. For example, common ...show more content... The police made sure that when they arrived the person in crisis was removed from the house where she resided, and made sure she stayed at our house until their arrival. Police always have to strategize and must negotiate their plans ahead so there will be no interruptions. The police were very keen in their decision making to remove the male individual from the house, and escort him to the police station. Interpersonal/Intrapersonal skills involved The interpersonal skills that were involved in this case were the police. The police were called, and upon their arrival, one of the female officers had to try and calm the lady down by giving her some emotional support. The officer reinsured the lady that what was going on was not ok, and no one deserved to get taken advantage of. By doing this the officer was aware of the individual's emotions as well as her own. Another interpersonal skill that the police used was making sure that the person in crisis was always safe. • 11. Domestic Violence Summary Competence: Michael Salter wrote this article focusing on domestic violence cases where there is a multi–perpetrator. Many domestic violence cases involve an individual is a reoccurring offender (Salter, 2014). Domestic violence is highly prevalent in the United States. Therefore, it would not be unlikely that a counselor has personal experience on the topic of domestic violence. If a therapist was working with someone who is a multi–perpetrator of domestic violence and the therapist had a personal experience, would they be competent? A therapist would have to decide if this issue is something they could put aside and still remain professional an...show more content... Many therapists face ethical decisions regarding clients who are either victims or abusers in domestic violence cases. There are many ethical issues counselors face regarding domestic violence such as confidentiality, autonomy, and competence. It is the therapist's duty to keep confidentiality, unless there in imminent harm threatened. It is also the therapist's obligation to make sure the client remains autonomous in all decision making. While it is the therapist's responsibility to make sure they themselves are competent as counselors to deal with domestic violence cases without being bias. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence Domestic Violence occurs more often than humans think."More than 1 in 3 women have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime". In the past it was aloud in many counties. Now, it is handled by the law; the abuser will be punished. People never think they could be a victim. Most people look passed the signs. It is about so much more than getting angry at someone. Our partners are more common to hurt them and they are to scared to fight for themselves most of the time. Sadly, it can be about race, religion, age, sexualalty, and some much more. The abuser may want a challenge or want someone easier to hurt. When victims are abused, they are damaged by domestic violence, and they need to seek help. There is safety plans and people that will help the victims. Domestic violence is a massive problem, and it has vast effects. First of all, Everyone needs to know what domestic violence is because it happens to more people than realized. Domestic violence is dangerous to deal with but most do it alone. No person deserves the pain it causes. Physical pain is probably the most common thing in domestic violence. Physical violence would be hitting, kicking, rape, choking, and dragging; any touching of the victim is thought of physical violence because it can be seen. The bruises and the cuts start small and than become an emergency room visits. Hopefully, by then the victims realizes to leave. Than sometimes victims can't leave like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Domestic Violence Is A Crisis Every day most of us go about with our eyes closed towards the crisis of domestic violence. A study done showed that every nine seconds a women is beaten or assaulted ("Statistics"). The time that it has taken you to read to this point is the time it has taken for a women to be hit by this crisis. Yet, so many think that the concern for domestic violence is over–exaggerated. Many think that there are so many other epidemics going on that should take precedence over domestic violence. Besides worrying about these epidemics, it also can be hard to determine who really is a victim. Therefore, why should we spend time on this, when we could be directing more attention to the other occurrences? However, domestic violence is starting to become ...show more content... Therefore, why shouldn't we set our focus on the other devastating happenings occurring? Throughout our country, this is a common feeling among many people. Why is domestic violence a common concern when there are these other worries? Within one blog called "False Allegations of Domestic Violence in Divorce Cases", she explained many statistics and facts that either a man or women had lied about that had to do with domestic violence. One study showed, "Fathers ' organizations now estimate that up to 80% of domestic violence allegations against men are false allegations. Furthermore, 70% of restraining orders are trivial or false" (Biron). The reasons for these false allegations are simple. Many people lie because there are an incredible amount of sources that can help a victim, including legal support, counseling, employment services, financial assistance, services for children, or health–related services. These services are easily attainable if you can prove to be a victim. Yet, being able Get more content on HelpWriting.net

"Domestic violence is a burden on numerous sectors of the social system and quietly, yet dramatically, affects the development of a nation. Batterers cost nations fortunes in terms of law enforcement, health care, lost labor and general progress in development. These costs do not only affect the present generation; what begins as an assault by one person on another, reverberates through the family and the community into the future" (Kaur, R., &Garg, S, 2008, p.73). Women who were being harmed have begun to say speak out. "The domestic violence movement understands that the institutions of our culture reinforces the idea that violence within intimate relationships is acceptable and, at the same time, blame women for being victims of domestic violence" (History of Domestic Violence, n.d.). • 19. Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out. We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action? I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle, and a step to save our nation. And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you to do the same. I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse. Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live Get more content on HelpWriting.net
