Critical Opinion On Critical Thinking
In our daily lives, we face various challenges that require solutions. Most of the time we are able to solve these problems with minimum effort, at
other times, however, the problems may be more complex and solutions to them may not be readily available. This will present us with various
challenges and may require us to employ critical thinking. Critical thinking is an important skill burden of responsibility of ensuring the problems of
a contemporary society are understood and well interpreted and a solution presented. As long as he or she resides in a contemporary society, he or she,
must, therefore, ensure that he or she meets this responsibility. People who engage in critical thinking tend to provide good evidence and reasoning for
the opinions they hold. Critical thinking also enables people to provide reasons for their actions. This research paper presents a critical analysis of the
importance or the role that critical thinkers play in dealing with societal issues related to family relations and dynamics. Theses issues include, but are
not limited to, teen violence, physical abuse, depression, and suicide. The paper tries to define critical thinking and family and then it goes ahead to
illustrate how critical thinking can help to solve these problems that surround family relations and dynamics. According to David hunter, although
many definitions for critical thinking exist, Robert Ennis' definition of critical thinking as a reasonable, reflective thinking

Paper On Critical Thinking
Legendary scientist Albert Einstein once said, "we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." This quote
alludes to the reality that we must change our thought processes and think critically to solve problems. Critical thinking is important in different facets
of life. One facet of life in which critical thinking can guide success is our career. Specifically, in the field ofPsychology, many careers revolve around
research. In order to be a successful researcher, you must have critical thinking skills. Critical think allows for deeper development of hypotheses, better
evaluation of evidence, and an ability to generate new ideas.
In order to research a topic, a hypothesis must be created. A hypothesis allows for prior evidence and assumptions to be used to create a testable idea
about what will result from a particular study. However, it is important to think critically in order to determine what a hypothesis should be. It is
necessary to look back at old studies to understand any possible issues that led to a particular result and avoid making that mistake. When one thinks
critically, they can identify important components to consider when creating a well–rounded and logical hypothesis....show more content...
Understanding flaws in past research, acknowledging contrasting findings, and opening up to criticism are just some of the ways critical thinking can
be utilized. By increasing the number of uses for critical thinking, researchers can become more creative while remaining systematic in producing
hypotheses for future directions. Psychology is an ever–growing field with many questions still unanswered. Knowing what questions to ask based on
critical thought will provide the basis for new research that will help answer such questions. With this ability research questions and studies can
progressively become more solid and successful over

Reflective Essay On Critical Thinking
Questioning and challenging my assumptions and attitudes about critical thinking is a new process for me, but I do appreciate that to develop and
enhance my assumptions and other mindsets it is an important undertaking. Looking at what we hold to be true is an endeavor well trenched into us
as we evolved. "The real value of critical thinking is that it's been at the root of all human progress" (Rabinowitz, 2015).
Being challenged on my thinking is difficult, but once I got through the difficulty I realized it was for my betterment as a student and as a teacher. My
prior experience as an undergraduate in early childhood education with Bloom's focused mainly on the cognitive domain and thus I cannot recall the
affective or psychomotor domains being addressed. However, as I began to understand that "the committee identified three domains of educational
activities or learning" (Bloom, 1956 as cited by Clark, 2015), I realized that I did have assumptions and that they were being challenged. First of all, I
did assume that Bloom's focus on cognitive development devalues the importance of other domains and secondly that Bloom's Taxonomy is only used
by educators in K–12 and college. Interestingly, both have since been challenged and changed through my readings as "it is important to note that the
most common usage of Bloom's Taxonomy focuses on cognitive learning skills rather than psychomotor or affective skills, two domains that are
crucial to the success of health

Essay about Assessment of Critical Thinking
Assessment of learning can be a meaningful tool for teachers and students during a course to provide feedback to the student about the type and
quality of work that is being completed in the course and for the instructor to find areas where the student is having difficulties and so additional
materials can be provided or the course modified. The aim of this paper is to define assessment and critical thinking skills, and then review a State
University course and suggest different assessments that could be used to demonstrate learning. Theoretical Foundations of Nursing will be the course

Projects that are then shared with other students provide a method of further learning by collaboration. "Assessment strategies should be designed so
that students apply the course material to their own lives, motivating them to think through and analyze the content for themselves" (Bassendowski &
Salgado, 2005). The authors go on to encourage instructors to develop new assessment strategies, which utilize technology available today, rather than
to use papers which can easily be plagiarized from the ease of internet sources (Bassendowski & Salgado, 2005, p. 9). Theoretical Foundations of
Nursing– N505–10A utilized the following assessments; weekly assignments, final project, and class participation. Class participation was assessed by
online discussion of questions which were posted by the instructor. Guidelines for discussion were posted in the syllabus which included general rules
for discussion, grading criteria for discussion which included; quantity of participation, frequency of participation, quality of information, critical
thinking and netiquette. Discussion questions were posted at the beginning of the course for all eight weeks, which allowed students time for research
and reflection before posting deadlines. Discussion questions required applying theoretical models to current or past nursing practice and experiences.
This provided application to personal experience for each student and encouraged collaborative learning, as students also

2.3 Thinking in Education Education, perhaps the most basic need for people, is the process that provides the development of human. According to
Meyer (1976) the aim of education is to nurture the individual, to help the to realize the full potential that already exists inside him or her. There has
always been a strand of educational thought that held that the strengthening of the child's thinking should be the chief business of the schools and not
just an incidental outcome – if it happened at all ( Lipman, 2003 ). Qualified education should show the way to students about what and how to learn.
While students evaluate what they learned and their learning methods, they manifest their critical thinking abilities (Emir, 2009). As Cotton
indicates(1991) : "If students are to function successfully in a highly technical society,Then they must be equipped with lifelong learning and thinking
skills necessary to acquire and process information in an ever changing world". One of the aims of education should be developing students' thinking
skills as well as motor skills, which is basic goal of contemporary approaches in education. According to Elder & Paul (2008) students are not passive
but active while they are realizing critical thinking. 2.4 Critical Thinking When the term of 'Critical Thinking' is searched, it is understood that there
are meanings of it which are suggested in the frame of

Essay on What is Critical Thinking?
What is Critical Thinking? Is the process of conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and /or evaluating information gathered by
observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or communication, as a guide to belief and action (Scriven & Paul, n.d.). When one applies critical
thinking more ideas are develop, fewer mistakes are made and better decisions are reached. When people instead of using critical thinking act on
beliefs or without giving it a second thought, the end results are poor decisions and as a result have a disaster at hand. People don't always use critical

Many times our students have unexpected behaviors, such as refuse to follow directions, have disrupt outburst, hostile, emotional problems, and
even become physical towards others or themselves. Special education students do not respond to traditional discipline methods. With children
having disabilities like ADHD, or mental health problems if not handled appropriately it the bad behavior could escalate and become difficult to
stop. What role does critical thinking have in my analytical and intuitive decision making while I am work? It is a tool used to help solve problems,
if my thinking is flawed then decisions are skewed and the problem is not solved, making poor decisions could create more problems could result in
putting myself or others in danger. Using critical thinking increases the probability of solving the problem through better choices and decisions. Every
day as an instructional aide I use my critical thinking skills when deciding whether an impending conflict will escalate to violent behavior, deciding on

Essay on Critical Thinking and Decision Making
The process of critical thinking requires you to ask more questions of both others and of yourself before a decision or determination is made. In
order to successfully evaluate data in a critical manner, you must have a system in place to assess information as it is presented. In any situation
whether you are having a conversation, observing others, or material you have read, you must be ready to probe deeper and ask the right question at
the right time. Browne, Keely, McCall and Kaplan, refers to critical thinking as a "Systematic evaluation of arguments based on explicit rational criteria
(1998, p.IX)." The authors go on to state that "critical thinking refers to the following: awareness of a set of interrelated critical questions,...show more

The use of these tools will enable management in obtaining a level of comfort with making the tough choices. The relationship between critical
thinking and decision making is inseparable. The purpose of utilizing critical thinking skills is to get to the very core of an issue, topic or problem,
and making a decision on the information. Therefore, there is little purpose to one without the other. Why would anyone become a critical thinker if
they were not going to follow it up with a decision on the data as it is presented? Similarly, any decisions made without the benefit of any relevant
information will end up being a decision made in haste. It is best to utilize every tool at your disposal to make an informed decision. I agree with the
authors on the definition and use of critical thinking and decision making skills. The benefits of being a critical thinker are enormous, they include
being able to make effective decisions and learning to ask the important show–stopping questions. By using these skills you will be able to probe
deeper and get to the heart of the issue. As stated in an earlier paper, the use of critical thinking when making crucial business decisions quite simply
makes good business sense. Critical thinking skills are crucial in today's fast paced business world. Once these skills become

Misconceptions Of Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is one of the most important traits that a person can have in their day to day lives. It involves the person to have the ability to
ascertain claims and make judgments based on well–support evidence or logic rather than anecdote or emotion. There are 8 protocols that critical
thinkers' exhibit in their day to day lives in order to become better at their craft. 1. Ask question 2. Define your terms 3. Examine the evidence 4.
Analyze assumptions and associated bias 5. Avoid emotional reasoning 6. Don't oversimplify 7. Consider other interpretations or viewpoints 8. Tolerate

I have already gone through the hurdle in my life where beliefs I have had in my whole life have been a fabrication. I learned to overcome the
anger a long time ago. Even with the uncertainly of some beliefs that may be true, false, or in the middle, or looking at your opposing side and
calmly analyzing their viewpoint; it isn't that difficult for me to do anymore. The hardest thing someone will find is looking at the opposing side
of their argument. The human brain likes to simplify processes and this is a very easy example of what the brain does. Since they are against your
viewpoint, your brain would assign them as an enemy. Things are not as black and white as that and viewing perspectives who oppose you can
either teach you something new or reinforce your standing. Hopefully not in the way where you just belittle them as x category, but see why they
think and act the way they do. Much of what critical thinking does is really subjective on what would be the easiest but I would say that for me, it
would be ask questions. Now this may also be the hardest step for most people as well. But, if you have toned you're ability to critically think, this
step is asking the why and how something works. It is a simple question or premise to the argument or object at hand. Critical thinking is an important
tool in the arsenal of an individual but it requires commitment to learn how to use

Developing Critical Thinking Essay
A person is not born as a good critical thinker. The first thing that is needed is a level of maturity having the ability to conceptualize and understand the
world (Boss, 2010). The skills that are associated with a person that has good critical thinking are: Analytical Skills: recognize and evaluate arguments
to filter through to the truth. Effective Communication: ability to listen, speak, and write effectively. Research Skills: ability to gather, evaluate, and
create supporting evidence. (Boss, 2010) In teaching critical thinking, Dr. Chan and Dr. Lau (n.d.) explain good critical thinking, "as the foundation of

A person will be prejudiced to certain opinions without exploring all sides of an issue. People create barriers that stop the gathering of information and
analyzing that are key to being a critical thinker. A few of the resistances that foster narrow–mindedness are denial, the refusal to believe something
despite overwhelming evidence, avoidance, not seeking out opposing views but staying with only those that agree with your position on an issue,
and ignorance, not seeking out information that is available(Boss, 2010). The two resistances that I have used are avoidance and conformity. These
two go hand in hand with me that I will often seek out those that agree with my thoughts and avoid those that do not see things the way I do. At
times, I will be with those that I do not agree with and those times instead of having a conversation, I will go with conformity to fit in at those times.
Adjusting my thinking to overcome these will first require me to seek out and listen to both sides of the issues. Having the knowledge that is not
based on biased opinions will help make a foundation that will increase my confidence in what I think and allow me to speak intelligently on the issue.
The concept of a person that can understand and control their emotions is said to be emotional intelligent. From Boss (2010) emotional intelligence is
"the ability to perceive accurately, appraise and express emotion." Influences to our

Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and

Knowledge must have background facts to be considered true and mathematics must use reason to justify their formulas or methods. For example,
memorizing the area under a bell curve is very different from understanding how it is derived. Proofs are useful when proving mathematical concepts
although they are not concrete and harder to understand. Creative aspects must be considered when trying to derive a difficult proof. Creative problem
solving involving mathematics can use sense perception as a way of knowing. In these problems, real life situations allow for the organization of ideas
and require that the student's attention be focused on the actual understanding of the concepts rather than the usual memorization of facts from
concrete problems. For example, calculating the replanting of trees in a forest would depend on the circumstances surrounding the problems and
factors would be dependant on the situation. Is creating a personal solution to the problems more effective than searching for existing solutions? In
regards to mathematics, if a solution is known to exist using methods already established, there is no need to search for additional or new solutions.
There are always exceptions to any case and new knowledge could form from a completely new and personal solution. This could create new
knowledge using creative thinking and could also create a more efficient solution to the one previously used. Applied mathematics uses both

Abstract
Critical thinking includes the component skills of analyzing arguments, making inferences using inductive or deductive reasoning, judging or
evaluating, and making decisions or solving problems when evaluating academic content. Background knowledge is a necessary but not a sufficient
condition for enabling critical thought within a given subject. Critical thinking involves both cognitive skills and dispositions. These dispositions,
which can be seen as attitudes or habits of mind, include open– and fair–mindedness, inquisitiveness, flexibility, a propensity to seek reason, a desire to
be well–informed, and a respect for and willingness to entertain diverse viewpoints. There are both general– and domain–specific aspects of...show

The concepts and principles of critical thinking can be applied to any context or case but only by reflecting upon the nature of that application. Critical
thinking forms, therefore, a system of related, and overlapping, modes of thought such as anthropological thinking, sociological thinking, historical
thinking, political thinking, psychological thinking, philosophical thinking, mathematical thinking, chemical thinking, biological thinking, ecological
thinking, legal thinking, ethical thinking, musical thinking, thinking like a painter, sculptor, engineer, business person, etc. In other words, though
critical thinking principles are universal, their application to disciplines requires a process of reflective contextualization.
Critical thinking is considered important in the academic fields because it enables one to analyze, evaluate, explain, and restructure their thinking,
thereby decreasing the risk of adopting, acting on, or thinking with, a false belief. However, even with knowledge of the methods of logical inquiry and
reasoning, mistakes can happen due to a thinker's inability to apply the methods or because of character traits such as egocentrism. Critical thinking
includes identification of prejudice, bias, propaganda, self–deception, distortion, misinformation, etc. Given research in cognitive psychology, some
educators believe that schools should focus on teaching their students critical thinking skills and

personal barriers to critical thinking includes; enculturation, self concept, ego defense, rationalization, self serving biases, and emotional
influences (Kirby and Goodpaster, 2007). Critical thinking is defined as, "the process of gathering information, analyzing it in different ways, and
evaluating it for the purposes of gaining understanding, solving a problem, or making a decision" (Carter, Bishop, and Kravits, 2007). Critical

need for critical thinkers. It is important for both the top management down the line. Critical thinking must be taught and built in to the way the
company or organization performs its business. In fact, companies and organizations must embrace the concept of critical thinking. Critical thinking
can lead to success story after success story. This type of impact gives any company or organization credibility. According to Supon, one of the
fundamental purposes of teaching critical thinking is to enhance the abilities of students to become critical thinkers. Corporate leaders, educational
researchers, employers, and parents have continually pushed teachers to assist their students in the development of critical thinking ability. Critical
thinking is a skill that ?involved not only knowledge of content by also concept formation and analysis, reasoning and drawing conclusions, recognizing
and avoiding contradiction, and other essential cognitive activities? (Supon, 1998). There are proposed reasons for the emphasis that is currently on
critical thinking. Many factors can be related to this emphasis. They include the societal factors of economic shifts

Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is defined as "the systematic evaluation or formulation of beliefs or statements, by rational standards" (Vaughn 4). Many people
exercise critical thinking in everyday situations. The act of thinking critically involves many steps starting from valuable reasoning and logic along
with evidence and investigation. An abundance of people apply critical thinking in their field or profession every single day. Thinking critically is one
of the most important conditions in a workplace. The skills and practices using critical thinking can be beneficial: analyzing situations, having superb
reasoning, evaluating problems, and satisfying problem solving and decision making. The profession that I want to potentially pursue is PA. A...show

Fallacies are divided into two main categories: irrelevant premises and unacceptable premises. A fallacy that falls under the irrelevant premises is
appeal to the person. Appeal to the person is rejecting the claim not because of the claim itself, but because of the person who makes the claim. In
the workplace, someone could suggest a pleasing idea, but because of the individual it came from, an idea that could have been exertive is now
useless. Another fallacy is appeal to popularity, arguing that a claim must be true solely because a significant number of people believe it.
Because the majority says something, does not mean that it is always right. What an individual believe is extraneous. Something could happen at
work where there is a counterfactual mistake, but because merely everyone believes it, it can produce many mistakes. Appeal to tradition is
another fallacy that an individual can examine while in a work setting. Many people believe only what is connected to their traditions and beliefs.
This is fallacious because everyone has a different belief and while in a work setting, you are going to work with people who have very different
belief systems. While applying a person's guilt, anger, resentment, pity, etc. to get what you want, you are appealing to emotion. A person is
persuading someone by provoking his or her feelings rather than giving reason. In the workplace, a person who is in need of a job most likely will
perform this fallacy because they are in

Essay about Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking Application Critical thinking is the art of thinking in a manner that is critical. This means that prior to making a decision one
must be informed about possible repercussions and/or outcomes, this is particularly true in the case of both employers and an employees. A
decision maker must be willing to "choose how to respond to opportunities and problems on the basis of a simplified and approximate account of the
situation" (George & Jones, 2005, pg 475), while a stakeholder (in this case an employee) must be willing and able to complete any task that is put
before him or her. The stakeholder must also make an informed decision based on their personal code of ethics. Based on that belief it becomes evident

We use reCon in a three tiered, interconnected manner: maintaing an in–depth contact index, for keeping track of what is going on in properties in our
market, and as an invoice and voucher system. Each of these is referenced and used by all members of the organization, to an extent. CBRE has
determined that due to possible turnover in employees all contact information is the property of CBRE. This has been met with a lot of trepidation as
brokers rely on their contacts for their paychecks. Importance & Benefit At CBRE we have found that many of the brokers who continually call into the
office to request phone numbers from the administrative staff have not been maintaining their contacts within the reCon system, instead maintaining
them in personal rolodex within their offices. This means that busy admin staff must rummage through brokers personal spaces in order to give the
information to brokers. It is understandable why the contacts index is infrequently updated, as brokers work on a commission basis and need to
maintain the integrity of their proprietary relationships with Owners and Tenants. Due to reCon's need to have contact information for each lease, sale
or consultation in the system in order for us to be paid on a deal, Brokers are finding

Critical Opinion On Critical Thinking

  • 1. Critical Opinion On Critical Thinking In our daily lives, we face various challenges that require solutions. Most of the time we are able to solve these problems with minimum effort, at other times, however, the problems may be more complex and solutions to them may not be readily available. This will present us with various challenges and may require us to employ critical thinking. Critical thinking is an important skill burden of responsibility of ensuring the problems of a contemporary society are understood and well interpreted and a solution presented. As long as he or she resides in a contemporary society, he or she, must, therefore, ensure that he or she meets this responsibility. People who engage in critical thinking tend to provide good evidence and reasoning for the opinions they hold. Critical thinking also enables people to provide reasons for their actions. This research paper presents a critical analysis of the importance or the role that critical thinkers play in dealing with societal issues related to family relations and dynamics. Theses issues include, but are not limited to, teen violence, physical abuse, depression, and suicide. The paper tries to define critical thinking and family and then it goes ahead to illustrate how critical thinking can help to solve these problems that surround family relations and dynamics. According to David hunter, although many definitions for critical thinking exist, Robert Ennis' definition of critical thinking as a reasonable, reflective thinking Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Paper On Critical Thinking Legendary scientist Albert Einstein once said, "we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." This quote alludes to the reality that we must change our thought processes and think critically to solve problems. Critical thinking is important in different facets of life. One facet of life in which critical thinking can guide success is our career. Specifically, in the field ofPsychology, many careers revolve around research. In order to be a successful researcher, you must have critical thinking skills. Critical think allows for deeper development of hypotheses, better evaluation of evidence, and an ability to generate new ideas. In order to research a topic, a hypothesis must be created. A hypothesis allows for prior evidence and assumptions to be used to create a testable idea about what will result from a particular study. However, it is important to think critically in order to determine what a hypothesis should be. It is necessary to look back at old studies to understand any possible issues that led to a particular result and avoid making that mistake. When one thinks critically, they can identify important components to consider when creating a well–rounded and logical hypothesis....show more content... Understanding flaws in past research, acknowledging contrasting findings, and opening up to criticism are just some of the ways critical thinking can be utilized. By increasing the number of uses for critical thinking, researchers can become more creative while remaining systematic in producing hypotheses for future directions. Psychology is an ever–growing field with many questions still unanswered. Knowing what questions to ask based on critical thought will provide the basis for new research that will help answer such questions. With this ability research questions and studies can progressively become more solid and successful over Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflective Essay On Critical Thinking Questioning and challenging my assumptions and attitudes about critical thinking is a new process for me, but I do appreciate that to develop and enhance my assumptions and other mindsets it is an important undertaking. Looking at what we hold to be true is an endeavor well trenched into us as we evolved. "The real value of critical thinking is that it's been at the root of all human progress" (Rabinowitz, 2015). Being challenged on my thinking is difficult, but once I got through the difficulty I realized it was for my betterment as a student and as a teacher. My prior experience as an undergraduate in early childhood education with Bloom's focused mainly on the cognitive domain and thus I cannot recall the affective or psychomotor domains being addressed. However, as I began to understand that "the committee identified three domains of educational activities or learning" (Bloom, 1956 as cited by Clark, 2015), I realized that I did have assumptions and that they were being challenged. First of all, I did assume that Bloom's focus on cognitive development devalues the importance of other domains and secondly that Bloom's Taxonomy is only used by educators in K–12 and college. Interestingly, both have since been challenged and changed through my readings as "it is important to note that the most common usage of Bloom's Taxonomy focuses on cognitive learning skills rather than psychomotor or affective skills, two domains that are crucial to the success of health Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay about Assessment of Critical Thinking Assessment of learning can be a meaningful tool for teachers and students during a course to provide feedback to the student about the type and quality of work that is being completed in the course and for the instructor to find areas where the student is having difficulties and so additional materials can be provided or the course modified. The aim of this paper is to define assessment and critical thinking skills, and then review a State University course and suggest different assessments that could be used to demonstrate learning. "Assessment strategies should be designed so that students apply the course material to their own lives, motivating them to think through and analyze the content for themselves" (Bassendowski & Salgado, 2005). The authors go on to encourage instructors to develop new assessment strategies, which utilize technology available today, rather than to use papers which can easily be plagiarized from the ease of internet sources (Bassendowski & Salgado, 2005, p. 9). Theoretical Foundations of Nursing– N505–10A utilized the following assessments; weekly assignments, final project, and class participation. Class participation was assessed by online discussion of questions which were posted by the instructor. Guidelines for discussion were posted in the syllabus which included general rules for discussion, grading criteria for discussion which included; quantity of participation, frequency of participation, quality of information, critical thinking and netiquette. Discussion questions were posted at the beginning of the course for all eight weeks, which allowed students time for research and reflection before posting deadlines. Discussion questions required applying theoretical models to current or past nursing practice and experiences. This provided application to personal experience for each student and encouraged collaborative learning, as students also Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Developing the ability to think critically is an important element for modern education approaches and models. According to Meyer (1976) the aim of education is to nurture the individual, to help the to realize the full potential that already exists inside him or her. There has always been a strand of educational thought that held that the strengthening of the child's thinking should be the chief business of the schools and not just an incidental outcome – if it happened at all ( Lipman, 2003 ). Qualified education should show the way to students about what and how to learn. While students evaluate what they learned and their learning methods, they manifest their critical thinking abilities (Emir, 2009). As Cotton indicates(1991) : "If students are to function successfully in a highly technical society,Then they must be equipped with lifelong learning and thinking skills necessary to acquire and process information in an ever changing world". One of the aims of education should be developing students' thinking skills as well as motor skills, which is basic goal of contemporary approaches in education. According to Elder & Paul (2008) students are not passive but active while they are realizing critical thinking. 2.4 Critical Thinking When the term of 'Critical Thinking' is searched, it is understood that there are meanings of it which are suggested in the frame of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on What is Critical Thinking? What is Critical Thinking? Is the process of conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and /or evaluating information gathered by observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or communication, as a guide to belief and action (Scriven & Paul, n.d.). When one applies critical thinking more ideas are develop, fewer mistakes are made and better decisions are reached. When people instead of using critical thinking act on beliefs or without giving it a second thought, the end results are poor decisions and as a result have a disaster at hand. People don't always use critical thinking, it is not uncommon to hear someone say such remarks after making the wrong decisions; "I just was not thinking", "I did not think it was a big deal",...show more content... Many times our students have unexpected behaviors, such as refuse to follow directions, have disrupt outburst, hostile, emotional problems, and even become physical towards others or themselves. Special education students do not respond to traditional discipline methods. With children having disabilities like ADHD, or mental health problems if not handled appropriately it the bad behavior could escalate and become difficult to stop. What role does critical thinking have in my analytical and intuitive decision making while I am work? • 7. Essay on Critical Thinking and Decision Making The process of critical thinking requires you to ask more questions of both others and of yourself before a decision or determination is made. In order to successfully evaluate data in a critical manner, you must have a system in place to assess information as it is presented. In any situation whether you are having a conversation, observing others, or material you have read, you must be ready to probe deeper and ask the right question at the right time. Browne, Keely, McCall and Kaplan, refers to critical thinking as a "Systematic evaluation of arguments based on explicit rational criteria (1998, p.IX)." The purpose of utilizing critical thinking skills is to get to the very core of an issue, topic or problem, and making a decision on the information. Therefore, there is little purpose to one without the other. Why would anyone become a critical thinker if they were not going to follow it up with a decision on the data as it is presented? Similarly, any decisions made without the benefit of any relevant information will end up being a decision made in haste. It is best to utilize every tool at your disposal to make an informed decision. I agree with the authors on the definition and use of critical thinking and decision making skills. The benefits of being a critical thinker are enormous, they include being able to make effective decisions and learning to ask the important show–stopping questions. By using these skills you will be able to probe deeper and get to the heart of the issue. I have already gone through the hurdle in my life where beliefs I have had in my whole life have been a fabrication. I learned to overcome the anger a long time ago. Even with the uncertainly of some beliefs that may be true, false, or in the middle, or looking at your opposing side and calmly analyzing their viewpoint; it isn't that difficult for me to do anymore. The hardest thing someone will find is looking at the opposing side of their argument. The human brain likes to simplify processes and this is a very easy example of what the brain does. Since they are against your viewpoint, your brain would assign them as an enemy. Things are not as black and white as that and viewing perspectives who oppose you can either teach you something new or reinforce your standing. Hopefully not in the way where you just belittle them as x category, but see why they think and act the way they do. Much of what critical thinking does is really subjective on what would be the easiest but I would say that for me, it would be ask questions. Now this may also be the hardest step for most people as well. But, if you have toned you're ability to critically think, this step is asking the why and how something works. It is a simple question or premise to the argument or object at hand. A few of the resistances that foster narrow–mindedness are denial, the refusal to believe something despite overwhelming evidence, avoidance, not seeking out opposing views but staying with only those that agree with your position on an issue, and ignorance, not seeking out information that is available(Boss, 2010). The two resistances that I have used are avoidance and conformity. These two go hand in hand with me that I will often seek out those that agree with my thoughts and avoid those that do not see things the way I do. At times, I will be with those that I do not agree with and those times instead of having a conversation, I will go with conformity to fit in at those times. Adjusting my thinking to overcome these will first require me to seek out and listen to both sides of the issues. Having the knowledge that is not based on biased opinions will help make a foundation that will increase my confidence in what I think and allow me to speak intelligently on the issue. For example, memorizing the area under a bell curve is very different from understanding how it is derived. Proofs are useful when proving mathematical concepts although they are not concrete and harder to understand. Creative aspects must be considered when trying to derive a difficult proof. Creative problem solving involving mathematics can use sense perception as a way of knowing. In these problems, real life situations allow for the organization of ideas and require that the student's attention be focused on the actual understanding of the concepts rather than the usual memorization of facts from concrete problems. For example, calculating the replanting of trees in a forest would depend on the circumstances surrounding the problems and factors would be dependant on the situation. Is creating a personal solution to the problems more effective than searching for existing solutions? In regards to mathematics, if a solution is known to exist using methods already established, there is no need to search for additional or new solutions. There are always exceptions to any case and new knowledge could form from a completely new and personal solution.
