- The EU VAT rules are about to change as of 1. January 2020. Is your company prepared?
- Several areas are affected, but the VAT number validity-check will have the biggest impact.
- You, as a Supplier will have the additional responsibility to check the validity of your EU customer´s VAT number with the help of the European Commission`s VAT Information Exchange System (VIES). - If the query returns the VALID answer, you can issue your invoice with the usual 0% EU VAT value - However if the VAT number is INVALID, you must apply your local VAT rate in the invoice, even for intra-EU relations. Should you apply the 0% VAT rate instead, you will be claimed for the payment of the VAT amount by your local financial authorities.
- Checking the VAT number manually is time consuming, and storing the VIES replies for later reference is not solved.

- Several tax authorities are providing the name and address data belonging to a VAT number, allowing us to compare these with the data in SAP. Even if a VAT number is valid, the VIES company name and address may not match with your SAP database.
- A person can compare the two addresses easily, and decide if they are similar. To automate address comparison, use the SystemFox GEO module.
