24. Som-Mai’s Story
Son-Mai Nguyen came to be my student in
2009 at the tender age of 13. She was
technically a middle school student, but was
taking classes both at Eisenhower High
School and Texas Technical University.
Though she could have participated 1 year
early, Som-Mai chose to graduate in four
years with her class. Her efforts earned her
the title of Valedictorian and National Merit
Scholar; an award given to a select group of
students nation wide based on their GPA,
SAT score as a junior, and community
involvement. She now attends Stanford
University and is on track to graduate in the
class of 2017.
