Federal OSHA fines from January to March totaled $5,869,983. OSHA
inspections resulted in 22 significant fines (over $100,000) in that period,
as well as a 30-day prison sentence and a contempt charge. The highest
fine was just over $1 million for egregious fall hazards at a Florida roofing
contractor. Common citations included fall, chemical, explosion and
confined space hazards.

OSHA Postpones Stand-Down to Prevent Falls Until Summer
OSHA has postponed the 7th annual National Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, originally scheduled for
May 4-8, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will be rescheduled this summer. Visit the Stand-Down

EPA Suspends Some Enforcement Actions
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has suspended enforcement policies for civil violations
indefinitely, citing lack of access to key staff, laboratories and facilities that work to analyze samples due to current
social distancing measures and travel restrictions. Under the policy, the agency will not expect to seek penalties for
noncompliance with routine monitoring and reporting obligations that are the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
