Firefighter Safety Research Paper
Today, firefighter safety is a focal point and hot topic of discussion throughout the fire service. With new research and data pointing to alarming cancer
rates among men and women on the job, more efforts need to be done to protect our heroes. The 16 Initiatives platform is built and maintained to
accomplishing just that. As a collection point for data, research and informational publications and guidelines for success. The National Fallen
Firefighter Foundations is facilitating tools for success in firefighter safety; it's up to the nation's departments to take advantage of this information and
implement the necessary changes. RMFD is no exception; it has navigated safely throughout the years of its existence with few instances of severe

Fire Engineering Research Papers
Fires cause an estimated 11.6 billion dollars a year of direct property loss in the United States of America (Haynes). Engineers that work in this
field of reducing damages and cost or health factors of items are classified under health and safety engineering. The fire protection engineers
classified under this work hard every day to lower that cost, damages, and rates of fire. They are constantly developing new ways to protect people
every day. They can also be classified under fire fighters due to them partnering with fire fighting organizations. People may ask what isfire protection
engineering and what do they do on a daily basis. Fire protection engineers are a group of engineers that work everyday to lower the cost, damages,

The fire protection engineering job outlook is very good and has grown eleven percent in the past year. Also along with the growth is an increase in
more complex building designs. These building require more performance–based numerical tools. Also, they now use probabilistic risk analysis. When
using performance based numerical tools they tell the safety factor of buildings. That is why they use the risk analysis. Risk analysis are also more
accurate because the numerical tools on newer day buildings are not as accurate, so the checking of a building every possible risk and a solution for it
is much more accurate

Essay On The Fire
Growing up there were two buildings that caught fire along our block on the same side just four doors down in each direction. Both occurred at night
displacing families that saw the buildings boarded up with fresh plywood that never quite did cover all the black tinge of the flames that tore through
the windows.
It stayed that way for some time accompanied by that exclusive and ever–present burnt odor that wafted through the neighborhood reminding everyone
of the destructive force of fire. For a young boy, it was intimidating and made the prayer that surrounded the light switch to my bedroom all the more
significant: "Bless this house oh Lord I pray, make it safe through night and day."
At some point every summer, the western United...show more content...
Militant environmentalists armed with a plethora of lawsuits have been the log jam that has prevented loggers from our nation's woodlands. Without
appropriate logging management in place, forests become overgrown and destabilized and when faced with the deadly duo of drought and lightning
strikes, woodlands become susceptible to igniting into towering infernos.
Federal firefighters are often successful in knocking down these conflagrations and throughout the years have become victims of their own success as
much biomass underbrush has not only remained, but multiplied. All that does is become the kindling for the next, inescapable bout of forest fire.
For more than a century, the standing federal policy has been to extinguish all fires. Let it burn is completely left out of the equation. In fact, such
thinking is an anathema to any seasoned firefighter. According to one longtime, prominent fire official, Greg Fabrizo of Coal Township, PA, "a
controlled fire can be the most capable and cost–effective means available for managing woodlands."
If the federal government had allowed a place like Yellowstone to have contained burns when fire does irrupt, they would have avoided their
biblical–like conflagration that provided so much destruction back in 1990.
Let it burn should be law. Healthy forests need to burn on a semi–regular basis. If they don't, they are nothing but firestorms in waiting.
No one out west wants a

Fire Prevention Essay
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the
ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to
be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together.
Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them
against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very

Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main
kinds of fire alarms: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs, photoelectric alarms
are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit,
called dual sensor smoke alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need to changed regularly.
They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no action on the fire itself.
Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of large quantities of people, have made their way into
our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, sprinklers
typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. The
same website notes that if both fire alarms and fire sprinkler are installed in a

Importance of Fire Safety in Building
A sound knowledge of building construction is essential for every fire & safety engineer, as is an understanding of the principles of structural fire
protection. This knowledge with the experience gained on the fire ground will enable him to assess how building will behave when involved in fire.
The construction of building and the degree of fire protection built into the structure have important bearings on all aspects of fire service functions, be
it carrying out rescue of fires, adopting effective firefighting methods, assessing means of escapes requirements or recommendations on fire safety in
the buildings.
Effective fire safe design begins with conscious analysis and decision–making early in the design process. The architectural design of a building has a
significant influence on its fire safety capabilities and performance. In addition to the design of the structure and shell of the building itself, the interior
layout, circulation patterns, interior finish materials, and building services are all important factors in the parameter of fire safety in the buildings.
The primary concept of creating fire safety in structures today involves the philosophy that the building itself must be designed to be either
self–protecting or self–controlling from fire and fire spread. This is particularly important as buildings become more complex and exhibit features that
are contradictory to fire department operation. A building should not be

Use of Technology in Fire Safety Education
Every year 5,000 lives are taken due to fire in the homes. Many of these deaths may have been prevented. Fire not only claims lives, it's destroys
property and injuries many. Thankfully, there is something we can do.
Over the years, the growth in technology used in to educate about fire safety has increased greatly. We now have many different ways to reach people
of all ages. Some of this information includes: increased importance of the smoke detector, fire safety houses, fire safety videos, educational websites,
high school cadet programs, and fire education equipment. All of these are very helpful and successful ways of teaching about fire safety....show more

Fire safety houses also make appearances at elementary schools and county fairs to help educate children. They are very beneficial to children and
parents as well.
Fire safety videos have a great appeal to children. Videos such as, Be Cool about Fire Safety, include cartoons, songs, and voices of celebrities. Kids
have fun singing along, while learning about fire safety. Sayings such as, "fall and crawl", "don't hide, go outside", and of course, "stop drop and roll"
are highlighted throughout the video. It's a great way to reach children. Not to mention there are hundreds of educational fire safety videos out there.
Major insurance companies have begun to produce free videos, such as All–State's "Be Cool about Fire Safety". Fire protection organizations also offer
fire safety videos. Not all videos are directed towards children however, there are a variety of videos that appeal to all ages.
Campus Firewatch offers a series of videos directed towards College students in dorms, off campus, or in Greek housing. The videos address many
fire threats such as: candles and halogen lamps, as well as many facts about college fire safety. Campus Firewatch has also created magnetic stickers
for college students with sayings such as: "smoke alarms– got batteries?" and "sprinklers get turned on when it's hot".
College students are not the only other audience targeted. The elderly are also in need of fire safety

Firefighting System: A Case Study
According to Mroszczyk (2012) a firefighting system is undoubtedly the utmost significant of the building amenities, as its aim is to protect human life
and property. An effective Emergency Action and Response Plan, are equivalent of an Operations Plan are just as important and a fire fighting system.
A plan references a planned response that follows a well manage and defined targeted event(s). The purpose of the incident action plan is to establish
objectives or list priorities, describe reaction schemes and strategies, and to be coherent what is to be accomplished within a defined period of time to
manage targeted incidents/events. Mroszczyk (2012) stresses that the singular soul accountable for inclusive administration authority of an occurrence
also known as the Incident Commander. The Incident Commander is held responsible and accountable for giving...show more content...
The familiarity of the effectiveness and reliability of a water spray fixed and the water mist system are crucial for the Incident Commander. The
Incident Commander plan must interpret NFPA standards to meet and prescribe specialized hazards that mitigate those risks but also give extreme care
to those in danger. Klaus (2013) mentions that the Incident Commander must know about the design when it comes to water spray fixed systems that
extreme care must be given to the maintenance of the system due to its catastrophic consequences which their plan for impaired conditions must cover
in detail. The Incident Commander must also be familiar with the water mist system and that it can interlock with other mechanical systems but can
have ancillary affects and integrate cause and effects

Fire Emergency Drill
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Fire safety is everybody's concern. Poor fire safety practices and improper planning for fire emergency can consequently lead to critical situations.
This is more threatening particularly for buildings which accommodate laboratories, chemical stores or server rooms. Observance and application of
fire prevention principles can help to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards. Moreover, much emphasis must be put on elaboration of a well
designed emergency plan that defines the appropriate procedures to be followed in case of a fire. Implementation and practice of this plan through
fire emergency drills is vital. The main focus of this study being importance of fire drills and setting up of an...show more content...

2.3 Classes of fire
When fighting fires, it is necessary to choose the right type of fire extinguisher. The choice of the fire extinguisher is based on the class of fire which
depends upon the material being burnt in the fire. Table 1 gives a summary of the classes of fire and the type of burning material or fuel source.

Firefighter Safety
We are the most technically advanced nation in the free world but yet we have not been able to reduce the number of firefighter fatalities over the
years. Its one of the great mysteries of the world today. Our gear is better than what they wore thirty years ago, its better than what they wore ten
years ago and we still lose an average of one hundred firefighters every year. I know that not all are dying in structure fires but just one is one too
many. Today we have many of our guys who like to push the envelop. Our gear is the best and it will protect us in any kind of conditions. But is still
has limits. You may be protected from the heat andfire to an extent but you can only go as far as the SCBA will let...show more content...
They are "gun–hoe" on an interior attack without giving it some strategic thought first. They put their men into situations where they are extremely
exposed when the only life safety concern is to the firefighters themselves. It is an unconscious tactical command with little thought or regard for its
necessity. The result often is that firefighters are continually killed in highly exposed conditions under very questionable circumstances. Today's
building construction also lends itself into the deaths of firefighters. We see everyday about building collapsing in on our guys while they are
fighting fire. The builders and engineers are always coming up with lighter materials and cheaper ways to make things to save them money on
construction to boost their bottom lines with out due regard for safety to others especially firefighters. A light weight wood frame truss will fail under
fire conditions in a little as five to eight minutes. Given the time that the fire is discovered and called into dispatch, the time they have to turn the call
around and dispatch units, one minute to get enroute, and if they can get on scene within five minutes, another couple of minutes to pull hose lines and
enter the building, your are on the threshold of a roof collapse. Then we also put guys on the roof to ventilate thus weakening the roof even more. All
this for a house that the insurance company is going to tear down anyway and

Fire Safety Research Paper
Safety is a priority in the fire service. We must keep our personnel safe in order for them to provide affective service to the citizens. Our actions, our
training, and the equipment that we use, all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety for our
crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters.
First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our policy that we do not enter moving water; however,
recent training does allow us to enter standing water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate safety
hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when
we enter standing water. Be that as it may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every apparatus, we can
potentially save the life of a rescuer. The addition of floatation devices is a low cost, high value addition to improve safety.
Second, Lighted traffic cones are a cost effective way to increase the safety of personnel while operating at night. We currently have...show more

Our department has an air management policy that is used to prevent firefighter from running out of air inside of an IDLH environment.
Additionally, we train on fire survival techniques to escape from a mayday situation. However, Often times, firefighters die a few feet from safety
because they run out of air. A personal escape canister will provide the added time that is needed to reach a safe location. These canisters are small
and require very little training to use. The addition of these canisters can mean the difference between a close call and a funeral. They will greatly

After a recent fire at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ killed three students who did not respond to what they thought was a false alarm,
officials at Oswego State University are being especially careful when it comes to the issue of fire safety. This semester there is a new policy
regarding the confiscation of items considered being hazardous. The policy states that any items that are found and have the potential to cause a fire,
such as candles, incense, and certain appliances like microwaves, and sandwich makers, will be confiscated and not returned to the students they were
taken from. Under the old policy students were able to get the items back at the end of the year. Around...show more content...
For the students who purposely ignore
them, it is not the job of their resident advisors to check the rooms for those left inside. For students who are either hearing impaired or heavy sleepers
there are strobe lights available for their alarms.
Residence Hall Fire Safety is a serious issue because of the population and potential for injury and loss that could occur as a result of a fire. In
Oswego State University there are fire safety rules in which every student is expected to know and follow. Each residence hall conducts periodic
fire drills so that residents can learn the proper evacuation procedures and escape routes. Failure to do so is a violation of residence hall rules and can
result in disciplinary action. The procedures and routes are posted on the inside of each door in resident hall rooms and throughout the building. All
students should know the location of all the exits on their floor and how to reach them in case of darkness.
Every hall is equipped with heat and smoke sensors, fire extinguishers and fire alarms. When a student moves into a residence hall they should
familiarize themselves with the location of this equipment. Tampering with any of the fire protection equipment is prohibited. Intentional activation of
alarm systems for any reason other than to report a fire is strictly prohibited.

Fire Prevention Through Infrared Scan of Electrical Equipment
Electrical Fires
According to the latest statistics from NFPA's report on "Fires in Industrial or Manufacturing Properties", found here: http://www.nfpa.org
/news–and–research/fire–statistics–and–reports/fire–statistics/fires–by–property–type/industrial–and–manufacturing–facilities

NFPA 70B– Section 11.17 provides guidance on the use of infrared scans to determine the condition of various elements of an electrical power
distribution system and to provide information that is used:
1.To determine whether any corrective maintenance or replacement is necessary or desirable
2.To confirm the ability of the element to continue to perform its design function adequately
3.To chart the gradual deterioration of the equipment over its service life
Preparation for Infrared Scan
Very little preparation is required of the organization requesting the infrared scan. The thermographer and the qualified electricians opening the panels
should follow NFPA 70E– Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. This could include the need for arc flash analysis, training, and specific
personal protective equipment (PPE) for all personnel who will be standing in front of open, live electrical panels. [See NFPA 70E– Tables 130.7
(c)(9) (a), (c)(10), (c)(11) for details on PPE required]

Infrared (IR) scans should be performed while electrical equipment is under load, preferably peak load conditions, but not less than 40% of the rated
load of the electrical equipment being inspected.
Infrared scans typically include the

Campfire Safety 101
There's nothing better than sitting around a campfire on a chilly night with a cup of hot cocoa or the taste of food cooked over a fire. However, if
you are not responsible with a campfire, you could cause a lot of damage to the environment and even to yourself. If you are building a campfire in your
backyard, set up a designated fire pit. If you are camping, be sure to use any fire pits that are set up for campfires. If the campground or camping area
doesn't have a designated fire pit, be sure that the area of the fire pit, plus about 3 feet from the pit wall is clear of grass and debris.
Setting up a Campfire
Be sure to pick a spot that is at least 20 feet from the RV, tent or house. Once the area has been cleaned of all burnable debris, create a wall of rock
or use a metal fire pit ring to keep the fire contained. For a permanent pit, dig down to the mineral dirt and then ring the pit with rocks or a metal
ring. Always choose a spot that is sheltered from the wind and that is level. If you are not near a water hose, be sure to have a large container of
water on hand to put out the fire should you have to do it in a hurry.
Building the Fire
You'll need tinder that burns easily, kindling and logs. The best way to get a fire started is to use the teepee method. Pile tinder such as newspaper
or dry grass in the center of the fire pit. Add small twigs to the pile. Lean kindling over the top in the shape of a teepee. The tops of the sticks of
kindling will

  • 2. Fire Engineering Research Papers Fires cause an estimated 11.6 billion dollars a year of direct property loss in the United States of America (Haynes). Engineers that work in this field of reducing damages and cost or health factors of items are classified under health and safety engineering. The fire protection engineers classified under this work hard every day to lower that cost, damages, and rates of fire. They are constantly developing new ways to protect people every day. They can also be classified under fire fighters due to them partnering with fire fighting organizations. People may ask what isfire protection engineering and what do they do on a daily basis. Fire protection engineers are a group of engineers that work everyday to lower the cost, damages, ...show more content... The fire protection engineering job outlook is very good and has grown eleven percent in the past year. Also along with the growth is an increase in more complex building designs. These building require more performance–based numerical tools. Also, they now use probabilistic risk analysis. When using performance based numerical tools they tell the safety factor of buildings. That is why they use the risk analysis. Risk analysis are also more accurate because the numerical tools on newer day buildings are not as accurate, so the checking of a building every possible risk and a solution for it is much more accurate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On The Fire Growing up there were two buildings that caught fire along our block on the same side just four doors down in each direction. Both occurred at night displacing families that saw the buildings boarded up with fresh plywood that never quite did cover all the black tinge of the flames that tore through the windows. It stayed that way for some time accompanied by that exclusive and ever–present burnt odor that wafted through the neighborhood reminding everyone of the destructive force of fire. For a young boy, it was intimidating and made the prayer that surrounded the light switch to my bedroom all the more significant: "Bless this house oh Lord I pray, make it safe through night and day." At some point every summer, the western United...show more content... Militant environmentalists armed with a plethora of lawsuits have been the log jam that has prevented loggers from our nation's woodlands. Without appropriate logging management in place, forests become overgrown and destabilized and when faced with the deadly duo of drought and lightning strikes, woodlands become susceptible to igniting into towering infernos. Federal firefighters are often successful in knocking down these conflagrations and throughout the years have become victims of their own success as much biomass underbrush has not only remained, but multiplied. All that does is become the kindling for the next, inescapable bout of forest fire. For more than a century, the standing federal policy has been to extinguish all fires. Let it burn is completely left out of the equation. In fact, such thinking is an anathema to any seasoned firefighter. According to one longtime, prominent fire official, Greg Fabrizo of Coal Township, PA, "a controlled fire can be the most capable and cost–effective means available for managing woodlands." If the federal government had allowed a place like Yellowstone to have contained burns when fire does irrupt, they would have avoided their biblical–like conflagration that provided so much destruction back in 1990. Let it burn should be law. Healthy forests need to burn on a semi–regular basis. If they don't, they are nothing but firestorms in waiting. No one out west wants a

  • 5. Fire Prevention Essay Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very ...show more content... Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire alarms: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs, photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need to changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no action on the fire itself. Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of large quantities of people, have made their way into our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, sprinklers typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. The same website notes that if both fire alarms and fire sprinkler are installed in a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Importance of Fire Safety in Building A sound knowledge of building construction is essential for every fire & safety engineer, as is an understanding of the principles of structural fire protection. This knowledge with the experience gained on the fire ground will enable him to assess how building will behave when involved in fire. The construction of building and the degree of fire protection built into the structure have important bearings on all aspects of fire service functions, be it carrying out rescue of fires, adopting effective firefighting methods, assessing means of escapes requirements or recommendations on fire safety in the buildings. Effective fire safe design begins with conscious analysis and decision–making early in the design process. The architectural design of a building has a significant influence on its fire safety capabilities and performance. In addition to the design of the structure and shell of the building itself, the interior layout, circulation patterns, interior finish materials, and building services are all important factors in the parameter of fire safety in the buildings. The primary concept of creating fire safety in structures today involves the philosophy that the building itself must be designed to be either self–protecting or self–controlling from fire and fire spread. This is particularly important as buildings become more complex and exhibit features that are contradictory to fire department operation. A building should not be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Poor fire safety practices and improper planning for fire emergency can consequently lead to critical situations. This is more threatening particularly for buildings which accommodate laboratories, chemical stores or server rooms. Observance and application of fire prevention principles can help to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards. Moreover, much emphasis must be put on elaboration of a well designed emergency plan that defines the appropriate procedures to be followed in case of a fire. Implementation and practice of this plan through fire emergency drills is vital. The main focus of this study being importance of fire drills and setting up of an...show more content... Firefighter Safety Essay Firefighter Safety We are the most technically advanced nation in the free world but yet we have not been able to reduce the number of firefighter fatalities over the years. Its one of the great mysteries of the world today. Our gear is better than what they wore thirty years ago, its better than what they wore ten years ago and we still lose an average of one hundred firefighters every year. I know that not all are dying in structure fires but just one is one too many. Today we have many of our guys who like to push the envelop. They are "gun–hoe" on an interior attack without giving it some strategic thought first. They put their men into situations where they are extremely exposed when the only life safety concern is to the firefighters themselves. It is an unconscious tactical command with little thought or regard for its necessity. The result often is that firefighters are continually killed in highly exposed conditions under very questionable circumstances. Today's building construction also lends itself into the deaths of firefighters. We see everyday about building collapsing in on our guys while they are fighting fire. The builders and engineers are always coming up with lighter materials and cheaper ways to make things to save them money on construction to boost their bottom lines with out due regard for safety to others especially firefighters. A light weight wood frame truss will fail under fire conditions in a little as five to eight minutes. Given the time that the fire is discovered and called into dispatch, the time they have to turn the call around and dispatch units, one minute to get enroute, and if they can get on scene within five minutes, another couple of minutes to pull hose lines and enter the building, your are on the threshold of a roof collapse. Then we also put guys on the roof to ventilate thus weakening the roof even more. All this for a house that the insurance company is going to tear down anyway and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Fire Safety Research Paper Safety is a priority in the fire service. We must keep our personnel safe in order for them to provide affective service to the citizens. Our actions, our training, and the equipment that we use, all play a significant role in our overall safety. I have identified three items that will improve safety for our crews, floatation devices, lighted traffic cones, and personal escape canisters. First, floatation devices, life jackets, will protect our crews in water rescue attempts. It is our policy that we do not enter moving water; however, recent training does allow us to enter standing water and attempt rescues from the shore. In either of these scenarios, drowning is the ultimate safety hazard. We have measures that we take to prevent us from falling into the water such as tying off with a tag line and using a sounding device when we enter standing water. Be that as it may, the danger of drowning is still a reality. By putting four floatation devices on every apparatus, we can potentially save the life of a rescuer. The addition of floatation devices is a low cost, high value addition to improve safety. Second, Lighted traffic cones are a cost effective way to increase the safety of personnel while operating at night. We currently have...show more content... Fire Safety Essay Fire Safety Essay After a recent fire at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ killed three students who did not respond to what they thought was a false alarm, officials at Oswego State University are being especially careful when it comes to the issue of fire safety. This semester there is a new policy regarding the confiscation of items considered being hazardous. The policy states that any items that are found and have the potential to cause a fire, such as candles, incense, and certain appliances like microwaves, and sandwich makers, will be confiscated and not returned to the students they were taken from. Under the old policy students were able to get the items back at the end of the year. Around...show more content... For students who are either hearing impaired or heavy sleepers there are strobe lights available for their alarms. Residence Hall Fire Safety is a serious issue because of the population and potential for injury and loss that could occur as a result of a fire. In Oswego State University there are fire safety rules in which every student is expected to know and follow. Each residence hall conducts periodic fire drills so that residents can learn the proper evacuation procedures and escape routes. Failure to do so is a violation of residence hall rules and can result in disciplinary action. The procedures and routes are posted on the inside of each door in resident hall rooms and throughout the building. All students should know the location of all the exits on their floor and how to reach them in case of darkness. Every hall is equipped with heat and smoke sensors, fire extinguishers and fire alarms. When a student moves into a residence hall they should familiarize themselves with the location of this equipment. Tampering with any of the fire protection equipment is prohibited. Intentional activation of alarm systems for any reason other than to report a fire is strictly prohibited. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Persuasive Essay On Fire Safety Campfire Safety 101 There's nothing better than sitting around a campfire on a chilly night with a cup of hot cocoa or the taste of food cooked over a fire. However, if you are not responsible with a campfire, you could cause a lot of damage to the environment and even to yourself. If you are building a campfire in your backyard, set up a designated fire pit. If you are camping, be sure to use any fire pits that are set up for campfires. If the campground or camping area doesn't have a designated fire pit, be sure that the area of the fire pit, plus about 3 feet from the pit wall is clear of grass and debris. Setting up a Campfire Be sure to pick a spot that is at least 20 feet from the RV, tent or house. Once the area has been cleaned of all burnable debris, create a wall of rock or use a metal fire pit ring to keep the fire contained. For a permanent pit, dig down to the mineral dirt and then ring the pit with rocks or a metal ring. Always choose a spot that is sheltered from the wind and that is level. If you are not near a water hose, be sure to have a large container of water on hand to put out the fire should you have to do it in a hurry. Building the Fire You'll need tinder that burns easily, kindling and logs. The best way to get a fire started is to use the teepee method. Pile tinder such as newspaper or dry grass in the center of the fire pit. Add small twigs to the pile. Lean kindling over the top in the shape of a teepee. The tops of the sticks of kindling will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
