a comprehensive approach to wellness at
Goldcorp’s Wharf Mine
#rocksolidatwork
What happens when you take 180

who live in South Dakota
are predominately male (83%)
work 12 hour rotating shifts
are mostly over age 41 (61%)
perform repetitive tasks
have multiple health risks (45%)
are at risk for MSD’s (100%)

and design a comprehensive
approach to wellness by
integrating traditional occupational

with health promotion

University of Michigan Health Risk Assessment administered 2009, 2011, 2013.
Improvements in the health risk profile of a population can lead to reductions in health costs (Edington et al., 2001,
Goetzel et al., 1999).

1.  SPS-6 measures a worker's perception of his or her ability to overcome the distraction of current physical and/or
psychological problems in order to handle job stress, complete tasks, achieve goals and maintain sufficient focus
and energy levels.
2.  Presenteeism costs can be calculated by extrapolating estimates of productivity loss/gain (the SPS-6 Score)
multiplied by # of employees and average annual employee compensation.
