Who we serve: Virtedco provides a variety of solutions to meet the needs of leading organizations in Seoul and the surrounding area for the purpose of fulfilling their language learning requirements.
What is the opening process: Through careful consulting, Virtedco effectively determines a client’s needs & requests. We then develop and provide a specialized and customized curriculum. Virtedco performs consulting to establish a coherent strategy with the client, not just to introduce class instructors.
Why you need a VBC Language Program: Oftentimes, members of companies & organizations cannot afford the time to visit an English institution directly. Therefore, they require a teacher to travel ‘in-house’ to effectively fulfill their language requirements.
Who benefits from our language programs: Virtedco students desire to improve language proficiency for their own special purpose:
-> such as job interviews or position transfers, overseas school entrance, or self-development, etc.
What’s the enrollment process: Virtedco will provide a 1:1 consultation with each student, and the student(s) will be informed of their correct language level. From there, the client will be able to choose the class schedule that suits their needs the most.
What’s special about Virtedco: Virtedco has also operated the Virtedco Language Center in Bundang for the past 10 years while endeavoring to enhance student’s language needs through small group based conversation classes.
-> Virtedco also hires only native instructors to provide diverse teaching experiences to each student, as well as offering a ‘flexible scheduling system’ that allows students to have class when the time is right for them.
Language classes with Virtedco are essentially grouped into two major categories; Group Classes & 1:1 Classes.
Group Classes – are further broken down into General Conversation, Business Conversation, Business Skill & Focused Workshops.
General Conversation classes may focus on a specific area, such as OPIc preparation, or a more general area such as a general conversation textbook. However, their primary purpose is to enhance English language proficiency.
Business Conversation classes are taught in the context of commerce-based textbooks and resources, and specialize in enhancing students’
confidence while speaking business English.
Business Skill classes are taught with the intent of focusing on a specific area of business such as Marketing, Writing, Meeting, Presentations or Negotiation Skills.
Workshops specialize on a specific topic such as Culture Differences, Leadership, etc. However, they are taught within a specific timeframe,
such as one class, for example, totaling 3 hours. The intensity & duration of the class can be determined by the client.
1:1 Classes – Virtedco offers the most comprehensive approach to language learning possible, with the instructor working one on one with
a student for the purpose of rapidly enhancing language proficiency while identifying the specific learning requirements necessary to develop a
personalized curriculum.
Executive – The Executive 1:1 Program matches a Virtedco instructor with a business executive for the purpose of maximizing language learning efficiency and offering the most personalized approach to teaching possible.
Telephone Service – Virtedco offers the “Langtalk” language learning program for the purpose of effective, scheduled telephone conversation classes with a qualified & experienced Virtedco teacher. The comprehensive “Langtalk” curriculum has been developed to most effectively facilitate these language classes.
Attendance Sheet – Start class on time while stressing to students the importance of punctuality. Starting on time will best benefit students’ potential for learning.
Textbook/curriculum/resources – Ensure that you have the books, worksheets and supplemental material prepared for well in-advance of the class starting. Check also with your Virtedco account manager that you have the class facilities that you require and that they are fully functional. For example: – Is a projector needed for a PowerPoint Presentation? Check with the individuals responsible so that you will have full access to this device in advance.
Lesson Planning / Time Management – This area is where the teacher truly shines. After clearly identifying the teaching objectives for the class, develop an effective lesson that introduces the core concepts for learning and then builds on its acquisition in a practical context. Invest the time necessary in advance to ensure that class activities flow well, and manage time well enough so that all areas of the lesson are covered and that sufficient time remains for review.
Passion – Easily the most critical component of teaching! Effective teaching necessitates the appropriate level of energy & enthusiasm for the group that is being taught. Remember that the teacher’s intent is important in the learning process, and that enthusiasm for learning in students is invariably related to the teacher’s energy projected towards the class.
Warming Up – The Virtedco teacher must make every effort to ‘break the ice’ with students at the start of every class by eliciting English dialogue from students for the purpose of preparing students to involve themselves in the process of their own learning.
-> Example: How was your weekend? Have you seen the latest news headlines? What are you planning to do this evening?
Core Lesson – The effective teacher must have a fully developed lesson prepared that takes into account:
-> Learning Objectives of the Class: the methodology for achieving language acquisition, and using a variety of teaching resources to ensure students’ full engagement in the learning process.
-> Questions should be continually directed at students in order to:
a) determine that full comprehension is occurring and
b) tofully engage students in the learning process.
For example: Did Mr. White walk to the grocery store to buy milk, or bread? Was it sunny that day? (closed-ended questions) How was the weather that day? What did Mr. White buy at the grocery store? (open-ended questions)
Closed-ended questions -> should be used primarily in lower level classes with the intent on building confidence in students.
Open-ended questions -> should be used in intermediate/high level classes for the purpose on increasing fluency, accuracy and building language proficiency.
Wrap-up – The teacher should accurately plan to have 5-10 minutes at the end of every class to sufficiently review the lesson objectives of the class.
-> This is where time-management skills come into play. Succinctly review the vocabulary & structure of the day, while challenging students to further elicit newly-taught language in a summarizing context.
The Virtedco teaching methodology is uniquely constructed to provide the most effective, practical & valuable teaching approach possible.
->The ultimate goal; is to maximize quality of learning in the classroom.
Virtedco achieves this goal through three primary teaching objectives:
Active Emulation – Teacher presents new learning objectives & vocabulary related to the developed lesson for the day. This vocabulary is selected to build upon introduced vocabulary in previous classes.
Contextual Recognition – Students together read a dialogue demonstrating the highlighted vocabulary used in practical context. The teacher will then ensure learning comprehension by asking a variety of questions that challenge students to produce a practical understanding of the vocabulary.
-> Students will then complete an activity in which they will ‘match,’ ‘gap-fill,’ or answer ‘multiple-choice’ questions to further reinforce their understanding of the daily vocabulary.
Creative Repetition – Students then work in teams to brainstorm, write, revise and then present their own ‘self-introduction’ dialogue. This ‘capstone’ lesson activity will focus on production of the lesson’s vocabulary, while more importantly, further building upon practical language delivery.
There are essentially two parties that the Virtedco teacher will communicate with and must be continually mindful of in the process of teaching classes while under contract with Virtedco:
Student(s): Ultimately, the satisfaction of our clients will correspond with the effectiveness of teaching the client’s student(s). The teacher must always endeavor to teach at the highest level possible. Korean students are accustomed to listening intently while respecting the teacher’s right to speak during the majority of class; but the goal of language teaching at Virtedco is to reduce ‘ttt’ teacher talk time and maximize students’ practical usage of language structures being taught. Always seek to encourage students to speak as much as possible while building their confidence in the process.
What are common traits of Korean students?
Waiting for feedback, but not active and aggressive
Then what we can do?
Actively call students’ names and directly check their understanding
Ask questions equally and lead the class in a positive, productive manner.
Virtedco Account Manager:
-> Your Account Manager’s responsibility is to support you fully in your efforts to teach an effective class, and will act to assist you in every way possible. When in doubt of a situation, please talk to your Virtedco account manager.
Anticipating Each & Every Class:
The Virtedco teacher should recognize questions that are appropriate for the class and related to the curriculum and lesson objectives. Those questions should be anticipated in advance and able to be answered in an effective manner by the teacher.
Unexpected Situations:
Such as a student who attends class but is not on the attendance sheet, issues related to the resources themselves, such as a problem with the classroom computer, or more complex issues, such as a student making inappropriate and uncomfortable gestures during class; must be discussed with Virtedco manager.
