NTRO
My name is Hassuhn Perth and I’m 16 years old. I was born on October 30,
1996 in Syracuse, NY. I am an only child with lots of cousins, therefore; I am
never lonely. My mom, La’Shonna Jackson, was born and raised in Syracuse,
New York, and moved with me to Atlanta in December 2012.
She’s the Head of Fiscal Department at the Fulton County Public Health Aldredge Center. My dad, Maurice Perth was born and raised in Ocho Rios,
Jamaica. He moved to Syracuse, New York in the 80’s. He’s the owner of Grouch
Records, 986 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222.

4. I had two Great Danes (Bruno 13, and Cleopatra 14); both passed away 2 years
ago. I have a sky terrier now named Ashton. I love animals and have plans buy a
Tibetan Mastiff later this year.
I have a couple of hobbies. For one, I’m an audiophile. I have hundreds of vinyl
records, two turntables, subwoofer/speakers, preamps, and equalizers. I own
approximately 400 records, give or take. I like going downtown and hanging out
with friends skating, spending money, and shopping. I enjoy traveling, I have
traveled to Chicago, Boston, Orlando, Philly, Los Angeles, Seattle, London, England,
Sydney and Perth, Australia, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Barbados.

5. In school, I have had the opportunity to learn about a number of different
subjects, but the one that captivates me the most is Biology. I plan on
majoring in Biology at Columbus State University, and by the end of my final
year I hope to receive a Bachelors of Science Degree and later pursue my
doctorate degree.
The reason I decided to apply to Columbus State University is because of its high
rank as a university, its emphasis on extensive research, its dedicated faculty and
student body, and its excellent, broad-based curriculum. Also, molecular and cellular
biology are of great interest to me; this university's B.S. program in Biology is just
what I am looking for. I feel that attending Columbus State University will put me on
the right path to success.

OLLEGE
Recently, in my Entrepreneurial Ventures class, our assignment was to research the
college and career of our choice. I chose Columbus State University. Completing the
assignment afforded me a wealth of information on what it takes to become a
biologist.

EQUIREMENTS
To complete a degree in biology, students must obtain a minimum
overall grade point average of 2.0 in all science courses applied to
graduation. To enter the pre-professional or pre-veterinary programs
one must have achieved and must continue to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or
better and be making progress toward the degree.

IOLOGIST
Research biologists: study the natural world, using the latest scientific tools and
techniques in both laboratory settings and the natural environment, to understand
how living systems work.
Health care: Biologists may develop public health campaigns to defeat illnesses
such as tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, and heart disease.
Environmental management and conservation: Biologists in management and
conservation careers are interested in solving environmental problems and
conserving the natural world for future generations.
Education: Life science educators enjoy working with people and encouraging them
to learn new things, whether in a classroom, a research lab, the field, or a museum.

UTLOOK
Job growth is expected in a number of areas, biotechnology and molecular biology
in particular. Business leaders have begun to address the issue of creating more
science and technology jobs in the United States to prevent them from being
exported.
Also, the number of openings in federal government agencies charged with
managing natural resources, such as the Interior and Agriculture Departments and
the Environmental Protection Agency, is expected to grow immensely in the future.

ALARIES
The National Association of Colleges and Employers 2012 Salary Survey reported a
median starting salary of $38,300 for graduates with a bachelor's degree in the
biological/life sciences, up from $37,900 in 2011. Data from the 2012 Bureau of
Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook show that 2010 median starting
salaries for positions in the life sciences ranges from $33,000 (Food Science
Technician or Forest Conservation Technician with an Associate's degree) to
$55,000 (Forensic Scientist or Zoologist/Wildlife Biologist with a Bachelor's
degree) to upwards of $70,000 (Biochemists and Biophysicists with Doctoral
degrees).
