2.2 Million people in America are diagonized with Epilepsy. It’s the 4th most common neurological problem in America. The largest privately owned pharmaceutical company in America wanted to prevent epileptic seizures by helping people track them. I developed a pitch, codename: Serenity, to engage with the user on a daily basis.
2. Why are our apps STILL complex…
even when so many people spend so
much time and money trying to make
them simple?
3.
4.
5. "If you look at the history of computing,
starting with the jacquard loom in
1801, humans have always had to
interact with machines in a really
abstract, complex way…”
6. “Machines still force us to come to them on their terms,
speaking their language… It’s about getting away from
the touchscreen, and interfacing with the devices
around us in more natural ways: haptics, computer
vision, voice control, and artificial intelligence…”
7. The next step is for machines to finally
understand us on our own terms, in our own
natural words, behaviors, and gestures…”
9. “Our design will look different. I’ll look like
databases and spreadsheets. As designers,
we will be required to become experts in
science, biology, and psychology to create
these experiences.”
10. Cool, that’s great Cody. Woopty freakin doo.
Ultimately, people pay us to make interfaces,
not experiences… right?
A good design is one with no design at all.
11. At least 2 in 3 people in America
own a smartphone.
12. 1 in 6 people are mostly dependent
on their phone for internet access.
14. All smart phone users under the age of 50
are extremely familiar with text messaging.
9 out of 10 people over the age of 50
use text messaging frequently.
15. Texts are the most effective and engaging
way to reach people.
16. Texts have a 90% read rate, or higher.
Emails, on average, are less than 20%.
20. I help patients with seizures log their data,
with the hopes that one day,
we will prevent seizures around the world.
Sure, I might seem human, but I’m a machine!
21. My creators didn’t want another app
treating people like users.
By talking to people like people,
we can treat them like a person.
22. My personality is very important,
with how I ask questions,
respond to answers,
and engage on a day-to-day.
24. You can come chat with me anywhere,
not limited by screen size or device.
25. When people chat with me,
all of their data is secured,
following HIPAA Compliance
and basic PHI encryption.
26. I might be simple like an infant to start,
but I’ll learn and get smarter.
Coaches could even integrate with me
so people can chat with other people.
