Cancer support service provides free mobile communication
1. This unique organisation aims to help lessen the economic and social isolation felt by many following a
cancer diagnosis, allowing them to keep in touch with family and friends.
The founders of simPal hope it will fill what they feel is an obvious gap in the cancer support market,
using individual and corporate donations to help them achieve their ambition of making the service
available to anyone currently affected by the disease in the UK.
Applications for assistance will be accepted via their website or freephone number and can be
completed either personally or on behalf of someone, with each request handled individually and no
‘one size fits all’ approach.
As well as 100% of the money donated being used to provide support through mobile communication,
simPal promises to offer a ‘listening ear’ and will be able to signpost to other services where appropriate.
The simPal service is the result of a dynamic partnership between, Blair Papworth, founder of C4C
Mobile and Chris Lewis, founder of Chris’s Cancer Community. Both have very personal experiences of
the impact of cancer in their lives. They wanted to improve the lives of people living with and beyond
cancer, and decided to collaborate, using their extensive experiences and contacts, to help others.
Donating is made easy via the website or simply calling the donation line and as every penny is spent
on providing this service, those giving can be assured that their generosity will have a real impact.
The service is currently operating throughout the UK, with plans to expand into Europe and America in
the near future.
— Chris Lewis (simPal Joint Founder, Chris’s Cancer Community Founder) —
“Since my own cancer diagnosis in 2007 I have seen at first hand the inequalities that the disease can
create. Via my own website and support work I have been helping people affected by cancer for many
years. The opportunity to work with Blair and C4C mobile to help people affected by cancer and
provide such an incredible service was just too good to resist.
We wanted to ensure we didn’t duplicate any existing service and could make a big impact for people
quickly. My experience showed me what was missing in the cancer support area and we want to
provide a personal tailored approach. We know that the simple things mean the most, and helping
people stay in touch is something we can do.”
