2. (2) Patient should be instructed to wear the
appliance for 24 hours a day and to remove the
appliance only while brushing and also during
contact sports and swimming.
(3) A high standard of oral hygiene should be
insisted upon to avoid the possibility of
enamel decalcification
3. (4) The patient should be instructed to clean
the appliance by brushing it with soap and
water.
Care should be taken while cleaning
so as not to bend / distort any component.
(5) It is usual to experience some discomfort
initially this will pass as you get used to
appliance.
4. (6) In case of pain or appliance damage,
patient must be told to report immediately
to the clinic.
(7) Patient having an appliance with screws
should be given instructions on how to
activate the screw.
5. (8) Patient should be instructed not to leave
the appliance out of the mouth for a long
period of time as it enhance chances of it
getting damaged or distorted.
(9) Care should also be taken to keep the
appliance away from pet animals when
the appliance is not being worn.
6. (10) Do not eat hard and sticky foods.
(11) Warn patient of initial difficulties in
acclimatizing to the appliance.
e.g. eating and speaking, and reassure that
after 48 hours or so these difficulties will
ameliorate.
(12) Ask if there are any questions about
appliance.
