Sustainability Coordinator Projects
Project 1: Climate Action Plan
• 4 GHG Emissions Inventories created for 2011-2014 emissions
• 69 sustainability programs revised and enhanced to meet GHG emissions reductions goal
• 30 page Climate Action Plan for Skyline College
Successful Strategies:
1. Engage with key stakeholders in person as much as possible
2. Identify and support champions at all levels – students, faculty, staff
3. Create relevant and engaging marketing – know the audience
4. Network, network, network!
Recommendations:
1. Become a signatory of the ACUPCC for GHG emissions
accountability
2. Assign Climate Action Plan implementation role to next
fellow/SMCCD employee
3. Continue Carpool Pilot Project until institutionalization of carpool
system

• GHG Emissions Inventory – a quantification
of GHG emissions from campus activities
using The Climate Registry’s CRIS and the
Campus Carbon Calculator tools. GHG
emissions inventories were conducted
using data collection methodologies, data
analysis with ArcGIS and Excel, and data
input.
• Emissions Reductions – review and revise
measures in the Sustainability Plan, and
determine best strategies for reducing
GHG emissions to reach reductions goal.
Project 2: Outreach and Marketing
• 3 student-led sustainability projects funded with $3,000 –
Carpool Weeks, Tap Water Campaign, Aquaponics
• 200 students educated and sustainably fed for Earth Day
• 75 carpoolers attracted and maintained during the 2 week
carpooling pilot project
• 85 students, faculty, and staff engaged at monthly SAN meetings
