Case Study C5269
Acoustically Insulated Test Chamber for a `Rotor Spin Rig Assembly' Test Rig
Process Details: Test Chamber for a global, UK based company specialising in the manufacture of new generation, fuel efficient
power systems for a range of aircraft including military transport, helicopters, fast jets and advanced civil aircraft in the Aerospace,
Defence & Security markets.
Scope of Work: To design, manufacture, deliver & install the Test Chamber, approximately 2.6m long x 1.6m wide x 2.5m high,
within the end users electro-mechanical systems design & development facility.
Design Considerations: -
• Extremely tight internal footprint for the rig, lube system and all other associated equipment.
• Heavy duty acoustically-insulated Test Chamber constructed as a one-piece unit with lifting points and to be fit for purpose in
providing a safe working environment for operational personnel.
• Extra wide, high performance, double-sealing, single-leaf, interlocked door with multi-point locking system and heavy duty door
stops, for personnel entry/egress & emergency exit, and for the loading/unloading of test pieces via a 1m extending/retractable
runway beam fitted with a SWL125kg electric hoist and drum reeler.
• Matching double-leaf doors provide access for the installation, removal and major maintenance requirements of the test rig, lube
system, electrical control cabinets, and the associated internal distribution boards & services.
• Forced ventilation system incorporating attenuated air inlets & outlets designed to extract high heat gains within test chamber,
enabling the equipment to operate in a normal manner, whilst maintaining the overall acoustic integrity of the test chamber.
• Chamber fitted with electrics, automatic lighting, interlocks, and fully sealed gland plates for services penetrations.
Acoustic Performance: The Test Chamber was constructed using an independently tested & certified panel system (in accordance
with BS EN ISO 15667 and BS EN ISO 717 international standards) to provide a noise reduction of 44 dB.
Acoustic Applications is the trading name of Xtron Systems Limited
