3. STEP 1: KNOW THE CHARACTER
• Your first step in picking a candidate is to know the basic personal
information and their educational background. This helps you to decide
what character you want in a leader.
Personal Profile
Know the Origin of the candidate.
Check the candidate’s Educational Background.
Consider the Recognition and Achievements of the candidate.
4. STEP 2: LEARN HOW THE CANDIDATE ACT
AS A LEADER
• Consider Political Experience as an earnest assurance that the political leaders
in the locality can properly discharge their duties as public officers.
• The political candidates are respectable and trustworthy because of their
character and good name.
Check if they provide an opportunity for the expression of sympathy or concern.
Pick the political candidate that is easy to run into or deal with.
Determine if you can easily relate to what a certain political candidate says and
shows.
5. STEP 3: TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE
PLATFORMS AND ABILITY
• You would want to pick a candidate that you agree with on the platforms
and issues.
Pick the candidate that matches your views and their views to different
issues.
Examine the platforms.
Be smart in knowing their leadership abilities.
6. STEP 4: OBSERVE THE CANDIDATE ON HOW
HE/SHE CAMPAIGNS
• You can tell a lot about a candidate by the way he campaigns.
Consider political candidates who show themselves personally in house-to-
house campaigns.
Assess the sincerity and dedication of the political candidate in fighting for a
particular cause.
Choose political candidates who are more visible or open for public scrutiny.
Identify the political candidate that talks about the problems and attends serious
cases at any given time.
7. STEP 5: ASK YOURSELF AGAIN
• Ask yourself these final questions:
Which candidate has the leadership qualities you are looking for?
Which candidate's view on the issues do you agree with the most?
Who ran the fairest campaign?
Which candidate demonstrated the most knowledge on issues?
Is the choice clear? If so, pick a candidate.
8. STEP 6: PICK A CANDIDATE
• Now that you have the basic steps to make a wise and informed
choice – DO SOMETHING!
Back that candidates you believe in.
Have a discussion with your family and friends about your candidate.
Don’t be afraid to ask tough questions at the candidates.
Don’t tolerate unfair campaign/election practices.
9. According to Rogers (2012), the very act of
voting, as well as the candidate or party
we vote for, may serve as a signal to
ourselves and to others about who we are
as citizens of a country.
10. YOUR CHOICE, YOUR VOTE
