Ancient Greece
fashion ….
Ancient Greek clothing was typically
homemade and the same piece of
homespun fabric that was used as a
type of garment, or blanket. From
Greek vase paintings and art
sculptures, I can tell that the fabrics
were intensely colored and usually
decorated with very complicated or
very detailed designs.

•

•

At the early Greek
festivals, the
actors, directors, and
dramatists were all the same
person. After some time, only
three actors were allowed to
perform in each play. Later
few no speaking roles were
allowed to perform on-stage.
Music was often played during
the chorus delivery of its lines.
Tragedy, comedy, and satyr
plays were the theatrical
forms.
Tragedy and comedy were
viewed as completely separate
genres
Musical Instruments
• The ancient Greeks had a
special place for music in
their culture. It was
commonly believed that
music nurtured a man's
relationship with the Gods.
In fact, many ancient Greek
myths included musical
instruments, especially the
lyre. It was believed that
this instrument was
invented by the god Apollo.
Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is myths and teachings that belong to the ancient
Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and
the origins and significance of their own culture practices. It was a part
of religion in ancient Greece.
Greek Gods

Aphrodite is the Greek
goddess of
love, beauty, pleasure, an
d procreation. She is the
daughter of Zeus.

Artemis is the virgin
Goddess of the hunt,
the wilderness, animals,
child birth and plague. She
Is the daughter of Zeus and
The twin of Apollo.

Athena is the
goddess of
wisdom, inspiration,
civilization, law and
justice, warfare, mat
hematics, strength, s
trategy, the arts, and
skills.
Ancient Greece
Olympic Games
•

The Olympic Games
were a series of athletic
competitions among
representatives of citystates of Ancient Greece.
They were held in honor
of Zeus, and the Greeks
gave them a
mythological origin.
Historical records
indicate that they began
in 776 BC in Olympia.
They continued to be
celebrated when Greece
came under Roman rule.
Art & Architecture
• Architecture in ancient
Greece: Greek life was
dominated by religion and
so it is not surprising that
the temples of ancient
Greece were the biggest
and most beautiful. They
also had a political purpose
as they were often built to
celebrate civic power and
pride, or offer thanksgiving
to the patron deity of a city
for success in war.
