Learning involves acquiring knowledge and developing skills. Employees acquire
knowledge through formal and informal training activities and development
experiences.
At a basic level, learning, which includes training and development is needed to
ensure that workers who are recruited and selected are able to do their jobs well
and that they will be prepared for future jobs in the company.
What is Training?
 It is the development and delivery of information people will use in their
jobs.
What is Development?
 Refers to the experiences that make people better
What is Human Resource Development?
 It is the use of training and career development efforts to improve the
performance of the individual or group as well as overall organizational
effectiveness.
 It develops the competencies that employees need to perform the current
jobs and prepares them for future roles.
 This helps employees develop their personal and organizational skills,
knowledge, and abilities

 Leonard Nadler
 Doctor and a pioneer in the field of HRD
How is it important?
 Increase employee satisfaction
 Help them perform in a higher level
 Better enable them to achieve the company’s goals
Types of Training
 Technical Training – teach new employees
 Quality Training – prevent, detect, and eliminate non quality items
 Skills Training – focuses on skills an employee needs
 Soft Skills – train on how to be better at communicating or a good customer
service
 Professional Training – given to obtain certification
 Team Training – empowers teams to improve decision making, problem
solving, and team development skills
 Managerial Training – to get someone ready to take on a managerial role
 Safety Training – to ensure org is meeting the OSHA standards to secure
disaster risk reduction
