Reference for Fei Chen
I was Fei Chen’s dissertation supervisor during 2013 and in this capacity I became familiar
with his capacity for research, his ability to undertake independent work, and to synthesise
complex academic concepts in addressing problems in business and management. Fei Chen’s
key strength is his ability to apply creative solutions to practical problems, based on well
researched ideas in marketing, using a wide range of statistical and theoretical tools
effectively. His ability to extrapolate from his results and use research findings to recommend
appropriate courses of action shows that he has the capacity for either academic or practical
work. In particular, his use of data analysis in examining consumer research problems,
showed good attention to detail and precision.
During this period of research, Fei Chen has demonstrated both a capacity for hard work and
to think a problem through with passion and enthusiasm for the topic. He has an interest in a
range of software and applications used in marketing and has used these skills in providing a
professional approach to examining and presenting data. In other courses he has shown an
ability to work effectively in group work in varied teams, and to communicate well amongst
people of different nationalities within a range of research contexts. He has an attitude for
marketing and has expressed a clear understanding of areas of business such as finance,
banking and sales, and I think he would bring a variety of strengths in a capacity that
reflected his work interest.
He is also highly motivated and proactive, with a willingness to learn new things and to work
hard on improving his skill set and I have been impressed by his ability to learn very quickly.
I feel that Fei Chen would be a great asset to have and I strongly recommend him to your
organisation. If you would like to discuss any details relating to Fei Chen’s appropriateness to
a specific post, I would be happy for you to contact me to give further details.
Yours faithfully
