4. Jaws Analysis
Editing – It is slow paced at first which creates the image of a happy
romantic movie with the couple having fun. This soon changes as Jaws
gets closer to her, the editing speeds up to very short clips. This creates
tension and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat as we wait for her
to be attacked.
Camera – Tracking shots follow the two as they run across the beach, this
emphasizes their happiness. Point of view shots from under the water as if
we are the shark create tension as we don’t know when “we” will attack.
Wide angle shots are used when she is being attacked. These show how
alone she is and how she has no hope of being saved.
Sound – Classic Jaws music as he approaches her creates tension as it
speeds up. We know something bad will happen when that music comes
on. We she first gets in the water there is no music, this confuses us
because we aren’t used to silence in a film, we know that something will
happen during this almost spooky time.
