This
tutorial
is
for
individuals
who
want
to
improve
the
effectiveness
of
their
PowerPoint®
presentations
using
Appear
and
Dim
animation
features.
Appear
and
Dim
is
a
custom
animation
tool
that
allows
you
to
make
text,
graphics,
and
objects
on
a
presentation
slide
appear
or
dim
with
a
mouse
click.

Before
You
Begin
Make
sure:
• You
are
using
Microsoft®
PowerPoint®
2008
for
Mac
• You
have
a
saved
PowerPoint®
presentation
open
on
your
screen
to
work
with
• You
have
your
Toolbox
open
Opening
Your
Toolbox
The
Toolbox
feature
puts
all
of
the
tools
you’ll
need
to
format
and
edit
your
presentation.
Simply
click
on
the
icon
at
the
top
of
the
screen
and
a
box
will
appear
with
quick
links
to
those
tools.
Once
it
is
opened,
the
Toolbox
is
called
the
Formatting
Palette.

Selecting
Text,
Shapes,
and
Graphics

on
View
in
the
toolbar
across
the
top
of
your
screen.
Make
sure
that
Normal
is
selected.

apply

side
bar
on

Effects

select
a
different
entrance
feature.
Simply
click
the
Undo
icon
in
the
menu
bar
at
the
top
of
the
screen
to
undo
the
application
of
the
effect.

play

Bulleted
text
will
have
the
Appear
animation.
However,
secondary
bullets
and
wrapping
lines
(lines
that
weren’t
created
by
hitting
return
at
the
end)
will
appear
with
their
associated
first
bullet.
You
can
make
any
bullet
or
sentence
appear
on
click.
Note:
In
order
to
add
Appear
animation
to
sentences
not
in
bullet
form,
you
must
edit
them
by
hitting
return
at
the
end
of
the
previous
line.
To
make
secondary
bullets
appear
on
click
1. Click
on
the
Content
Placeholder
for
that
item.

Start
button.

The
objects
you
select
to
appear
are
automatically
arranged
in
order
of
how
they
are
presented
or
in
order
of
selection.
You
can
change
the
arrangement
of
presentation.
To
change
order
of
appearance
for
text,
objects,
or
images
1. Highlight
the
Content
Placeholder
for
the
item
you
want
to
modify.
2. Click
the
Up
arrow
or
the
Down
arrow
to
change
the
item’s
order
position.

The
Appearance
animation
is
set
to
a
predetermined
length
of
time.
This
timing
can
be
altered.
Note:
Use
caution
in
applying
the
Timing
feature
as
actual
presentation
execution
can
be
altered.
We
recommend
using
the
On
Click
Feature
instead.
To
modify
Appearance
animation
timing
1. Highlight
the
Content
Placeholder
of
the
item
you
want
to
modify.
2. Click
on
the
Timing
button
at
the
bottom
of
the
Custom
Animation
panel.
3. Enter
the
number
of
seconds
you
want
the
item’s
appearance
to
delay
after
clicking.

you
do

want

modify
the
animation
timing,
then
skip

Dim
feature
is
available
only

entrance
effects
animations.
It
deemphasizes
items
as
you
click
to
make
other
items
appear.
It
can
be
used
on
text,
images,
and
objects.
Dim
does
not
automatically
set
up
when
you
select
an
entrance
animation.

Checking
Application

As
with
any
other
document
or
presentation,
checking
the
layout
and
functionality
is
essential.
Before
saving
changes
you’ve
made,
do
the
following:
A. With
the
slide
you
added
animation
to
still
selected,
enter
into
presentation
mode.
B. Left
click
through
the
animations
to
make
sure
that
animation
order,
timing,
and
dimming
features
are
correct.

C. If
the
features
are
not
correct,
exit
presentation
mode
and
repeat
the
steps
necessary
to
address
the
errors.
