2. Projecting Odisha as India’s emerging Sports
Capital, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik
announced setting up of Kalinga International
Sports City in Bhubaneswar, making it enable to
bid for most international competitions like
Commonwealth and Asian Games.
3. Chief Minister said this while expressing the
State’s confidence on the concluding day of the
22nd Asian Athletic Championship (AAC).
4. Stating that Odisha has been able to make
landmark, Mr.Patnaik said the stadium was
prepared world class within 90 days, the highest
number of athletes participated in the event, the
greatest medals tally that India has ever made.
5. “But, what touched me most, was that every
person in Odisha wanted to be in the stadium to
witness the history in the making. The
enthusiasm of Lord Jagannath’s land was
unparalleled. This has paved paved the way to
new beginning while the championship
culminates,” a delighted Chief Minister said.
6. Naveen also gave an emotional farewell to the
participants of the AAC 2017 by saying that
Odisha has links with all the asian countries.
7. “I thank each and every one of you. I hope your
stay in Odisha has been memorable. Odisha the
soul of incredible India looks forward to
welcoming you with your family and friends,” the
Chief Minister said.
8. Naveen had taken special interest in the AAC,
2017 and ensured that the competition ended
smoothly without any difficulties despite bad
weather in some part of the game.
9. The school students of Bhubaneswar had
participated in the AAC in great numbers.The
Chief Minister announced that Monday will
holiday for all Government and Private schools of
Bhubaneswar.
10. The crowd in Kalinga Stadium was also equally
active when they cheered the athletes whichever
country he or she belonged.
11. The people kept on clapping in time when the
persons fighting in the track required. It was
amazing for the entire state as people here do
not know much about athletics though they are
well versed with cricket and hockey.
12. The closing ceremony though was not so
glittering as it had been on the inaugural
celebration, dance, music, light, sound, laser
shows having blend of the Odisha’s culture and
tradition become prominent.
