3. WHAT IS A HORROR GENRE & WHAT MAKES IT?
The horror genre details the more disturbed side of film and media and
tests viewers and their levels of fright of curiosity. The genre includes
situations that a normal viewer cannot refer to, the unknown, in which
then scares them. Music is probably the most important feature within a
horror film as it builds tension, leading the viewer to a tense situation.
Generally set within a dark environment, not showing the viewer much
information about the surroundings, the unknown is what puzzles and
scares the mind, which is why it is so popular.
4. WHAT IS AN ACTION GENRE & WHAT MAKES IT?
The action genre keeps the audience sat up in their seats, giving them
things to think about and follow the story. During the storytelling,
physical action takes place (chases, fights, races etc.) the story in these
movies generally revolve around a hero that has a goal, but has trouble
along the route of achieving it. This genre is popular because the
audience always has to think ahead, wondering in anticipation whether
their predictions come true within the actual film itself. The main actor
is normally male, however some films may switch this concept around
and make the main actor female. This gives way to a whole new world of
possibilities, giving the audience a role model almost, with films such
as tomb raider and kill bill giving way to a huge industry of reversed
gender roles.
5. WHAT IS THE CRIME GENRE & WHAT MAKES IT?
The crime genre represents both good and evil in an environment where
basically anything that can go wrong for the protagonist, does. The
criminal mastermind is shown as a bad person, no matter what he/she
does, and the film itself revolves around the rise and fall of the criminal
themselves. The protagonist is shown regularly, linking in with the
criminal. The action is put together in away that leads the viewer on a
trail of breadcrumbs so to speak, and leaves them with only one
conclusion, generally wrong, with a major plot twist at the end of the
movie, Confusing the audience.
