1. As for myself, I’ve learned a lot in these five months. I’ve learned to live in a whole different culture. I’ve learned
that electricity is a privilege. I’ve learned about dozens of different types of peoples groups. I’ve learned about
refugees. I’ve learned about six Kurdish words even!!! But most of all I’ve learned that if I follow God’s plan rather
than my own, I can do great things for others.
I’m reaching out today for your support. I’ve been invited to teach one more year here at Wellspring Coop. This
time I will have two of my same students from kindergarten in first grade. One of my kids is returning to Chile and
the other to Finland. I have started up my GoFundMe account. You were kind enough to support me last year,
would you be willing to do it again? Or if this is your first time, please consider supporting me for one year.
There are several ways; through GoFundMe gofundme.com/d8hpupbc (I get 80% of your gift) in a one-time gift or
consider monthly gifts. You can mail a check to me, again one-time or monthly. Write me for the address. When
I’m home this summer I will set up an account with US Bank where you’ll be able to make direct deposits.
Five Months. I’ve been in Kurdistan for five months. And it’s been nearly a
year since my retirement. It still amazes me that, A) it went this fast and B)
here I am. Half a world away from my last lifetime!!
With that in mind I wanted to bring you up to date. Due to your support
I’ve been able to take this volunteer job teaching school to the children of
International Workers here in Kurdistan.
They all have come with a purpose to shine His light into the darkness. We
here at the home school coop work with up to 15 grade school children.
from 8am-2:30pm Sunday through Thursday.
During a regular day I teach kindergarten to four students. Twice a week I
teach art appreciation to all 15 students. Unlike the kindergarten I attended
or even that my own children attended, this is a full day math, reading and
writing program.
To date my four children have learned to read simple sentences, sound out
words, count smoothly to 60, add and most recently subtract in only five
months. I’m astounded by their sponge like little minds and their joy of
learning something new.
Art has been interesting as well. The first
day we watch slides and learn about one of
our Masters from Van Gogh to Andy
Warhol. Included in this program are
practice sheets so they can get an idea of
how the artist worked his art. The second
day we actually do one of the prints for
ourselves.
Please consider partnering with me for one year. To learn about new places and peoples,
be sure to follow my FaceBook page called “Sands of Time”. I look forward to seeing
everyone this summer!
I thank God for all of you.
