This year the student has learned many new things across different subjects. In maths, they learned how to multiply decimals and find the area and perimeter of shapes. In writing, they discovered techniques like using adverbs and interesting sentence starters to make their writing more engaging. Their favorite inquiry topic was natural disasters, and they enjoyed creating and presenting PLTs to learn about inquiry topics in a fun way. The student also learned new art skills like directional painting and tried different styles like graffiti and caricatures. Literacy included enjoyable contracts and literature circles. Religious education covered topics like the Jesse Tree. For sport, interschool competitions were fun. Collaborative groups provided both enjoyable and challenging experiences, and the student thinks they should
Fertile Ground is a Canadian NGO working in Assam, India. Our primary goal is to help farmers, tea growers and families grow healthy food and crops without relying on chemical inputs.
Fertile Ground's projects support and celebrate the culture and traditions of Assam, and we welcome volunteers and visitors to our demonstration garden and resource centre located in the town of Digboi, close to the Assam/Burma border.
This presentation was prepared by a group of young people from our community here in the Comox Valley who have raised money for school supplies and toys for children living in some of the remote villages Fertile Ground is working in.
Once a year we all come together in the Hall - twenty two classes from Primary 1 to Primary 7 - for our End of Year Assembly, led by Headteacher Mrs Alison Noble.

From the Fischbowl blog "PB&J" Thanks to Ms. Smith and her English students for sharing their thoughts about the infusion of technology, autonomy and trust into the learning process.
2. This year I have learnt a lot in maths. I have learnt how to
multiply decimals. The rule with multiplying decimals is that
however many decimals are in the question that is how many
decimals will be in the answer. I have also learnt how to find out
the area and perimeter of a shape. Eg: To find out the area of a
triangle you times the base by the height and then halve the
answer because it is only half of a square or rectangle.
3. This year in writing I have discovered new ways to make my
writing more interesting.
Some of the things I have learnt to use…
• Adverbs
• Prefixes
• Pronouns
• Interesting sentence starters
Writing has been really fun and I enjoyed all the 100 word
challenges.
4. This year my favourite inquiry topic would have to be natural
disasters. I have learnt a lot of new facts and really enjoyed the
PLT’s that we have been working on. I think that the PLT’s
everyone has done this year have all been up to a very high
standard. I would think that this is because a lot of people enjoy
presenting and working on PLT’s. I certainly think that it is a really
fun way to learn about what our inquiry. I think that the inquiry
topics we have learnt on have been very interesting.
5. During this years art I have learnt some interesting news skills. One
of the skills that has helped me is that when you are painting and
colouring to always colour in the same direction. One of my
favourite pieces of artwork I have done this year is the Graffiti art. I
also enjoyed doing the caricatures. I have enjoyed doing the
serialism art because there are really no boundaries on what you
do because the art can get as crazy as you want it to be.
6. Literacy this year has been fun but challenging at the same time. In
my opinion the literacy contracts have been really enjoyable. It lets
your choose a small activity to work on and you get to choose from
a fairly big range of activities. Another way of doing our literacy is
the literature circles. I thought that this was an interesting way to
work on literacy. I thought that it was really good how you would
report back to the rest of your group in a different way every day.
7. The religion we have done this year has been interesting. The
posters that we recently did on advent have been really fun so
have the phrases about a certain word we did. I thought that this
was a really fun activity because you got to here about everyone's
interesting phrases. I have learnt a lot of new facts. I have learnt
that there was a Jesse Tree. The Jesse tree is a tree where all of
Jesus’ relatives are on. And each of the relatives have a symbol.
Eg: A rainbow is for Noah because God promised to not flood the
whole world again.
8. This years sport against other schools has been so fun. I really
enjoyed participating in…
• Interschool footy
• Basketball round robin
• Kanga cricket
• Athletics
• Cross country
I am really satisfied on what I have achieved in sport through
school. And I think that our school was very successful in our
interschool sport. I am looking forward to playing again next year.
9. In this years collaborative groups I have experienced some fun
and challenging times. Eg: For the fun time I have had fun making
the big poster as a group. And the challenging time was when I
had to draw a portrait of someone else's face with my right hand.
I learnt a lot of new facts about other people that I have barely
spoken to. I also enjoyed working with other people in other and
younger classes. I think that this was a good idea and we should
also do it next year.
