TRINITY – Once again, we had a
smaller turnout of animals at the auction
on Saturday. Regardless, this year‘s 64th
Annual Community Fair was still a
success.
A total of 44 animals and one cake
were up for sale, netting local FFA
and 4-H students a total of $61,705 in
sales. That figure includes the “add on”
dollars donated to individual students
either before or after the sale to boost
their earnings.
At last year’s auction, a total of 50
livestock projects sold for $63,150.
The grand champion steer exhibited
by Cheyenne Blake of the Trinity 4-H
Youth earn $61,705 from fair auction
was purchased by Affordable Plumbing
for $5,000. While the purchase price
was up from the $4,800 paid for the
2012 champion, it fell short of the record
$5,200 paid by the 7-11 Social Club for
the top steer in 2009.
Although there was plenty of rainfall
this year as well, the fair and activities
were not hit quite so hard. The parade
started at 10 am and the day had started
out beautifully. Saturday evening there
was some lightning and rain that shut
the rides down for about half an hour.
The carnival crew allowed an extra half
hour on the armbands to make up the
difference. It seemed as though there
were fewer people than years past, the
carnival was still a better turnout than
last year.
In addition to the livestock entries, the
fair included the annual queen’s contest,
theLil’MissSeptemberPageant,musical
entertainment and exhibits that included
home baking, canning and art.
All kinds of food and arts and crafts
booths also were located around the
Trinity Community Center grounds for
the enjoyment of fair goers.
In the 2013 Trinity Fair Queen’s
contest, Trinity High School senior
Hailey Burke, daughter of Shane
Williford was crowned as the winner
Saturday.
Other senior girls who competed for
the crown were Sarah Birkes, Sarah
Ortiz, Ashley Dobbs, Bambi Ackley,
Hailey Pruitt and Laura Lopez.
While the high school girls took part
in the queen’s contest, the Lil’ Miss
September Pageant hosted by Avalon
Place Nursing Home attracted the
younger crowd.
The overall winner wasAshlee Smith
who competed in the 6-9 age group.

TRINITY— On Wednesday
Sept. 25, Emmitt Asbury was
arrested after being captured
by K-9 Mundra.
Deputy Pickel, Deputy
Sikes, K-9 Deputy Mundra and
Sheriff Woody Wallace, with
the Trinity County Sheriff’s
office responded to Jungle
Village sub-division off FM

Deputy Sikes opened the

the K-9 would be released into
the attic. At that point Asbury

ASHBURY
TRINITY — on Tuesday,
Sept. 24, the Trinity Police
Department sent out a notice
that they are coming down on
seat belt requirements.
Chief of Police, Steve Jones,
reported that a number of
citizens are not restraining their
children properly when going
back and forth to school.
In the notice Jones stated,
“When I take my children to
school, I am seeing a lot of
parents that do not have their
childrensecuredbyaseatbeltor
safety seat. I have also received
several complaints from other
concerned parents.”
According to the Texas
Department of Public Safety,
children that are 8 years old or
younger, and shorter than 4’9”
should be in a passenger safety
seat system. Children that are
older than 8 years or taller
than 4’9” should be properly

seat belted as any adult would.
Children under 13 years of age
should be buckled in the back
seat.
The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration
suggests that if you have a child
sitting in the front seat it is best
to move the seat back as far
from the airbag as possible. It
is also important to do this with
short or small framed drivers
regardless of age.
TheTrinityPoliceDepartment
will be targeting this violation
for the next several weeks.
They are warning parents to
have their children properly
restrained in the vehicle at all
times.
Acitationforfailingtouphold
this requirement can cost up to
$344. Deputies are also asking
parents to encourage their
children to be properly buckled
in and to explain that it is for
the child’s safety.
