TRINITY -- The teachers and
educational support at Lansber-
ry Elementary School is excited
to announce their participation
in ‘Read Across America’ and
is encouraging parents or guard-
ians to come in and participate
as well.
They are inviting adults to
come in on Nov. 15 from 8-10:45
am and 12:45-3 pm and sit down
to read with the children.
The National Education As-
sociation has their Read Across
America literacy project all year
long. It encourages readers both
young and old to celebrate read-
ing.

Werner Public Library is hold-
ing their Annual Story Time on
Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 pm.
The fun will include stories,
crafts, games and prizes.
The event is free of charge and
the public is invited to attend.

TRINITY — The Trinity
Peninsula Chamber of
Commerce will hold its 17th
AnnualChristmasCelebration
on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9
am – 9 pm. This year’s theme
will be ‘Light up Trinity’.
Therewillbeentertainment,
good food, and a wide variety
of arts and craft booths for
shopping.
The vendor applications
have been sent out. Anyone
who would like to participate
may pick up an entry form
from the chamber building or
Julia’s Downtown building at
the corner of Main and Robb.
The booth spaces are free!
First ones to sign up get the
first covered booths spaces
on the sidewalk, a few inside
spaces are reserved for the
elderly. If you do not sign
up you may not have booth
space.
Santa Claus will be at 107
West Main St., from 2-4 pm
for parents wanting to take
Christmas pictures. Pictures
Chamber presents
‘Light up Trinity’
will be taken again after the
parade with Santa in front of
the Post Office after the tree
lighting ceremony.
The lighting of the Christmas
tree will be held in front of the
post office, Saturday, Dec. 7,
at 7 pm immediately following
the parade. Prayers and singing
will be featured at this time
along with the Trinity High
School Band performing.
The parade participants are
asked to line up at Avalon at
4:30 pm for the judging and
refreshments. As usual the
parade will be led by the Trinity
Volunteer Firefighters in their
fire trucks and escorted by the
Trinity Police Department.
Each participant will be asked
to display a placecard on their
truck, float, or trailer to make
announcing entries easier.

be available soon for those who
would like to sing, play, dance,
be in the parade or have booth

Vegetable
Giveaway
TRINITY - The Loaves and
Fishes Food Pantry-Trinity will
hold their Annual Fruit and Veg-
etable Giveaway on Dec. 14
They will set up at the Trinity
Volunteer Fire Department and
start giving out food at 8 am and
continue until it is all gone.
They are asking for the public
to bring their own bag/box for
carry-out.
Any donations towards this
cause is appreciated.
TRINITY — On Saturday,
Nov. 9 around 1 pm the
owner of the Gracie’s One
Stop Grocery on the corner of
Hwy 94 and FM 356 reported
someone stole a six-pack of
beer. The store clerk reported
the suspects left in a sliver
Chrysler 300.

attorney Cecil E. Berg has
announced he will seek the
Republican Party’s nomination
for the office of 258th District
Court judge in the March 2014
primary election.
Berg is seeking the position
that is being vacated by the
resignation of District Judge
Elizabeth Coker. Livingston
attorney Shelly Bush Sitton
also has announced her
candidacy for the position in
the Republican Party Primary.
The 258th Judicial District
serves Polk, San Jacinto and
Trinity counties. Filing for a
position on the party primary
electionballotopenedSaturday,
Nov. 9, and will continue
through Dec. 9.
In announcing his plans to
run for the judge’s position,
Berg said he also is applying
to Gov. Rick Perry, asking to
be appointed to the office once
Coker’s resignation takes effect
on Dec. 6. The governor has the
option of appointing someone to
fill the vacant judicial post until
the November 2014 general
election.
Until the position is filled
either by appointment or
election, visiting judges will fill
the vacancy.

TRINITY — Richard E.
Chamberlain of Trinity is
seeking another four-year term
as County Commissioner of
Precinct 2, in the March 4, 2014
primary election. Chamberlain
will run on the Republican ticket
as he did in 2010.
Since then he has
accomplished several things;
one more importantly was
to secure additional funding
for county-maintained roads.
He accomplished that with
the Hurricane Ike Round 2.2
Community Development
Block Grant program that threw
$3.8 million into the lap of the
County.
Precinct 2 has a $1 million
share from the grant and has the
projects going out for bid within
the next 30-60 days.
His office has worked on
holding the line of property
tax rates, supporting law
enforcement and emergency
services, prudent budget
management, promoting
teamwork and cooperation
between commissioners and
court officials.

Today, Senator Robert Nichols
(R-Jacksonville) announced his
bid for re-election for Texas
Senate District 3. The district
covers 19 counties including the
greater part of East Texas and
Montgomery County.
“Serving the people of Senate
District 3 is a tremendous
honor,” said Nichols. “I ask for
their support so we can continue
the work of making government
smaller, more efficient and more
accountable.”
Senator Nichols seeks another term
Nichols, first elected in 2006,
has a strong conservative record
focused on limited government
and representing the district’s
interests. He authored and
passed legislation to reduce
government spending, protect
landowners, encourage free-
markets and reduce fraud.
During his time with the Sunset
Advisory Committee, he was
able to help eliminate six state
agencies which saved the tax
payers $161.9 million. In his

TRINITY — Nov. 2 at
approximately 2 am, officers
responded to the Charlie Mae’s
Club on the corner of Pegoda
and Pinecrest streets following
a complaint. Two male suspects
were allegedly shooting at each
other in the parking lot.
