2. Definition of Tundra
Tundra is an area of full of mountains found
in cold regions, mostly north of the Arctic
Circle or above the timberline on high
mountains. Tundra is known for large
stretches of bare ground and rock and for
patchy mantles of low vegetation such as
mosses, herbs, and small shrubs. This
surface supports a small but unique variety
of animals.
4. The Arctic Willow
The Arctic willow, is a tiny willow. It is adapted
to survive in Arctic conditions, specifically
tundras. The Arctic willow enjoys cold
climates, which makes the tundra a perfect
place for it as the temperatures starts from -70
degrees F to 20 degrees F.
5. Arctic Poppy
The arctic poppy is a plant in the poppy
family that prefers dry soils. The stem is
thin and has fuzzy hair, the flower has
four large, colorful petals.
Blooms only last a few days but with
good care, the entire stand will flourish
with flowers for three months or more.
6. Cotton grass
Cotton grass is slender, small feathery grass
like leaves. The plant resembles a cotton
looking structure and shape. The seed heads
are covered in a dense fluffy mass of cotton
which can be carried by the wind for dispersal.
The mass of fibers also has a purpose of
trapping solar radiation to keep the plant
warm.
9. Arctic Fox
The Arctic fox is from Canidae family
which is a dog like family with wolfs,
coyotes and many other animals.
The arctic fox is a hardy animal that can
survive cold arctic weathers down to as
low as-58'F. It has furry soles, short ears
and a short muzzle.
10. Polar Bears
Polar bears are well known animal through
out the globe and is very popular in the
arctic region. It has a have a thick layer of
body fat that help them with the freezing
temperatures of the arctic. The polar bear
is part of the bear family (of course) is full
of different bears such as honey bear, sun
bear and other kinds of bears.
11. Arctic Lemmings
The arctic lemming is a very cute animal
and is commonly found in Russia and
parts of the arctic region. it's part of the
Cricetidae family along with hamsters,
rats and mice. The lemming is well
adapted to the snowy and cold weather of
tundras in the arctic.
