2. HISTORY IN THE MAKING
• 1973: The first mobile call was made in New York
• 1989: Dial up was created
• 1990: HTML was designed
• 2002: Camera phones came onto the scene making the sales of 2003 nearly
80 million
• 2004: Facebook was created
• 2006: Twitter was created
• 2007: The iPhone craze begins
• 2010: Instagram was created
3. CELLPHONES
The first cell phone was created in 1973 and the cellphone craze
began.
Smartphones have become something that nearly everyone has in
2014. From Apple to Samsung, there is a phone for everyone and every
need.
People depend on having their phones and have made them an
essential for everyday use. Many households don’t have landlines
because of this.
“Three objects were considered essential across all participants,
cultures and genders: keys, money and mobile phone.”
– Jan Chipchase, Nokia
4. VOICE COMMAND IN 2024
• Caitlynn wakes up for work at 5:00am. She claps her hands and
begins to hear her “Get Ready” playlist from her cellphone. Voice or
Sound command is a major requirement for technology in 2024.
• Doug walks in from a long day and wants to watch TV. He says, “Go
to channel 115.” His television turns on and goes to the specified
channel.
• Cindy wants to look up a recipe while cooking dinner. On her cabinet
is a built in device that uses voice command and she can continue
cooking while looking up what she needs.
• Ease and accessibility is a major part of technology in 2024.
5. THE INTERNET AND EDUCATION
The internet has become a staple in school systems. An
education is a valued thing and is taken very seriously. Schools
have resulted to having tutoring sessions for students which
consist of online programs to help struggling students. Tutoring
websites are booming and providing students with at home help.
“According to the Federal Communications Commission, 97
percent of schools across the country had Internet connectivity
as of 2010 (FCC, 2010)”
6. INTERNET EDUCATION IN 2024
• A teacher has an hour of preparation time for lesson plans. In
order for her to do that she needs something that can occupy
her class that is educational. She has a system that shows a
hologram of her at the front of the classroom. It is programed
to teach the next lesson. Students save questions for the end of
the lecture and once it is done, the teacher shuts off the system
and answers questions.
7. SOCIAL MEDIA
• Social Media has exploded over the years and has become a
source for many different avenues. Someone post a picture on
Instagram of what they are doing that day. From the food they
eat to a picture of the car they drive, this can make them
hundreds of dollars each day due to people “liking” a picture.
Social Media has given people access to staying home and
making a living off of being themselves.
8. SONAR IN VEHICLES IN 2024
You are driving down the highway with out any issue. Everyone is
driving the speed limit and no traffic is in sight. Your car has a
system that has sonar capabilities and it alerts you that 10 miles
ahead is a 5 car pileup and a 1.5 hour traffic stand still. The
sonar system and GPS can take you a different route and help
you avoid the traffic.
9. USES AND GRATIFICATIONS THEORY
THIS THEORY HAS FIVE CATEGORIES
1. COGNITIVE NEEDS-TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE
2. AFFECTIVE NEEDS-SATISFY EMOTIONAL NEEDS
3. PERSONAL INTEGRATIVE NEEDS-OUR SELF-ESTEEM NEED
4. SOCIAL INTEGRATIVE NEEDS-OUR SOCIAL NEED TO STAY IN TOUCH AND
SOCIALIZE WITH THOSE WE LOVE.
5. TENSION FREE NEEDS-OUR SENSE OF ESCAPE FROM STRESS
MANY USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN ESCAPE FROM REALITY OR A PLACE TO
RETREAT FROM THE CHAOS.
10. ROGER’S DIFFUSION OF INNOVATIONS
• 1) Knowledge – person becomes aware of an innovation and has some idea of
how it functions
• 2) Persuasion – person forms a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward the
innovation
• 3) Decision – person engages in activities that lead to a choice to adopt or reject
the innovation
• 4) Implementation – person puts an innovation into use
• 5) Confirmation – person evaluates the results of an innovation-decision already
made
An example of this process is the explosion of technology over the years. Social Media
is a prime example of this process and how crucial it can be to get your product out.
Even the use of YouTube and using it to promote your product or sponsoring people to
get the information out.
11. SOCIAL INFORMATION PROCESS
“THE SOCIAL INFORMATION PROCESSING THEORY EXAMINES THE NATURE OF
ONLINE RELATIONSHIPS FORMED THROUGH WORK, SCHOOL OR SOCIAL
SETTINGS. RESEARCH THAT SUPPORTS THIS THEORY INDICATES THAT EVEN
IF THE INITIAL CONTACT BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS IS TASK-ORIENTED, SUCH AS
IN THE CASE OF AN ONLINE GROUP PROJECT FOR SCHOOL, MEMBERS WILL IN
TIME ALSO DEVELOP SOCIAL BONDS.”
WE CAN CONNECT WITH PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WITHOUT MEETING
FACE TO FACE. THIS CAN ALLOW SOME PEOPLE TO TRULY BE THEMSELVES
DUE TO THE FACT THE STRESS OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS IS GONE.
12. YEAR 2024
VOICE
RECOGNITION
This is a topic that we could see in
homes in the future. From turning
on our lights to turning on our
cars via a key pad in our homes.
Sonar in cars:
To check wrecks ahead in traffic
and plan alternate routes.
INTERNET
Google glass will be a major trend
and truly hands free option.
The speed of the internet will be
incredible and even more
accessible.
We will be able to access the WIFI
from anywhere.
Holograms will be used for
lectures or Skype. You could be in
the room with family yet
thousands of miles away.
EVERYDAY
MONITIORING
We will be able to have even more
at home monitoring systems to
monitor our health. Your mirror
could take a scan to test if your
dehydrated to your mattress
weighing you. It is an endless
amount of possibilities.
Robots
We use robots in factories and
much more but they will be what
our production lines look like.
