MARKET WRAP
Indian markets surged up. Nifty, Sensex went up by 1.46% and 1.47%.
Wall Street traded mixed over uncertain global macros and earnings data.
Asia-Pacific markets remained mixed. GBP Retail Sales at 2.6% (MoM).
Indian markets headed northward good domestic earning data and macroeconomic
numbers. Global markets too traded low amidst weak sentiments. US Fed's Lockhart
gives cautious backing to more quantitative easing policy cuts. Nikkei had biggest drop
in five months on strong yen. Asian-Pacific markets stocks fall on weak US employment
report. US Unemployment Rate at 6.7% (MoM). US Core retail Sales at 0.7%. Nifty is
expected to be range bound and will move within the spread of 6340 to 6040 level.
Indian markets closed higher over better then estimated domestic data. The rally was
largely driven by new gas pricing policy, rupee appreciation, corporate earnings and
hopes of no hike in policy rates. The WPI inflation eased to 6.16 per cent for the month
of December as against 7.52 per cent in November, falling to its lowest since July 2013,
reinforcing expectations the RBI will keep interest rates on hold. Nifty went up by 90
points, closed at 6261.65. However, Sensex down by 305 points, closed at 21063.62.
World markets traded firm on the back of mixed global economic data. Europe went up
with CAC going up by 1.81%, DAX by 2.85% and FTSE by 1.30%. However, US
markets traded mixed with DJIA going up by 0.13%, NASDAQ by 0.55% while S & P
500 down by 0.20%. Asian indices traded with a mixed bag of sentiments over mixed
economic data; Nikkei went down by 1.12%, KLSE down by 0.74% while KOSPI went
up by 0.31%, Straits Times went up by 0.11% and Hang Seng by 1.26% respectively.
