1. Progression from Preliminary Task
EvaluationQuestion#7
Our preliminary task was a pretty shaky start into the world of creating a media project. We aimed
way too high with our ideas for certain shots and endedup with a final project consisting of wobbly
shots, poor lighting and a pretty mediocre final edit. Added to this more than half of our project got
lost within the uploading stage and so we ended up with only 20 seconds being uploaded to
YouTube and ultimately the blogs.
So it’s safe to say there was room for improvement coming in to creating our final piece.
During the planning phase we started of pretty ambitious yetagain, with Tom’sideas of going to
London or Paris to film and the possibility of filming a train with a drone flying over the railway
outside Temple Meads.
Eventually we came to a good final plan which we all agreed was achievable and effective but not
overly demanding – which was probably a good thing.
When we set out to shoot our shots we took a lot more care in how they looked before moving on to
the nextone i.e.reshooting a couple of times and watching them back after theywere filmed. This
allowed us to eradicate any risk of shakiness or unfocussedshots as well as giving us more options to
choose from in the editing stage.
As well as within the planning and the shooting phases of the project we also made changesin how
we went about the editing between the preliminary and main tasks. Our preliminary felt fairly rushed
in the editing process however for our main task we had much more time to edit allowing us to be
much more precise and cleverwith our edits as well as fine tuning it all.
To conclude,I feel we learnt a lot (about how not to make a successful piece of media) from our
preliminary allowing us to make a much better piece for our main task. We improved in all aspects of
creating the project and I’m happy with the final result we have produced.
