1. As you help girls to “Seek, Serve and follow Christ” you will discover more about your own faith –
things that will challenge you to think differently or that will help clarify issues you may have been
struggling with for a while. There will be more opportunity during your leadership journey that will
allow you to explore your own faith and thinking and how it impacts on you as a leader but at the
moment it is important to remember that our motto is there to guide the girls. It is impossible for you
as a Christian leader to help them on their journey without being affected yourself.
“Now set your mind and heart to
seek the Lord your God.”
1 Chronicles 22:19
“The Lord looks down from heaven
on all mankind to see if there are
any who understand, any who seek
God.” Psalm 14:2
“God did this so that they would
seek Him and perhaps reach out
for Him and find Him, though He is
not far from any one of us.”
Acts17:27
God desires all of us to look around our environments and recognise our
need for Him. He is actively looking for those who are seeking Him, regardless
of who they are, where they live or what they do. He has planned for us to
seek Him.
Seeking
2. Serving
Consider this from Martin Luther King Jr :
“The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was “If I stop to help
this man, what will happen to me? But the good Samaritan reversed the
question: “If I do not stop and help this man, what will happen to him?”
By volunteering with GBS you are asking yourself the second question.
Christian service lies at the heart of your leadership and at the heart of the
organisation.
“Prayer in action is
love and love in
action is service.”
Mother Theresa
“One of the principal rules of
religion is to lose no occasion of
serving God. And since He is
invisible to our eyes, we are to
serve him in our neighbour”
John Weasley
“All Christians are but God’s stewards. Everything we have is
on loan from the Lord, entrusted to us for a while to use in
serving Him.” John MacArthur
3. Following
As you follow the path laid out for you by God, you will show the girls you are
working with that they have choices to make in how they decide to follow
Christ. By example you will open up possibilities to them and encourage
them in their exploring.
“Come, follow me,”
Jesus said, “and I will
send you out to fish for
people.”
Matthew 4:19
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know
them, and they follow me. I give
them eternal life, and they will never
perish. No one can snatch them away
from me” John 10: 27-28
“For I know the plans I have for
you,” declares the Lord, “plans to
prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a
future.” Jeremiah 29:11
How can you as a Christian help girls to seek, serve and follow Christ? Talk to those you are
working with, do not be afraid to debate faith issues with them in an age appropriate way
and show them Christ’s love in action through your practical example. Be serious and honest
with them about your faith but show them humour and compassion as well. Our God is a
loving God and it is Him who has guided you to this position of service.
Seek the hand of God in the world around you. Serve His purpose working alongside the
people He calls you to help and support. Follow His word in all that you do and say. Seek
Him and Serve Him and Follow Him by learning from those you lead.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His
purpose.” Romans 8:28
