Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at The Switzer
Group. What challenges have you had to overcome to
reach where you are today?
13. Lou
I have been fascinated with design since I was ten years
old, and my focus has always been on becoming a
design professional. When I was 17, I moved to NYC
right out of high school and began working in the mail
room of a design firm, where I was quickly promoted to
draftsman. I enrolled in night school at the Pratt
Institute, studied design, and eventually worked for a
number of design businesses, eventually holding the
role of assistant director of facilities planning at a Wall
Street financial firm.
I collaborated with a wide range of professionals in this
role, including architects, contractors, developers,
landlords, engineers, and furniture vendors. This
influenced my leadership style and deepened my
understanding of how important careful governance is.
Respect for others was one of the most important
lessons while maintaining a strong focus on clear
communication.
Eventually, I had the opportunity to take a leap of faith,
bolstered by my belief in my abilities and hard work,
and strike out on my own. This was at a time when there
were very few minority architects or designers, and I
embraced this challenge wholeheartedly while staying
true to my vision.
Additionally, the competition was and remains fierce,
and my daily goal is to stay one step ahead with the
immense contribution of a talented staff. My ethos has
always been to work hard and never give up, and this
has been the bedrock of my success.
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision.
The Switzer Group is an interior planning, design, and
workplace strategy company that provides comprehen-
sive services in design and documentation, construc-
tion, strategic planning and analysis. We are a cohesive
group of 70+ talented, creative, and collaborative
people.
For 48 years, we have been designing and delivering
workplace solutions that exemplify the values and
brand of our clients, which directly impact their
productivity and satisfaction. We are dedicated to
design quality, sustainability, diversity, equity, and
inclusion and their defining characteristics. We are
constantly exploring new ways to grow and innovate.
Our core values consist of integrity, teamwork, excel-
lence, respect, and dignity. Our design intent dictates
that we are not bound by one design style or direction
and are always challenging ourselves to push beyond
the accepted parameters to arrive at innovative
solutions.

Architecture and Planning niche through your

The Switzer Group understands that there is a key link
between workplace design and higher levels of creativ-
ity and innovation. Given what we know about the
growing importance of innovation in today’s economy,
this has significant implications for workplaces,
communities, cities, and countries. We believe that
design not only influences the innovative process but
also that, done correctly, design has the power to drive
new innovation forward in a direct and measurable way.

model that requires seamless and intuitive interaction
and interconnectedness among all staff, while respect-
ing privacy, functionality, and flexibility.
Describe in detail the values and the work culture that
drives your organization.
My personal standards play a large part in my firm’s
culture. Integrity is paramount. Subsequently, I value
those who embody integrity, creativity, hard work, and
innovation, and I try to encourage this daily in my
practice. We are proud of our history in design, but we
are particularly proud of our ability to be outstanding
listeners. Our design process is rooted in our philoso-
phy of listening, dialogue, and providing options in the
process of discovery with the client. The goal is to give
each client a finished product that reflects their own
unique imagination and identity, and we believe our
commitment to active listening awakens possibilities,
enhances collaboration, and gains alignment.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging techno-
logical advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
The Switzer Group has long been at the forefront of
technological changes in the design industry. We were
one of the first firms to migrate to an all-CAD
environment and were cited for our early use of 3-D
walk-through animation to demonstrate our designs.
Presently, the entire industry is experiencing major
changes, not only in terms of new computer-aided
design software and BIM but also in terms of the affect
these have on project management, project processes,
staffing, and coordination with consultants, contrac-
tors, and owners.
We have a core technology team that continually

mature over the next few years and beyond. This shift is
influencing the design of the future office. Workplace
design is becoming increasingly community-based,
whether virtual or physical, and supports comfort,
creativity, productivity, and job satisfaction. With high-
quality digital conferencing facilities to connect remote
workers with in-office workers, breakout spaces where
employees can work together, informal soft seating
areas that can overflow to socializing, and private
booths for concentrated work, the future workplace
with its new technologies will help make collaboration
and individual work even more efficient.
I believe we are already part of this change as we
respond, innovate, and discover, along with our clients,
the best ways to meet their needs and aspirations. We
have always approached our work with an open mind so
that we are continuously learning, growing, and
initiating best practices and solutions while pushing the
boundaries of possibilities.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for The Switzer Group?
th
In two years, The Switzer Group will celebrate its 50
anniversary. I think that might be a good time for me to
revise my work schedule to a more remote pace. My
goal is to see the firm continue as The Switzer Group.
We have many team members who have helped this
firm achieve great success. A few members have been
here for decades. Subsequently, I feel confident that we
have the next generation in place to make this goal a
reality.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the architectural sector?
I would advise budding entrepreneurs to hold tight to
their vision, surround themselves with good people,

bility with other software in use, and implement only
when the firm is satisfied that the new software
technology works for our clients’ projects.
Our technology team updates templates and draws
standards within the implemented software parame-
ters. Senior Management Leadership oversees the
entire process to ensure that project design, manage-
ment, project teams, and personnel are in place to
properly and seamlessly serve our clientele.
Smart tech in the workplace, with the rise of
telepresence and digital collaboration tools, collabora-
tive office layouts, integrated technology, smart
security, virtual meetings, and flexible working policies,
is contributing to shaping the workplace of today and
tomorrow.
What change would you like to bring to the Design
industry if given a chance?
I think the only aspect that I would change or influence
would be to create a more seamless process in procure-
ment. There are many different players – “lots of
cooks”—that can complicate the process.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in the architectural sector? How is your
company preparing to be a part of that change?

change—the agile workplace. This trend will grow and

solutions that are overlooked by others to create a
successful business. In today’s modern landscape of
ongoing conceptualization of new ideas, establishing a
successful business amidst the intensely competitive
market requires leadership induced with intelligence as
well as extensive market knowledge.
Xclusive Yachts, founded by Amit Patel in 2006,

challenges that he encountered while establishing a
successful venture as well as the impact he has brought
in the modern business arena.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Briefly describe your professional journey up until
now. What challenges did you face along the way?
When I started, I was 21 years old, operating from my
apartment in the penthouse suite in Downtown Dubai,
overlooking the Burj Khalifa being built. I was actually
the first resident of Downtown Dubai. I used to do
everything myself - collections, payments, accounting,
admin, meet and greet, marketing, sales, etc. I was a
one-man operation with only 1 captain and 1 seaman.
When setting up, there was a lot of challenges, from
government approvals for certain types of activities in
the very early days to changes in the ever-evolving
maritime regulations. Even to this day, there are a lot of
changes, and you have to be prepared for them. Today,
we have over 400 employees and 70 boats and yachts

they do. It is important to have a good work-life

What significant impact have you
brought to the leisure marine industry?
We have got more people on water than anyone else.
We have multiple verticals, from a boating club to sea
school, tours, cruises, private charter, super yacht,
charter, and more. We serve up to 1 million guests per
year. We enable people to experience the sea by joining
a shared tour at a very affordable price. They can then
train to drive a boat and then join a boat club, slowly
moving towards owning their yacht.

20. What is your take on technology's importance, and
how are you leveraging it?
Being a graduate of Electronic Business, technology has
been paramount to the success of Xclusive Yachts.
Applying technology to the leisure marine industry has
allowed us to grow with a highly efficient system
process.
What will be the next significant change in the leisure
marine industry, and how are you preparing for it?
We will be introducing super yacht tours, allowing for
the first time in the world, regular people an affordable
super yacht experience on board a 43-meter yacht. This
is usually only available for the super-rich and famous.
The major change will be the rules and regulations that
will be more aligned with Europe.
What are your goals in the upcoming future?
We are in the process of acquiring another 2 super
yachts in the coming months and expanding regionally
and internationally.
What advice would you like to give the next genera-
tion of aspiring business leaders?
Things don’t come easy; it takes time to build but never
give up; keep going, work, work, work until you reach a
point where you no longer have to work. Even if it takes
over a decade of hard work, it can result in a lifetime of
success.

Aspects of Growth
I
n today's globalized world, diversity and inclusion
have become more than just buzzwords; they are
essential components of a thriving workplace.
Embracing diversity means acknowledging and valuing
the differences that employees bring to the table,
including race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation,
religion, and abilities. Inclusion, on the other hand,
involves creating an environment where everyone feels
welcome, respected, and empowered to contribute
their unique perspectives and ideas.
This article explores the significance of diversity and
inclusion in the workplace and highlights the numerous
benefits they bring to both employees and organizations.
Fostering Creativity and Innovation
A diverse and inclusive workplace cultivates an
environment where employees from different
backgrounds and experiences can collaborate and
exchange ideas freely. This diversity of thought sparks
creativity and innovation, as individuals bring unique
problem-solving approaches and perspectives to the
table. When people feel valued and heard, they are
more likely to share their creative insights, leading to
breakthroughs and enhanced business strategies.
www.ciolook.com | June 2023 |
20
24. Attracting and Retaining Top Talent
Companies that prioritize diversity and inclusion
attract a broader talent pool of skilled individuals from
diverse backgrounds. Talented candidates are more
likely to choose an organization that embraces
inclusivity, as it signals a supportive and progressive
work environment. Moreover, once hired, employees
are more likely to stay with a company that values their
contributions, leading to increased employee retention
and reduced turnover costs.
Improving Decision-Making
Diverse teams offer a range of perspectives and
experiences, leading to more informed and
comprehensive decision-making processes. When
individuals with varied backgrounds come together,
they bring a wide array of insights, reducing the risk of
groupthink and promoting critical analysis. Inclusive
decision-making ensures that all voices are heard, and
decisions are more reflective of the organization's
diverse stakeholders.
Enhancing Employee Engagement and Productivity
Inclusive workplaces foster a sense of belonging and
psychological safety among employees. When
individuals feel accepted and valued for who they are,
they are more likely to be engaged and committed to
their work. Engaged employees are more productive,
collaborate better with their colleagues, and
demonstrate higher levels of loyalty to the
organization.
Connecting with a Diverse Customer Base
Diverse teams are better equipped to understand and
connect with a diverse customer base. Customers from
different backgrounds are more likely to resonate with
companies that prioritize diversity and inclusion. As
businesses become more representative of their
customers, they can tailor their products and services
to meet diverse needs effectively.
Strengthening Brand Reputation
A commitment to diversity and inclusion enhances a
company's brand reputation. In today's socially
conscious world, consumers and stakeholders value
organizations that actively promote fairness and
inclusivity. A positive reputation as an inclusive
employer can lead to increased customer loyalty, brand
trust, and positive media coverage.
Promoting Global Competence
For companies with a global presence, embracing
diversity and inclusion is crucial for success in
international markets. Cultural competency is essential
for navigating diverse market landscapes and building
strong relationships with customers, partners, and
employees worldwide. An inclusive workplace fosters
an understanding and appreciation of different
cultures, making businesses more adaptable and
responsive to global challenges.
Mitigating Unconscious Bias
Promoting diversity and inclusion helps organizations
identify and address unconscious biases that may exist
within their workforce. Training and education on
unconscious bias can create a more inclusive workplace
where all employees are treated fairly and respectfully,
regardless of their background.
Embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace is
not just a moral imperative; it is a strategic advantage
that drives innovation, fosters creativity, and improves
overall business performance. A diverse and inclusive
workforce promotes employee engagement, enhances
decision-making, and strengthens an organization's
brand reputation. By creating an environment where all
employees feel valued and empowered to contribute,
businesses can unlock the full potential of their
workforce and build a sustainable, competitive
advantage in today's diverse and interconnected
world.

Empowering B2B Advertising and Lead Generation
I
n the rapidly evolving landscape of B2B advertising
and lead generation, Paul Guenther stands out for
his innovative approach and remarkable
success–the Founder of Knowledge Hub Media. With a
passion for technology and a keen understanding of the
industry's dynamics, Guenther has been at the
forefront of driving growth and transforming the way
businesses connect with their target audience.
Guenther's visionary leadership and dedication have
positioned Knowledge Hub Media as a prominent
player in the B2B advertising and lead generation
space. Through his unwavering belief in himself,
commitment to continuous improvement and
emphasis on customer satisfaction, Guenther is
driving the company's success. With a focus on
analytics and exceptional customer experiences,
Knowledge Hub Media continues to shape the future of
B2B advertising, connecting businesses with their
target audiences in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
From Dream to Reality: The Birth of an Entrepreneur
Guenther embarked on his entrepreneurial journey
with the establishment of IT Knowledge Hub in 2009,
which was later rebranded as Knowledge Hub Media.
From the very beginning, the company positioned itself
as a prominent player in the B2B advertising space,
specializing in lead generation, demand generation and
content syndication.
Leveraging content syndication via assets like white
papers, webinars and case studies, Knowledge Hub
Media generated highly targeted leads for clients
primarily in the software and technology industry.
Additionally, the company served advertising and
media agencies working on behalf of these clients,
promoting their technology platforms and software
solutions to find net new customers.
Guenther's personal story traces back to his time at
Penn State University, to be specific the fall of 2022,
where he initially pursued a major in Crime, Law &
Justice. He says, “At the time, I was pretty unsure about
what I wanted to do.” However, his interests shifted and
he discovered his passion for law school. He shares, “I
got my B.S. in the spring of 2006, which was immediately
followed by a (short) stint in Law School.” Despite a brief
stint in law school, he realized it wasn't the right path
for him at that time.
He also adds, “I was doing a part-time night program and
at the time, I was honestly just not ready for it. I was
working full time during the day, going out with my friends
at night and not at all focused on what I should have been
focused on. Whether or not it was a blessing in disguise, I’ll
never know…”
Subsequently, he pursued an MBA with a concentration
in Marketing Management from Wilmington University
in 2008. It was during this period that Guenther
embarked on what would become Knowledge Hub
Media. He mentions, “During that timeframe, somewhere
in 2009, I started working on what would become ‘IT
Knowledge Hub’ – which is now, of course, known as
Knowledge Hub Media.”
Armed with his MBA degree in 2010, Guenther
dedicated himself tirelessly to launching and growing
the company, taking on multiple roles ranging from
sales and marketing to accounting and website
development. As the company gained traction,
Guenther expanded his team, bringing on board
talented individuals to further fuel its growth.
He shares, “Anthony and James are running Sales and
Chris, who filled my first Client Services role. I had also gone
back to school by that point to get my Doctorate in Business
Administration–finally finishing my dissertation and
graduating in January 2020.”
www.ciolook.com | June 2023 |
25
28. Navigating Challenges and Decision-Making
In times of confusion or when facing difficult decisions,
Guenther relies on a two-fold approach. Firstly, he
emphasizes the importance of self-belief and trust in
one's abilities and the company's vision. Believing in
oneself and the team's capabilities provides the
foundation for overcoming challenges. Guenther says,
“Go with your instincts; And don’t be too risk-averse along
the way, either.”
Secondly, Guenther places great importance on
ownership and accountability. Acknowledging
mistakes, learning from them and making necessary
changes are essential to progress. Additionally,
recognizing the contributions of team members and
creating a culture of support and positivity is crucial for
maintaining motivation and navigating through growth.
Guenther emphasizes the same, explaining in his own
words, “In other words, always learn from your mistakes.
Conversely, when things go well, give credit to the people
who deserve it. There’s nothing wrong with taking a little
credit for yourself, of course; But one person can’t do it all –
not even close. It takes a confluence of amazing people
(with beautiful personalities) to build and maintain a strong
company.”
Qualities of a Leader
According to Guenther, three crucial qualities define an
exceptional leader. First and foremost, belief in oneself
and the company's potential plays a pivotal role in
achieving success. Supporting this, he states, “Whether
you think you CAN or think you CAN’T; Either way, you’re
going to end up being right about it.”
Second, learning from mistakes and ensuring they are
not repeated is vital for personal and professional
growth. Guenther emphasizes the importance of
owning one's actions, admitting mistakes when they
occur and implementing changes to avoid their
recurrence.
Finally, Guenther advocates for living in the
present, recognizing that the present
moment is the only one within an
individual's control. By focusing on the
now, leaders can make informed decisions
and shape a better future. Guenther
annotates, “When you think about it, the present is
the only tense that you can actually control. The past
has already happened; the future is basically just a goal; A
projection of what you want to happen down the line. The
present is actually happening (right now).”
Efficient Management and Leadership Style
As a founder, Paul Guenther believes in efficient
management and empowering his team to excel. He
says, “Trusting and allowing everyone to do their job is
important.” While some level of micromanagement may
be necessary during an employee's early stages with
the company, Guenther places a strong emphasis on
trust and autonomy. Once employees are comfortable
www.ciolook.com | June 2023 |
26
29. and proficient in their roles, they are given the freedom
to make decisions and contribute to the company's
growth.
He also shares, “At the end of the day, I give everyone the
ability to make decisions where they see fit and overall, I’m
against the idea of micromanaging. It creates unnecessary
pressures and stress that really shouldn’t exist. We have a
pretty good culture here.” Guenther fosters a culture that
is customer-centric and employee-centric, valuing the
importance of positive relationships and maintaining a
happy and motivated workforce.
Differentiating Factors
Knowledge Hub Media sets itself apart in the market
through its strengths in two key areas. First, the
company has been at the forefront of data analytics and
business intelligence—long before the term—‘analytics’
became ubiquitous.
With a deep focus on big data, Knowledge Hub Media
has developed its own models and simulations
internally, leveraging analytics to gain valuable insights.
Moreover, the company introduced its intent data
analytics platform called ‘Intent DataCloud,’ which
measures B2B content consumption across multiple
channels, delivering highly targeted and relevant leads
to clients.
Secondly, Knowledge Hub Media places utmost
importance on the customer experience. The
company's unwavering commitment to providing
excellent customer service is its primary goal. Guenther
shares, “At the end of the day, though, the customer is
always the most important thing. That’s just the reality of it
and also why I will say that offering a great customer
experience is really our #1 goal. It always has been.”
Responsiveness, product quality and customization are
key pillars of the company's customer-centric
approach. Knowledge Hub Media ensures immediate
response to customer queries and continuously refines
its data quality, both in terms of data integrity and lead
scoring mechanisms.
Honors and Commendation
Knowledge Hub Media has garnered numerous
accolades and recognitions over the years. The
company's commitment to excellence and innovation
has earned it a place on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list for
three consecutive years, as recognized by Inc.
Magazine. Furthermore, Entrepreneur Magazine has
honored Knowledge Hub Media as one of the top 360
privately-owned companies in America, highlighting its
entrepreneurial spirit and success.
The company's innovative approach to advertising
technology was acknowledged at the InterCon Awards
Conference, where it was recognized as one of the most
innovative advertising technology companies in 2020-
2021. Knowledge Hub Media's influence has also
extended to notable magazine publications, radio
programs and podcasts, solidifying its position as a
thought leader in the industry.
Bequeathing Wisdom
Paul Guenther offers valuable advice to aspiring
entrepreneurs. He emphasizes the significance of self-
belief and maintaining humility. Success is not a
permanent state and it is crucial to continuously learn,
adapt and build bridges rather than burning them.
Building a strong network, fostering relationships and
being receptive to new ideas and perspectives are key
ingredients for entrepreneurial success.
Smooth sailing is a real
thing–but it’s not a
permanent thing. It’s
allusive, and ultimately, it’s
a temperamental
construct.
