Bed?
A turn over cooling bed is a type of
conveyor system used to cool down
hot steel products in a controlled
way to reduce their temperature to
a certain level
Why is it important?
It is instrumental in bringing high-
temperature steel products down to
the desired temperature, so that it
can be transported for further
processing and also for ensuring
that it is not damaged or deformed.
Types of Turn Over Cooling
Beds
There are several types of turn over
cooling beds such as a fixed rake
cooling bed, chain cooling bed,
walking beam cooling bed, and lift
and swing cooling bed.
Total Output
The annual output of a turn over cooling bed for a steel making plant varies depending on the plant size and its production
capacity but typically ranges from 100,000 to 1,000,000 tons per year.
Working Principle of the Cooling Bed
How does it work?
The turn over cooling bed works by
transporting hot steel products from the
reheating furnace onto the cooling bed. The
steel products are then cooled down by the
air and water sprayed from the cooling
system while they travel to the discharge
end of the cooling bed.
The Cooling Process
During the cooling process, the hot steel
products are transported via rollers which
are situated on a sloping bed. The rollers
rotate at a slow pace to help reduce the
residual heat and cool the product to the
desired temperature.
Cooling Bed Components
A cooling bed is made from a system of
conveyor rollers, water spray system,
cooling fans, stoppers and spacers, end
ramps, and over turning devices to facilitate
the cooling process and transfer of the
steel products for further processing.
