Critical Evaluation
A Critical Evaluation of Three Different Methods for Treating Generalise Anxiety Disorder.
Anxiety Disorders are an extremely prevalent type of mental disorder that affect approximately 10% of the population (Burton, Westen and Kowalski,
2015). One of the lesser–known Anxiety Disorders is Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) affecting around 2% of the population (ABS, 2007d, as
cited in Burton, Westen & Kowalski, 2015). Stapinski, Abbot and Rapee (2010), define GAD as "persistent anxiety at a moderate, but disturbing level
[in addition to] unrealistic worry about life circumstances" (as cited in Burton et al., 2015). Furthermore, GAD has been closely linked with
depression and a reduced life quality (Roemer, Orsillo & Salters–Pedneault, 2008)....show more content...
Salzer et al. (2011) also noted that although the results of the study appeared to be in favour of CBT treatment due to the small sample size the study
was not well suited to an equivalence trial leaving the study unable to draw definitive conclusions to one treatment being more effective than the
other. A secondary issue to the small sample size it that is also not possible to draw conclusions on the effectiveness of STPP to the larger population.
Further research on a larger sample is required to confirm STPP effectiveness in within a larger sample group and to draw conclusions as to whether
one treatment was more effective than the

Arrington 1 Karen Arrington English Katherine Oneil 22 July 2012 CRITICAL EVALUATION ESSAY Introduction In W.E.B. Du Bois' "Of Mr.
Booker T. Washington and Others," Du Bois criticized Washington's policy of racial accommodation and gradualism. Du Bois rejected the latter's
willingness to avoid messing with the racial issues and pushed for his views on political power, the continuance of the civil rights fight, and higher
education for all the Negro youth. Washington emphasized that education should be attained in order to get real jobs and played down on seeking
equality...show more content...
His controversial opinions and assertions about race and politics made him a controversial figure. He totally disagrees with Washington whose
recommendations of what the Negroes should be and catapults the Black race into disfranchisement and inferiority (Du Bois, 1903). He saw and
lived in an American society where the Negroes were forced to abide by the dictates of the Whites. His open conflict with Booker T. Washington
on the role of the Negroes in American society is the vehemently expressed in this essay that is part of the collection found in "The Souls of Black
Folk" (1903). This "twoness" that Du Bois points out in most of his works and lectures are still considered to be prevalent even to this day.
Conclusion While Booker T. Washington views the Negro plight as a "racial uplift" is what W.E.B. Du Bois considered to be out of this world
because the latter realizes that the former's ideas was more conciliatory in nature rather than for the best interests of the Black population in America.
The strong disagreements of Du Bois with most of Washington's opinions are more defined in this essay where the Du Bois heavily criticized
Washington's stance about civil rights issues. rivalry continued to spark interest among other Negro leaders who believe that both have their own right

Essay On Critical Appraisal
I choose "Developing an Information Literacy Workshop to Improve Evidence–Based Practice Among Nurse Practitioner Students" to summarize for
this forum. The presentation was a discussion presented by Antiqua Smart on a scholarly practice project study. The purpose of the study was to
develop and implement a workshop to improve Nurse Practitioner (NP) students in critical appraisal skills and clinical decision–making skills in
support of Evidence Bases Practice (EBP) during clinical practicum experience and beyond (Smart, 2014). After reviewing the supporting literature for
her study, the method was discussed in which sample of 20 NP students participated. The method of data collection included the use of pre and posttest
surveys after attending a workshop. The workshop was over four hours that included topics such as Information Literature,...show more content...
I thought I had a good concept on the process of appraisal. However, after receiving feedback from our recent assignment, I need to sharpen these
skills. Critical Appraisal is a skill set that requires practice to efficiently appraise the literature. Smart reviewed a rapid appraisal process that is not
for the novice learner of the process. Looking back over the assignment, I can say that I fell into the rapid appraisal process attempting to move
forward through the course in a timely manner. As I go back to the search for a different article, I will take away from the webinar refreshed

Essay about Critical Thinking: Evaluation
Critical Evaluation of an Academic Source Odetta Rodriguez Capella University Critical Evaluation of an Academic Source This paper is a summary
of critical evaluation of the suitability of an article as an academic source. The title of the article is Critical Thinking: An Extended Definition. The
author, Professor Ken Petress, analyzes various definitions of critical thinking and provides his definition of the concept as well. It is vitally important
when performing research on a topic that we completely understand the topic and that we can apply certain tests or questions to the topic in order to
determine its relevance and validity. Checklist for Critical Evaluation The...show more content...

main issue? Does the information used appear relevant, significant, valid, and sufficient for the conclusions being drawn? Do you have enough
information to determine whether the information is relevant, significant, and valid? The main concepts presented in the article are the varying
definitions of each author on the concept of critical thinking. The information the author uses are definitions which are the opinions of varied authors
and are similar in foundation in that to apply critical thinking one must be able to identify a problem, pose a question(s), provide valid supporting
evidence, and come to a conclusion. Although the author's definitions do not identify a problem, questions, evidence, or conclusions, the relationship
Petress (2004) shows is that the reader must apply this process themselves as it is not always given. The information used does appear to be relevant,

Critical Appraisal Essay
The purpose of this report is to conduct a critical appraisal of a published article.
Carnwell (1997) describes a critical appraisal as an unbiased and balanced
scrutiny of the research paper so that both its strengths and weaknesses are
highlighted. The focus of the appraisal with be on "Promoting the health of
people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; patients and their carer's
views" (Caress et al, 2010). The format of the appraisal will be formed around a
set of criteria (see appendix 1).
The journal looks at the views of patients and their carer's experiences with living
the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), its causes, how they manage
with the symptoms, its progression and what role...show more content...
Caress et al (2010) have included literature from as far
back as 1968. The literature does offer some epidemiology in relation to cause,
distribution and control of the disease with the population but there has been no
research literature put forward for discussion. There is also one journal included
titles "A descriptive study of meaning of illness in chronic renal disease" it could
be argued that this wasn't really relevant to the research being carried out.
There has also been no mention of family systems theory as this would have
been quite beneficial as it looks at the broader picture and takes into
consideration the impact that the disease has on other family members. This
could have supported the decision for including family members within the study.
Caress et al (2010) successfully obtained ethical approval; they state that
"Relevant ethical and institutional/governance was obtained" however there was
no mention of who the professional body was that approved them. Beauchamp
and Childress (2001) identify four fundamental principles in achieving ethical
approval, autonomy, non–maleficence, benefince and justice. Autonomy refers to
the individual's right to freely decide if they wish to participate without fear of
coercion, Greaney et al (2012) advise that it is also important to give potential
participants adequate time to freely decide if they

Critical Evaluation Essay
"Now We Can Begin" an essay by Crystal Eastman is a very powerful essay. Eastman makes the point know in her essay that an honest and true
feminist no matter where she stands in the movement she will see to the woman's fight with strength and courage and how it matters in the future and
as well as its difference in its approach for the workers fight for industrial freedom. Eastman state "In fighting for the right to vote most women have
tried to be either non–committal or thoroughly respectable on every other subject. Now they can say what they are really after; and what they are after,
in common with all the rest of the struggling world, is freedom"...show more content...
During that same time Elizabeth Cady Stanton was head of the Women's Rights Convention in New York. It was with much time and effort put into
many conferences that the amendment which gave the women the right to vote was written by Susan Anthony, but the amendment was not passed
and made law until 1920. During this time is when Crystal Eastman started stating her views and ideas of what she would like to happen. Eastman
was there first hand to see that women did not have any rights during her short life so the having the Eastman writing this article is a very valuable
trustworthy source as an activist for women's rights. Crystal Eastman wanted to see change this is obvious seeing how she helped found the
International League for Peace and Freedom this group was previously named the Woman's Peace Party Crystal Eastman served as president of this
organization. Eastman states how grateful she is that the law was passed that gave women the right to vote but, that is not all she expressed that she
wanted more. East writes this essay playing on the emotions and logical thinking of her audience. Eastman states "Freedom of choice in occupation
and individual economic independence for women: How shall we approach this next feminist objective? First, by breaking down all remaining
barriers, actual as well as legal, which make it difficult for women to enter or succeed in the various professions, to go into and get on in business, to
learn trades and
