Essay about Surfing The Internet
Surfing The Internet
Chances are, anyone who is reading this paper has at one time, at least, surfed the net once. Don't worry if you haven't, I will explain everything you
need to know about the Internet and the World Wide Web. Including how it started, it's growth, and the purpose it serves in today's society.
The Internet was born about 20 years ago, as a U.S. Defense Department network called the ARPnet. The ARPnetwork was an experimental network
designed to support military research. It was research about how to build networks that could withstand partial outages (like bomb attacks) and still be
able to function. From that point on, Internet developers were responding to the market pressures, and began building or developing...show more

The next thing is Universal Electronic Mail or Eā€“mail. Eā€“mail is the biggest and cheapest system on the Net and is also one of it's biggest attractions.
Since all commercial onā€“line services have something called "gateways" for sending and receiving electronic mail messages on the
Internet, you're able to send and receive messages or files to anyone else who is onā€“line, anywhere in the world and in seconds.
The third feature I mentioned was files and software. This in my opinion is the most impressive one. All the thousands of individual computer facilities
connected to the Internet are also vast storage repositories for hundreds of thousands of software programs, information text files, video and sound
clips, and other computer based resources. And their all accessible in minutes from any personal computer onā€“line to the Internet.
So I could do all this stuff on the Internet, why should I take notice?
Because of it's sheer size, volume of messages, and it's incredible monthly growth. From the latest statistics I was able to get, their are currently 30
million people who use the Internet worldwide. To try and put that number into perspective, that's over five times the size of CompuServe, America
Onā€“line,
Prodigy, and all other onā€“line commercial information services combined. Or if you're not familiar with those services, it's more than the combined
populations of New York City, London, and

Essay on Education and the Internet
Education and the Internet Due to the expansion of the Internet in recent years, schools and universities around the world have been incorporating
more technology into their classrooms. Computers are ever present on college campuses, and many teachers are including them for class activities on
a daily basis. With email, a teacher or can be in contact with his or her students outside of the classroom to discuss class work. Computers in the
classroom are extremely beneficial for students, more importantly; the use of the Internet allows students easy access to an abundance of information.
Writing an essay in a Moo room is useful for both students and teachers. The structure of a Moo room allows the reader to skip from one room...show

Receiving help is as easy as communicating with the other people online. This saves the hassle of arranging a meeting with a teacher or classmates.
This is beneficial because an instant response can be obtained in a matter of seconds. Also, this is the most appropriate place for a correct response to
any Moo related questions.
When an essay is completed in a Moo, it is out there for the world to see. In other words, anyone and everyone in the world who has access to the
Internet can view it. This leaves an essay open for criticism, which can be used constructively to help the student develop his or her work. It also
beneficial for the teachers. It allows the teacher to view the student's work with the click of a mouse. No longer does class have to be in session for
work to be accomplished. Teachers can view an essay over the Internet, then email the student back his or her grade at any time they desire. Essays
written on the Internet also free the teacher from carrying around stacks of papers.
Although Moos have many advantages, there are also certain drawbacks to creating an essay in this fashion. When writing an essay in the Moo, the
Moo editor may be needed.
The editor contains certain commands that are needed to get around throughout the rooms, and it may be hard to memorize them all. This can be a
stressful task to learn the commands, but once they are familiar, travel throughout the Moo rooms is much easier.

Dangers of the Internet Essay
Dangers of the Internet
There are many pitfalls and perils on the Internet. Some of them are easy to avoid while other are not so obvious. Some of the Pitfalls and perils are
annoying, while others are deadly to your computer. Still others are humorous and entertaining. There are many dangers on the Internet. This paper will
try to cover some of them.
The biggest dangers of the Internet are virus. Viruses are small programs that "infect" computers. Most viruses are made to "steal" and or "destroy"
data stored on the infected computer. Viruses, that destroy data, write their code into afile and when that file is accessed it rewrites itself in to more files
until the virus corrupters or "infects" a file that the computer needs to run...show more content...
Eā€“mailed Viruses are harder to avoid. Opening an attached file can trigger them or by touching the message that contains the attached file and then the
file menu bar of the Eā€“mail program. (Email Hole Exposes Computers) The seconded way to start a virus is because of a hole in Netscape's mail
program and also MS's Outlook. A new way for Viruses to be spread by E
ā€“mail is to put the whole code for the virus in the subject line that way when
the computer read the subject line it unwittingly activated the virus. The newest way for people to get viruses is through the web pages. This is
done by putting the virus code into a script on the web page, now when the page is accessed the viruses executes the viruses code. (Virus Thrives on
HTML) This can make a virus very prolific if a lot of people visit the web page.
Crackers use viruses for their destructive ways. Crackers are people who go out of their way to cause damage to other peoples systems through
the use of viruses and direct hacking. Crackers are not hackers. Calling a Cracker a hacker is like comparing a red delicious apple to a golden delicious
apple. Hackers are computer enthuses that hack, break in to, systems in order to learn about the system. Hackers as a rule do not do any damage to
the system. Crackers are the ones to give hackers bad repartitions. Crackers use virus

History of the Internet Essay examples
A very common question that often arises is 'When was the Internet developed or invented?" That is a good question, one that is hard to define as it has
many multiple answers.
The Internet, including the World Wide Web (WWW), is perhaps one of the greatest inventions of our time. Without a doubt, it has had a profound
effect on almost every aspect of our lives. The formation and implementation of the Internet has changed the way we do business, communicate,
entertain, retrieve information, and even educate ourselves. Nevertheless, the Internet might have never materialized if it had not been for some
innovated thinkers from the Advanced Research Project Agency, who created "ARPAnet."
The Internet began as a proposed plan to...show more content...
This development continued at a fast pace until an English computer scientist, Timothy Bernersā€“Lee, for the European Organization for Nuclear
Research (CERN) developed the protocols for the World Wide Web in 1989.
The Internet refers to the global information system that is logically linked together by a globally unique address space based on the Internet Protocol
(IP); is able to support communications using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite; provides, uses, or makes accessible,
either publicly or privately, high level services layered on the communications and related infrastructure.
Computers on the Internet may use one or all of the following Internet services:
Š’Ā· Electronic mail (eā€“mail). Permits you to send and receive mail. Provides access to discussion groups.
Š’Ā· Telnet or remote login. Permits your computer to log onto another computer and use it as if you were there.
Š’Ā· FTP or File Transfer Protocol. Allows your computer to rapidly retrieve complex files intact from a remote computer and view or save them on your
computer.
Š’Ā· Gopher. An early, textā€“only method for accessing Internet documents. Gopher has been almost entirely subsumed in the World Wide Web, but

Essay about Internet Security
Internet Security
Security is crucial to any flourishing society such as the one in which we Americans live today. Imagine if there was no law enforcement in New
York City. No one except criminals would dare to walk down the streets. People would live in fear every day. No one would work and no one could
enjoy nature and the outdoors. We would all barricade ourselves indoors, only daring to venture outside into the dangerous world when we absolutely
needed to. Everything would be different.
Thinking of the Internet as a society, or a global community, one can also apply this notion of the importance of security. Imagine if everyone had
access to all the files on every individual's and every business's computers. It...show more content...
Posing as a branch manager, he used the code to transfer $13 million from Security Pacific to his Swiss bank account" (Zviran & Haga, 163). Another
major security breach happened when "German hackers penetrated military, government, and commercial computer systems... looking for military
information that could be sold to the Soviet Union." As exemplified by these crimes, the Internet has security holes just as any country, including
America, does. Whether big banks or our own government, criminals will always be trying to find ways to take advantage of people, companies, and
countries... and where there's a will, there's a way.
What is satisfying to know is that these online criminals pay for their crimes just as anyone in real life pay for theirs. For example, an article at
sciencedirect.com reports that a "17ā€“yearā€“old computer hacker responsible for denialā€“ofā€“service attacks that crippled several Web sites... has been
sentenced to eight months in a juvenile detention center" (http://www.sciencedirect.com). It is reassuring to know that special Internet police units are
out to keep the Internet safe just as they do for our streets.
People love technology because we love convenience. Technology increases convenience. This is why ATM's are so popular and why electronic

Essay on Internet Communication
Since the invention and popularization of the internet, computer mediated communication has become an increasingly common mode of socialization.
Many people have voiced the concern that the move away from physical communication might have negative repercussions for society; however,
socialization on the internet has a number of advantages over traditional socialization. The internet provides a larger pool of potential social contacts
compared to physically seeking people, creates means for people to easily communicate when spatially or temporally disconnected and allows a
comfortable atmosphere for communication. At any given moment there are more people available for socialization on the internet then there are
people with which one...show more content...
When communicating through an instant messenger, one can send messages while conversational partners are away from their computers and the
partners will still see the messages when they return. Not only do they not need to be physically present, they do not even need to be participating in
the conversation at the exact same time. This makes computer mediated communication one of the easiest means of transmitting information. Physical
communication is more intimidating them communicating through typing. Typing allows one more time to think and reword one's thoughts before
communicating them. Further, the fact that people cannot see the physical reaction of their conversational partners makes it easier to communicate
about difficult topics. This is especially helpful shy people. Shy individuals who do not use the internet for communication have less social contacts
then shy people who do socialize on the internet3. Most people have some degree of shyness; communicating through the internet helps alleviate the
negative effects of shyness and makes socializing more comfortable. Some would argue that the above benefits are irrelevant because online social
encounters rarely result in a social relationship. Although it is true that many encounters on the internet do not lead to meaningful social relationships,
the same can be said about physical social encounters. For example, two people who meet while riding a bus might speak during the

Essay on My Internet Experience
My Internet Experience
When I first head about the Internet, the first thing that ran through my mind was that computers are going to take over the world. I have a very
negative outlook. I thought people were never going to come out of their home, because now they are going base their whole life around the computer.
My view was that computers were evil and they disconnect humans from nature. I never cared to even see for myself what everyone was talking about.
I thought that it was too hyped and mainstream and of course I did not want to fall into the mainstream category. I assumed anybody spending that much
time infront of a computer must be a total geek without friends. This all changed when my best friend got a computer...show more content...
I imagined a whole new world, being able to communicate, send pictures and letter instantly. All of a sudden I felt as if I was in a future Sciā€“Fi movie,
clicking one word and having many many sites opening up to me. It was too good to be true. All those days spending in the library amongst books,
files and research materials, were all under one click of a button. I laughed at myself because it all seemed so hard because I had feared the Internet
world and now it was easy as pie.
As I continued my searching, I typed many different words. I found this site called "Yahoo", which you can practically find anything, anytime. It
gave me a list of 7 categories. The word I had chosen at the time was "Faeries", and I got so many sites that again I did not know which one to pick.
So I picked one and it was the most beautiful one of all. It had so many links and beautiful romantic pictures, along with poetry. I thought I was
never going to leave the computer now. It is my new best friend and it always agrees with me and listens to me. I now knew what I wanted for my
birthday present, a labtop. How quickly was I influenced! The more I searched the web, the more I realized it is infinite. I decided to choose the
word Chakra. I got a list of sites and I chose www.astralnet.net/energylinks.htm. I chose this site because it had the word Kundalini, which is a form of
a Chakra. I looked this word up because
I was introduced to it by Dr.Roger

The Future of the Internet Essay
In today's world 3 billion humans are on the internet but there are also 4 billion people that are not. In the beginning of my study on the future of the
internet, I asked myself this question: is it possible that everyone could be online and globally connected? Then I asked myself how, if everyone is
online, the future of the internet change the experience of everyday life? Looking back, the internet is still a relatively new phenomenon as it was first
created back in the 1960's by a computer scientist named J.C.R Licklider. He envisioned a network of computers, called the galactic network, which
would allow humans to be able to share information instantly. Overtime this is how the internet developed, as many of these networks that shared

Knowing all of this and how far the internet has already come...I realized how much farther the internet really has left to go. In a small window of
time, the internet has had an extraordinary impact on how people live their daily lives. It gives the human mind the capability to access new ideas,
information and endless possibilities. Which leads to the chronological question, if this is what the internet can do now, what will the future of the
internet look like? Even though the internet has already had a significant impact on society thus far, nobody saw it coming even though everybody
could predict it. In a world that is constantly changing, the internet is constantly adapting. The true computer revolution has begun but only cracked the
surface into the boundless levels it has the capability to reach. In the future the internet will expand in three major areas, speed, intelligence and
connection.
Right now we are all programmed to be patient as our YouTube videos continue to buffer. We are patient because we are using "futuristic technology"
such as google maps, which can virtually take anyone from there living room to the front door of someone's house across the world. In an article that
was published on foxnews.com by Blake Snow states that right now there is an ultrafast, 10ā€“gigabit Internet in the works at Google. It is called Google

  • 5. Dangers of the Internet Essay Dangers of the Internet There are many pitfalls and perils on the Internet. Some of them are easy to avoid while other are not so obvious. Some of the Pitfalls and perils are annoying, while others are deadly to your computer. Still others are humorous and entertaining. There are many dangers on the Internet. This paper will try to cover some of them. The biggest dangers of the Internet are virus. Viruses are small programs that "infect" computers. Most viruses are made to "steal" and or "destroy" data stored on the infected computer. Viruses, that destroy data, write their code into afile and when that file is accessed it rewrites itself in to more files until the virus corrupters or "infects" a file that the computer needs to run...show more content... Eā€“mailed Viruses are harder to avoid. Opening an attached file can trigger them or by touching the message that contains the attached file and then the file menu bar of the Eā€“mail program. (Email Hole Exposes Computers) The seconded way to start a virus is because of a hole in Netscape's mail program and also MS's Outlook. A new way for Viruses to be spread by E ā€“mail is to put the whole code for the virus in the subject line that way when the computer read the subject line it unwittingly activated the virus. The newest way for people to get viruses is through the web pages. This is done by putting the virus code into a script on the web page, now when the page is accessed the viruses executes the viruses code. (Virus Thrives on HTML) This can make a virus very prolific if a lot of people visit the web page. Crackers use viruses for their destructive ways. Crackers are people who go out of their way to cause damage to other peoples systems through the use of viruses and direct hacking. Crackers are not hackers. Calling a Cracker a hacker is like comparing a red delicious apple to a golden delicious apple. Hackers are computer enthuses that hack, break in to, systems in order to learn about the system. Hackers as a rule do not do any damage to the system. Crackers are the ones to give hackers bad repartitions. Crackers use virus Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. History of the Internet Essay examples A very common question that often arises is 'When was the Internet developed or invented?" That is a good question, one that is hard to define as it has many multiple answers. The Internet, including the World Wide Web (WWW), is perhaps one of the greatest inventions of our time. Without a doubt, it has had a profound effect on almost every aspect of our lives. The formation and implementation of the Internet has changed the way we do business, communicate, entertain, retrieve information, and even educate ourselves. Nevertheless, the Internet might have never materialized if it had not been for some innovated thinkers from the Advanced Research Project Agency, who created "ARPAnet." The Internet began as a proposed plan to...show more content... This development continued at a fast pace until an English computer scientist, Timothy Bernersā€“Lee, for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) developed the protocols for the World Wide Web in 1989. The Internet refers to the global information system that is logically linked together by a globally unique address space based on the Internet Protocol (IP); is able to support communications using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite; provides, uses, or makes accessible, either publicly or privately, high level services layered on the communications and related infrastructure. Computers on the Internet may use one or all of the following Internet services: Š’Ā· Electronic mail (eā€“mail). Permits you to send and receive mail. Provides access to discussion groups. Š’Ā· Telnet or remote login. Permits your computer to log onto another computer and use it as if you were there. Š’Ā· FTP or File Transfer Protocol. Allows your computer to rapidly retrieve complex files intact from a remote computer and view or save them on your computer. Š’Ā· Gopher. An early, textā€“only method for accessing Internet documents. Gopher has been almost entirely subsumed in the World Wide Web, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Internet Security Internet Security Security is crucial to any flourishing society such as the one in which we Americans live today. Imagine if there was no law enforcement in New York City. No one except criminals would dare to walk down the streets. People would live in fear every day. No one would work and no one could enjoy nature and the outdoors. We would all barricade ourselves indoors, only daring to venture outside into the dangerous world when we absolutely needed to. Everything would be different. Thinking of the Internet as a society, or a global community, one can also apply this notion of the importance of security. Imagine if everyone had access to all the files on every individual's and every business's computers. It...show more content... Another major security breach happened when "German hackers penetrated military, government, and commercial computer systems... looking for military information that could be sold to the Soviet Union." As exemplified by these crimes, the Internet has security holes just as any country, including America, does. Whether big banks or our own government, criminals will always be trying to find ways to take advantage of people, companies, and countries... and where there's a will, there's a way. What is satisfying to know is that these online criminals pay for their crimes just as anyone in real life pay for theirs. For example, an article at sciencedirect.com reports that a "17ā€“yearā€“old computer hacker responsible for denialā€“ofā€“service attacks that crippled several Web sites... has been sentenced to eight months in a juvenile detention center" (http://www.sciencedirect.com). It is reassuring to know that special Internet police units are out to keep the Internet safe just as they do for our streets. People love technology because we love convenience. Technology increases convenience. This is why ATM's are so popular and why electronic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on Internet Communication Since the invention and popularization of the internet, computer mediated communication has become an increasingly common mode of socialization. Many people have voiced the concern that the move away from physical communication might have negative repercussions for society; however, socialization on the internet has a number of advantages over traditional socialization. The internet provides a larger pool of potential social contacts compared to physically seeking people, creates means for people to easily communicate when spatially or temporally disconnected and allows a comfortable atmosphere for communication. At any given moment there are more people available for socialization on the internet then there are people with which one...show more content... When communicating through an instant messenger, one can send messages while conversational partners are away from their computers and the partners will still see the messages when they return. Not only do they not need to be physically present, they do not even need to be participating in the conversation at the exact same time. This makes computer mediated communication one of the easiest means of transmitting information. Physical communication is more intimidating them communicating through typing. Typing allows one more time to think and reword one's thoughts before communicating them. Further, the fact that people cannot see the physical reaction of their conversational partners makes it easier to communicate about difficult topics. This is especially helpful shy people. Shy individuals who do not use the internet for communication have less social contacts then shy people who do socialize on the internet3. Most people have some degree of shyness; communicating through the internet helps alleviate the negative effects of shyness and makes socializing more comfortable. Some would argue that the above benefits are irrelevant because online social encounters rarely result in a social relationship. Although it is true that many encounters on the internet do not lead to meaningful social relationships, the same can be said about physical social encounters. For example, two people who meet while riding a bus might speak during the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on My Internet Experience My Internet Experience When I first head about the Internet, the first thing that ran through my mind was that computers are going to take over the world. I have a very negative outlook. I assumed anybody spending that much time infront of a computer must be a total geek without friends. This all changed when my best friend got a computer...show more content... I imagined a whole new world, being able to communicate, send pictures and letter instantly. All of a sudden I felt as if I was in a future Sciā€“Fi movie, clicking one word and having many many sites opening up to me. It was too good to be true. All those days spending in the library amongst books, files and research materials, were all under one click of a button. I laughed at myself because it all seemed so hard because I had feared the Internet world and now it was easy as pie. As I continued my searching, I typed many different words. I found this site called "Yahoo", which you can practically find anything, anytime. It gave me a list of 7 categories. The word I had chosen at the time was "Faeries", and I got so many sites that again I did not know which one to pick. So I picked one and it was the most beautiful one of all. It had so many links and beautiful romantic pictures, along with poetry. I thought I was never going to leave the computer now. It is my new best friend and it always agrees with me and listens to me. I now knew what I wanted for my birthday present, a labtop. How quickly was I influenced! The more I searched the web, the more I realized it is infinite. I decided to choose the word Chakra. I got a list of sites and I chose www.astralnet.net/energylinks.htm. I chose this site because it had the word Kundalini, which is a form of a Chakra. I looked this word up because I was introduced to it by Dr.Roger Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Future of the Internet Essay In today's world 3 billion humans are on the internet but there are also 4 billion people that are not. In the beginning of my study on the future of the internet, I asked myself this question: is it possible that everyone could be online and globally connected? Then I asked myself how, if everyone is online, the future of the internet change the experience of everyday life? Looking back, the internet is still a relatively new phenomenon as it was first created back in the 1960's by a computer scientist named J.C.R Licklider. He envisioned a network of computers, called the galactic network, which would allow humans to be able to share information instantly. Overtime this is how the internet developed, as many of these networks that shared ...show more content... Knowing all of this and how far the internet has already come...I realized how much farther the internet really has left to go. In a small window of time, the internet has had an extraordinary impact on how people live their daily lives. It gives the human mind the capability to access new ideas, information and endless possibilities. Which leads to the chronological question, if this is what the internet can do now, what will the future of the internet look like? Even though the internet has already had a significant impact on society thus far, nobody saw it coming even though everybody could predict it. In a world that is constantly changing, the internet is constantly adapting. The true computer revolution has begun but only cracked the surface into the boundless levels it has the capability to reach. In the future the internet will expand in three major areas, speed, intelligence and connection. Right now we are all programmed to be patient as our YouTube videos continue to buffer. We are patient because we are using "futuristic technology" such as google maps, which can virtually take anyone from there living room to the front door of someone's house across the world. In an article that was published on foxnews.com by Blake Snow states that right now there is an ultrafast, 10ā€“gigabit Internet in the works at Google.
