Same sex marriage has been an issue of debate among many countries because it concerns an issue of basic human and moral rights. According to the
United States, a traditional marriage is the union of opposite sexes, a heterosexual union. One man and one woman unite to bind their marriage. This
has been the tradition for many years until the issue of same sex marriage arose around the 1970s. The Defense of Marriage Act was passed in 1996
and gave the states the decision on whether or not they authorized homosexual marriage. It describes marriage as a "legal union between one man and
one woman." Only 17 of 50 states legalized gay marriage which isn't even half of the United States. Some states are so grounded to their customs that
they actually banned same sex marriage. There is nothing dangerous or unnatural about it and there is no need to try to protect the traditional marriage
because no harm will come to it. Same sex marriage should be legalized by all states because it is unmerited and inequitable. Many argue that same sex
marriage is unconstitutional, but in fact it is unconstitutional to ban same sex marriage. There is nowhere in the constitution that states same sex

Although the gay community makes up a small percentage of the American population, they have and will be very influential in our society. Our
society sets many standards for people to live by, but often times these standards evolve through time in such a way that no one can predict.
Slavery serves as a good example: A survey done in the 1700's of the American colonies would probably reveal a majority of people felt slavery was
alright, some might have even pointed out that Christians used slavery in the past, as mentioned in the bible. Slowly the black population, who was
clearly the minority, gained more and more support for freedom. While there are still Americans who do not see the black community as equals, it is
safe to say that society as a whole believes discrimination against blacks is wrong.
While slavery is far more extreme of an issue than homosexuality, the two have some things in common. For example, during the civil war there were

Many people don't think twice about their representation in the media, but it's important. Think of all the times characters have been relatable in
some way. From Brave's Merida with her curly hair, to The Hunger Games' Katniss, characters in media have shaped the way I see myself. The same
is true for everyone, but it's a lot more difficult for minority groups to see themselves in the characters on TV, as well as in books, movies, and music.

and religiously scorned matrimony. Discrimination is most common among southerners and those who are strongly religious. These are the people who
are set against change typically, preferring things to stay simple. Homosexuality is seen as an issue in today's society that individuals are fighting over

In the past 50 years, the American family has undergone immense changes. In the past, families remained extremely conservative and traditional
families, upholding the ideal of marriage, which remained between a man and a woman. Recently, with the passing of Obergefell v. Hodges,same–sex
marriage is now legal in the United States. Consequently, the idea of marriage has been redefined, and, as a result, the new legislature will now have

Same–sex marriage is one of the biggest social issues in American society and the adoption of children by same–sex couples is a sensitive issue, which
is much debatable throughout the nationwide. Same–sex marriage has been legalized since 2015, showing that many are less likely to condemn
homosexual relationships now than in the past. Since adopting children is considered a legitimate family function of a marriage couple, the rights of
adopted children should be extended to same–sex couples.
My definition of marriage is a male and a female falling in love, living together, having their babies and raising their children. My understanding of
marriage came from a culture, family, school, and community. Everyone has their own different perspectives that most likely have been derived from
individual's anthropological background. Thus, Americans may have various perspectives of married homosexual families and same–sex marriage.
However, everyone is different and people should learn how to accept their differences because it is important in social life to understand and
acknowledge different viewpoints to avoid further complications and conflicts. Same–sex couples are considered as different in social norm, but that
does not mean that they are wrong.
