Ethos Pathos Logo And Logo Analysis
The image of our company is one of our core values and is present in all the communications we generate. Every company needs an image of powerful
new brand that differentiates it from its competitors and to express the values we want to convey.
Differentiation, symbolism and easy to remember are the requirements to be met by a good logo design. In addition to adapting to different uses, such
as in black and white, dark background, small or promotional applications.
That is why we need to know the company, its product and its market, and define objectives to transmit values to a potential audience.
We use typography, colours, shapes and composition to communicate a particular message. That's why we design logos are sometimes smooth, rounded,

Essay On Pathos Ethos
As this semester comes to an end it is time to look back on all the lessons learns and assignment that I have spent so many hours on. Throughout this
class we have been taught how to properly pose an argument and also perform a rhetorical analysis. The main key terms we have studied and come to
are the logical appeals; ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is a logical appeal to ethics. It is used to convince another of their character or credibility.
Logos is used to appeal to logic, this is where through research is mandatory to persuade by reason. Finally Pathos is used to appeal to emotion, it is
used to try and instill a connection with the reader and subtly persuade them to the side they are arguing for. We have completed quite a few assignments

One of the main papers that required a good amount of dedication to research was the fourth paper we were required to write, it was a choice paper
on a number of controversial topics in today's society such as: gay marriage, legalizing marijuana, legal drinking age, and assisted suicide to name a
few. My paper was written on the legalization of marijuana throughout the United States. I had to write on the history of marijuana to present a proper
background and explain the effects it imposes on the body when used. Then my information got harder to find: the medical advantages of the use of
medical marijuana and the economics benefits it can create. Some of this information was difficult to find due to the bias that exists from some, how it
should not be utilized. This struggle showed me that through research is essential to a non–biased persuasive essay. Another assignment that reinforced
this lesson is the fifth paper we were made to write, this one also a choice paper to write persuasively. For this paper I argued for the Pro–Choice side
of this controversial topic. Pro–Choice means that every women should get the option to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. The paper required great
detail on the history and the argument taking place in the current news. This was extremely difficult to find unbiased research material, even more so
than the previously mention

Logos, Ethos, And Pathos Essay
According to our texts and lectures, a good argument must be valid and strong, with evidence or premises, and a conclusion. The premises must be
true and of quality, supported by reasoning or evidence of some sort. The premises must also logically support the conclusion or there would be no
argument. The goal of an argument is to convince the reader to believe in something and to demonstrate that with careful reasoning and consideration,
the writer 's point of view is legitimate. The key approaches of reasoning in an argument are persuasion tactics called logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos is
the use of logic to persuade the reader with statements containing rational principles. Facts, such as statistics, or anything that can be proven is an
appeal to logos. Ethos is a plan of action using ethics which help define credibility, reliability, and character through direct knowledge and/or
experience in the situation at hand. Ethos is used by writers to build trust and to demonstrate their qualifications for the statements they make. Pathos
is used to connect with the reader on an emotional level using tragedy, sadness, pity, and other sentimental specifics the reader can relate to. All
three of these Greek artistic proofs are used in the readings of "Out Of Body Image," by an assistant professor of politics at Occidental College in Los
Angeles, Caroline Heldman, whom focuses her work on issues of gender and race, and "X–Large Boys," by Allisa Quart, who is a graduate of Columbia

Essay On Ethos Pathos Logos
In many papers you will notice different types of persuasion that help the writer to give a reader a better of understanding of the paper. These types
of persuasion are called rhetorical appeals. Each appeal has its own ability to give to the writer's paper, ethos is the credibility of the work the writer is
using, pathos is appealing to the audience's emotions, and lastly logos is the logical appeal. When writing a paper a person generally uses at least one
rhetorical appeal to persuade their audience. Logos is used to describe facts and evidence that supports the writer's thesis. To use logos in anessay, the
writer needs to find statistics, historical analogies and other sources of facts. I use logos to give facts behind my thesis. When...show more content...
It gives the writer a chance to show the reader that they did the research and found believable evidence . When I give a statement from a doctor or
the American Lung Association, then those sources will be credible because they know what they are talking about, and will show the reader that
I am a credible writer. Since the topic is "Cigarettes are bad for you," the sources for me to use have to be credible so that my claim is supported
and I have the evidence to back it up. Pathos is the last appeal and it gets in touch with the reader's emotions. This is probably the most important
one. If you do not give the audience a sense a feeling within the paper, then they would feel as if the paper is pointless because there is no emotion
involved. The type of emotion to get my claim across could be a very touching sad story about someone who either has come across the bad side of
cigarettes, or someone who has lost a loved one to cigarettes. Pathos and ethos are both very important to tie the story together because they show that
the writer knows what they are talking about.
Rhetorical appeals are the basis of an essay if you either want to get your point across, or you want to persuade someone to be on your side of the
argument. Using all three appeals to work together give the essay a perfect way to show the audience that your side is what they should choose. Ethos
gives the credibility of the writer, pathos gives emotions to

Ethos Pathos Logos In Julius Caesar
In Julius Caesar by Shakespeare there are three persuasions, these persuasions are called logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos, pathos, and ethos are three
utensils used by Shakespeare in Caesar's funeral presented by Mark Antony. Ethos is appeal based on the character of the speaker, Logos is appeal
based on logic or reason and Pathos is appeal based on emotion (Examples). Antony uses these three utensils to turn the Roman crowd of citizens
against the conspirators with an exciting persuasive speech.
What does logos mean? Logos can be facts that are used to persuade someone (Ethos). Mark Antony uses many facts throughout his speech. One of
the key facts in his speech is; "When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept"(Shakespeare). To use this is extremely intelligent by Mark Antony
since most of the people that he is trying to persuade aren't the richest people in Rome. Therefor, when he uses "poor" as the type of people that
Caesar cried for, the crowd thinks that it is wrong to brutally murder someone who cared so much for them that they opened their eyes to Mark Antony
and really took in what he was saying by thinking that Caesar was the best thing for them (Shakespeare)....show more content...
When Antony says, " My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it comes back to me"(Shakespeare) he wants the citizens to
believe that Caesar was a noble and trustworthy man. This makes the citizens question Brutus when he said, " Censure me in your wisdom, and awake
your senses that you may be the better judge... not that I loved Caesar less, but I loved Rome more (Shakespeare)". Brutus underestimated how
powerful of a speech that Antony was able to deliver without breaking his

Ethos, Logos, Pathos: Rhetorical Analysis
In the article "Distorted Images: Western Cultures are Exporting Their Dangerous Obsession with Thinness," author Susan McClelland's mainly
focuses on how many young women idolize the women they see on T.V. The media is making many women feel as if they need to look a certain way
to fit in with the world. Also the fact the western culture is spreading to other countries is a big issue because sicknesses, like bulimia, were not an issue
before. Many women in other countries are starting to look at the women in the United States and want to be just like them. In this article, the author
says that television, magazines, and media show...show more content...
Susan got some of her information from research that had been done in Fiji by the Harvard Medical School. The Fiji government had announced
that television was going to be brought to their country. In doing so, many knew that this might create a problem for the young women in Fiji.
After the television had been introduced to Fiji, there was a study done to see how many young women had started to form eating disorders. The
results showed that, 29 percent of the Fiji girls had in fact developed bulimia in order to look like the girls they saw on T.V. This shows that it is the
media's fault for the rise in anorexia and body alterations. All of the research that she put into this article makes me feel like I can trust her as an
author because she had background information on the topic. This issue seemed very important to her which was why she was so educated on it.
Susan McClelland definitely wanted to prove to her readers of the fact that she had knowledge about what she was talking about because of all of
the research she did, but she also used her own logic and insight for this article. Her use of logos was one of her main strong points in the article.
Susan began the article by introducing a lady named Zahara Dhanani, who talked about growing up with an eating disorder due to the fact that she
wanted to look like the women she saw on T.V. Zahara's life was hard because she started out as an overweight child because her mother was also

2.)While reading the article the author did a great job convincing the writing piece. The author uses lines with logos to use to back his statements up.
"In 1927, a school teacher in Secaucus, N.J, and named Helen Clark lost her teaching License. The reason? Somebody has seen her smoking cigarettes
after school hours" (Zimmerman). The quote meant a lot to me because it kind of give me an emotional pull but strong point with using logos.
3.)I didn't find fallacies while reading the pieces. The article was based upon the Johnathan Zimmerman options. It wasn't a factual writing piece so

Examples Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Aristotle believed Rhetoric's main purpose was to persuade an audience. (Rorty 1996). Aristotle claimed that there were 3 main appeals that the
persuader would use in order to convince the audience that their view is the right one, or that their product is the best. Aristotle would argue that these
arguments all have a basis in "common sense", meaning that the persuader can come to a conclusion based off of the audiences shared, and agreed
upon knowledge (Gregoric 2007). Logos, Ethos, and Pathos are the three type of appeals Aristotle uses to describe the rhetoric of persuasion. Logos is
the appeal to logic and reasoning. Logos primarily uses data and statistics in order to persuade an audience. However, logos can also utilize the "if A
then B" statements to come to logical conclusions using an assumed common sense for your "A" statement The appeal to logic is highly used in
scientific studies because every conclusion is based on results and numbers obtained from experiments....show more content...
This credibility can come from the persuader themselves, or a person(s) of credibility that has influence over the audience. For example, an audience is
much more likely to listen to a dietician on a healthy diet than a co–worker who is trying the latest "trend". Ethos also uses the common sense by
assuming the person(s) of credibility has had the background in order to present their conclusion.
Lastly, Pathos is the appeal to emotion. Pathos will use the emotion the persuader is appealing to and exploit that to convince the audience of their
point of view. Pathos has been used heavily in politics recently, mostly appealing to the people's emotion of anger and embarrassment in congress to
persuade the audience that the opposing party is the one to vote for. The assumption of common sense is also used in pathos. In order to appeal to one's
emotions, the audience must share the same knowledge you're basing your argument off

Pathos, Logos, and Ethos in Advertising Essay
What captures the attention of people when they view an advertisement, commercial or poster? Is it the colors, a captivating phrase or the people
pictured? While these are some of the elements often employed in advertising, we can look deeper and analyze the types of appeals that are utilized
to draw attention to certain advertisements. The persuasive methods used can be classified into three modes. These modes are pathos, logos, and
ethos. Pathos makes an appeal to emotions, logos appeals to logic or reason and ethos makes an appeal of character or credibility. Each appeal can
give support to the message that is being promoted.

One anti–smoking poster shows merely a pair of hands holding a revolver. Instead of bullets the hands are using cigarettes to load the weapon.
Listed in small print on one side of the poster are numerous conditions that may be related to smoking, such as fatal heart attacks, emphysema,
cancer, and gum disease. The phrase "Smoking kills... so why bother starting" is printed in large font at the bottom of the poster. The message of this
poster is clear: Don't Smoke. The poster is trying to portray that smoking is like holding a loaded weapon. Just as someone would be endangering
their life with the loaded gun, they would also be endangering their life with the use of cigarettes. The consequences and health issues associated with
smoking can be just as deadly as those of the gun. Ultimately, if someone smokes they are putting their life at risk. Therefore, the logical act is to never
start smoking.
Finally, a poster from the Centers for Disease Control and the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance features Katie Couric, a well known news
broadcast personality, framing her face with her hands. The question, "Are you the picture of health?' is printed on the left of the poster. Couric's quote,

Examples Of Ethos Pathos Logos
An effective piece of writing sends its message to the audience and makes them agree with them. In writing Ethos, Pathos, and logos are used to
convince the reader of author's argument. Ethos is used to build your credibility and establish why the reader should listen to you. This leads
validity to your claim because you will be seen as a credible source. After you've established you deliver your message with logos. Logos uses truths
and facts to establish your claim. Logos an important support for your claim. Finally you use Pathos to stir the audience's emotion. This is what

an emotional response from the audience. Logos: is used in an argument when the writer would like to appeal to their audience's logic. By

Alone, the use of only ethos, pathos, or logos would make for a semi–interesting story, but together, they tell a believable account of real events. Beatty
makes use of all three techniques to connect with her audience and share her own story as well as hard facts that verify the events. The powerful

Summary Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Ethos, Pathos, Logos
In the article, "Ethos, Logos, Pathos: Three Ways to Persuade", Dr. John R. Edlund explains the history of ethos, pathos, and logos. He also gives a
short description which explains where these devices came from and their functions in persuading an audience. He continues to say that Ethos is of
Greek origin, and came from Greek philosopher Aristotle. He says that Ethos relates to ethic, which is used in order to make the audience see that the
speaker has a good character. Edlund then continues to say that Ethos is an important strategy that advertisers use in order to appeal to the public.
Ethos is essentially built around the word style and choice of the speaker. He then explains logos, as using logic in order to be more

as way to just get a high paying job is should never be an actual motive. Rather, it comprises of many other assets that higher education brings with

Pathos, Ethos, and Logos Throughout his speech in Act 3, Mark Antony uses Pathos, Ethos, and Logos to subtly convince the commoners to turn

countrymen, lend me your ears!" He is attempting to make himself seem more honorable from the very beginning of his speech. Throughout the rest of
the speech, he constantly questions Brutus's Ethos. Brutus, who was believed to be honorable, had not been questioned on what he said until Mark
Antony began to contrast his word to Caesar's. Mark Antony uses Pathos, or the emotional appeal, to help show that it was not right to kill Caesar by

Ethos Pathos Logo And Logo Analysis

  • 1. Ethos Pathos Logo And Logo Analysis The image of our company is one of our core values and is present in all the communications we generate. Every company needs an image of powerful new brand that differentiates it from its competitors and to express the values we want to convey. Differentiation, symbolism and easy to remember are the requirements to be met by a good logo design. In addition to adapting to different uses, such as in black and white, dark background, small or promotional applications. That is why we need to know the company, its product and its market, and define objectives to transmit values to a potential audience. We use typography, colours, shapes and composition to communicate a particular message. That's why we design logos are sometimes smooth, rounded, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Pathos Ethos As this semester comes to an end it is time to look back on all the lessons learns and assignment that I have spent so many hours on. Throughout this class we have been taught how to properly pose an argument and also perform a rhetorical analysis. The main key terms we have studied and come to are the logical appeals; ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is a logical appeal to ethics. It is used to convince another of their character or credibility. Logos is used to appeal to logic, this is where through research is mandatory to persuade by reason. Finally Pathos is used to appeal to emotion, it is used to try and instill a connection with the reader and subtly persuade them to the side they are arguing for. We have completed quite a few assignments ...show more content... One of the main papers that required a good amount of dedication to research was the fourth paper we were required to write, it was a choice paper on a number of controversial topics in today's society such as: gay marriage, legalizing marijuana, legal drinking age, and assisted suicide to name a few. My paper was written on the legalization of marijuana throughout the United States. I had to write on the history of marijuana to present a proper background and explain the effects it imposes on the body when used. Then my information got harder to find: the medical advantages of the use of medical marijuana and the economics benefits it can create. Some of this information was difficult to find due to the bias that exists from some, how it should not be utilized. This struggle showed me that through research is essential to a non–biased persuasive essay. Another assignment that reinforced this lesson is the fifth paper we were made to write, this one also a choice paper to write persuasively. For this paper I argued for the Pro–Choice side of this controversial topic. Pro–Choice means that every women should get the option to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. The paper required great detail on the history and the argument taking place in the current news. This was extremely difficult to find unbiased research material, even more so than the previously mention Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Logos, Ethos, And Pathos Essay According to our texts and lectures, a good argument must be valid and strong, with evidence or premises, and a conclusion. The premises must be true and of quality, supported by reasoning or evidence of some sort. The premises must also logically support the conclusion or there would be no argument. The goal of an argument is to convince the reader to believe in something and to demonstrate that with careful reasoning and consideration, the writer 's point of view is legitimate. The key approaches of reasoning in an argument are persuasion tactics called logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos is the use of logic to persuade the reader with statements containing rational principles. Facts, such as statistics, or anything that can be proven is an appeal to logos. Ethos is a plan of action using ethics which help define credibility, reliability, and character through direct knowledge and/or experience in the situation at hand. Ethos is used by writers to build trust and to demonstrate their qualifications for the statements they make. Pathos is used to connect with the reader on an emotional level using tragedy, sadness, pity, and other sentimental specifics the reader can relate to. All three of these Greek artistic proofs are used in the readings of "Out Of Body Image," by an assistant professor of politics at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Caroline Heldman, whom focuses her work on issues of gender and race, and "X–Large Boys," by Allisa Quart, who is a graduate of Columbia Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Essay On Ethos Pathos Logos In many papers you will notice different types of persuasion that help the writer to give a reader a better of understanding of the paper. These types of persuasion are called rhetorical appeals. Each appeal has its own ability to give to the writer's paper, ethos is the credibility of the work the writer is using, pathos is appealing to the audience's emotions, and lastly logos is the logical appeal. When writing a paper a person generally uses at least one rhetorical appeal to persuade their audience. Logos is used to describe facts and evidence that supports the writer's thesis. To use logos in anessay, the writer needs to find statistics, historical analogies and other sources of facts. I use logos to give facts behind my thesis. When...show more content... It gives the writer a chance to show the reader that they did the research and found believable evidence . When I give a statement from a doctor or the American Lung Association, then those sources will be credible because they know what they are talking about, and will show the reader that I am a credible writer. Since the topic is "Cigarettes are bad for you," the sources for me to use have to be credible so that my claim is supported and I have the evidence to back it up. Pathos is the last appeal and it gets in touch with the reader's emotions. This is probably the most important one. If you do not give the audience a sense a feeling within the paper, then they would feel as if the paper is pointless because there is no emotion involved. The type of emotion to get my claim across could be a very touching sad story about someone who either has come across the bad side of cigarettes, or someone who has lost a loved one to cigarettes. Pathos and ethos are both very important to tie the story together because they show that the writer knows what they are talking about. Rhetorical appeals are the basis of an essay if you either want to get your point across, or you want to persuade someone to be on your side of the argument. Using all three appeals to work together give the essay a perfect way to show the audience that your side is what they should choose. Ethos gives the credibility of the writer, pathos gives emotions to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Ethos Pathos Logos In Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar by Shakespeare there are three persuasions, these persuasions are called logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos, pathos, and ethos are three utensils used by Shakespeare in Caesar's funeral presented by Mark Antony. Ethos is appeal based on the character of the speaker, Logos is appeal based on logic or reason and Pathos is appeal based on emotion (Examples). Antony uses these three utensils to turn the Roman crowd of citizens against the conspirators with an exciting persuasive speech. What does logos mean? Logos can be facts that are used to persuade someone (Ethos). Mark Antony uses many facts throughout his speech. One of the key facts in his speech is; "When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept"(Shakespeare). To use this is extremely intelligent by Mark Antony since most of the people that he is trying to persuade aren't the richest people in Rome. Therefor, when he uses "poor" as the type of people that Caesar cried for, the crowd thinks that it is wrong to brutally murder someone who cared so much for them that they opened their eyes to Mark Antony and really took in what he was saying by thinking that Caesar was the best thing for them (Shakespeare)....show more content... When Antony says, " My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it comes back to me"(Shakespeare) he wants the citizens to believe that Caesar was a noble and trustworthy man. Ethos Pathos Logos Essays Amanda Stanford Professor Eva Fuchs English 1001 10/16/12 Ethos, Logos, Pathos: Rhetorical Analysis In the article "Distorted Images: Western Cultures are Exporting Their Dangerous Obsession with Thinness," author Susan McClelland's mainly focuses on how many young women idolize the women they see on T.V. The media is making many women feel as if they need to look a certain way to fit in with the world. Also the fact the western culture is spreading to other countries is a big issue because sicknesses, like bulimia, were not an issue before. Many women in other countries are starting to look at the women in the United States and want to be just like them. In this article, the author says that television, magazines, and media show...show more content... Susan got some of her information from research that had been done in Fiji by the Harvard Medical School. The Fiji government had announced that television was going to be brought to their country. In doing so, many knew that this might create a problem for the young women in Fiji. After the television had been introduced to Fiji, there was a study done to see how many young women had started to form eating disorders. The results showed that, 29 percent of the Fiji girls had in fact developed bulimia in order to look like the girls they saw on T.V. This shows that it is the media's fault for the rise in anorexia and body alterations. All of the research that she put into this article makes me feel like I can trust her as an author because she had background information on the topic. This issue seemed very important to her which was why she was so educated on it. Susan McClelland definitely wanted to prove to her readers of the fact that she had knowledge about what she was talking about because of all of the research she did, but she also used her own logic and insight for this article. Her use of logos was one of her main strong points in the article. Susan began the article by introducing a lady named Zahara Dhanani, who talked about growing up with an eating disorder due to the fact that she wanted to look like the women she saw on T.V. Zahara's life was hard because she started out as an overweight child because her mother was also Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Somebody has seen her smoking cigarettes after school hours" (Zimmerman). The quote meant a lot to me because it kind of give me an emotional pull but strong point with using logos. 3.)I didn't find fallacies while reading the pieces. • 9. Examples Of Ethos Pathos Logos Aristotle believed Rhetoric's main purpose was to persuade an audience. (Rorty 1996). Aristotle claimed that there were 3 main appeals that the persuader would use in order to convince the audience that their view is the right one, or that their product is the best. Aristotle would argue that these arguments all have a basis in "common sense", meaning that the persuader can come to a conclusion based off of the audiences shared, and agreed upon knowledge (Gregoric 2007). Logos, Ethos, and Pathos are the three type of appeals Aristotle uses to describe the rhetoric of persuasion. Logos is the appeal to logic and reasoning. Logos primarily uses data and statistics in order to persuade an audience. However, logos can also utilize the "if A then B" statements to come to logical conclusions using an assumed common sense for your "A" statement The appeal to logic is highly used in scientific studies because every conclusion is based on results and numbers obtained from experiments....show more content... This credibility can come from the persuader themselves, or a person(s) of credibility that has influence over the audience. For example, an audience is much more likely to listen to a dietician on a healthy diet than a co–worker who is trying the latest "trend". Ethos also uses the common sense by assuming the person(s) of credibility has had the background in order to present their conclusion. Lastly, Pathos is the appeal to emotion. Pathos will use the emotion the persuader is appealing to and exploit that to convince the audience of their point of view. Pathos has been used heavily in politics recently, mostly appealing to the people's emotion of anger and embarrassment in congress to persuade the audience that the opposing party is the one to vote for. The assumption of common sense is also used in pathos. In order to appeal to one's emotions, the audience must share the same knowledge you're basing your argument off Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Pathos, Logos, and Ethos in Advertising Essay What captures the attention of people when they view an advertisement, commercial or poster? Is it the colors, a captivating phrase or the people pictured? While these are some of the elements often employed in advertising, we can look deeper and analyze the types of appeals that are utilized to draw attention to certain advertisements. The persuasive methods used can be classified into three modes. These modes are pathos, logos, and ethos. Pathos makes an appeal to emotions, logos appeals to logic or reason and ethos makes an appeal of character or credibility. Each appeal can give support to the message that is being promoted. Instead of bullets the hands are using cigarettes to load the weapon. Listed in small print on one side of the poster are numerous conditions that may be related to smoking, such as fatal heart attacks, emphysema, cancer, and gum disease. The phrase "Smoking kills... so why bother starting" is printed in large font at the bottom of the poster. The message of this poster is clear: Don't Smoke. The poster is trying to portray that smoking is like holding a loaded weapon. Just as someone would be endangering their life with the loaded gun, they would also be endangering their life with the use of cigarettes. The consequences and health issues associated with smoking can be just as deadly as those of the gun. Ultimately, if someone smokes they are putting their life at risk. Therefore, the logical act is to never start smoking. Finally, a poster from the Centers for Disease Control and the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance features Katie Couric, a well known news broadcast personality, framing her face with her hands. The question, "Are you the picture of health?' is printed on the left of the poster. Couric's quote, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In writing Ethos, Pathos, and logos are used to convince the reader of author's argument. Ethos is used to build your credibility and establish why the reader should listen to you.
