Critical and Creative Thinking
Critical and creative thinking is regaining its popularity in the global education scene. This resurgence in popularity can be attributed to the demands of
the evolving economic, political, social and technological world in the 21st century. The competitiveness of the global market demands corporations to
constantly innovate. To do so, corporations need employees who are able to think critically and creatively.
Barren of natural resources, Singapore depends on its human population for economic survival. Education then becomes a key instrument in promoting
the state's economic development. In 1959, the Ministry of Education issued a report, asserting that, 'the government's education policy is designed to
equip the youth of the State with...show more content...
Critical thinking may result in a learner realizing that there is a discrepancy between his perceptions and observations. Unable to make sense of the
new observations, a learner will try to return to the state of equilibrium. This motivation could spur creative thinking and learning at the same time, as
the learner think of ways to either assimilate or accommodate the new information. What is the implication of this on the current Singapore classroom?
Before we delve into that, let's take a look at two constructivist perspectives ā€“ the nativist and the empiricist. The nativists believe that construction of
schemas is solely triggered by the learner and that learners possess the innate ability to understand all concepts in this world. Teachers and other
external interventions have little role in learning. Contrary to that, the empiricists believe that humans are tabula rasa. Learning is only possible if it is
initiated and mediated by others. Hence, social interaction is a key stimulus in construction of schemas. Departing from the nativist perspective, student
autonomy is an important element in the classroom. Students drive the lessons and take full responsibility over their learning. Based on the empiricist
perspective, interaction between teachers and students is encouraged. Combining these two elements, the constructivist

Reflection On Creative Thinking
The purpose of this activity was to serve as a first day getā€“toā€“knowā€“you exercise that would integrate math skills that the students already know into
creative thinking about how they can apply those skills. The students have an opportunity to open up about defining information that they normally
might not, given the restraint that it has to be quantitative. It also allows them to experience an aspect of math that they may not have considered
before: exploration. It gets them to use backwards thinking to solidify their grasp on basic operations, order of operations, and fractions by
implementing SMPs #2, #4, and #7. The lesson was an overall success in the classroom, and although not everything went according to plan, I think the
adjustments that need to be made are clear upon reflection. The main concept from our Foundations class that I utilized was student centered learning,
which showed itself in a number of ways. A large amount of the work was up to the students to figure out after my brief and minimal example
walkthrough. It was important for this task in particular that I didn't push them too much in any direction, as it would taint the creative process that was
such a central element. It also meant frequent data collection and checkā€“ins to make sure that the students had clear instruction and that they were
sharing their ideas with their classmates. Finally, I used student centered learning in the scaffolding of the entire task by breaking it into steps that

Encouraging Creative Thinking And Expression
Encouraging creative thinking and expression are daily goals for teachers. Engaging with students is a form of promoting creativity and established a
comfortable relationship with the environment that they are in. This is good for the youngster to express his or her interests. The children learn and
the teachers gain trust from the student when he or she is allowing them to get familiar with his environment, leading a close relationship with the
teacher and the classroom. This makes a more depth concentration academically when he or she has the curiosity about learning. Also during playing
time teachers can benefit in learning the individual interest of the kid when he/she is playing in the classroom. Teachers understand that is very
important to be creative, because this leads to learning. Also, as the phrase said, "It 's not the product, it 's the process."(Bredekamp,402). It is a
matter of gaining satisfaction from their creative activity. Having a variety of creative plays in the classroom is a requirement to promote their created
interests in the classroom . Teachers need to find ways to acquire as many Manipulatives that are interesting for the children . Also the Manipulatives
have to be appropriate for the children to influence the interest in promoting the creativity in a child 's mind. Communication is a plus in exploring
creativity. Encourage the child by interacting with them at all times can promote such behavior. Talking to them while

The Importance Of Creative Thinking In Education
One of the growing struggles educators face is poor student attitudes. Behavior problems and lack of motivation manifest in education when students
have misconceptions and poor attitudes about education. As scripted and standardized lessons have become the expectation and educational norm,
many graduates of an educational program will enter the workforce with the ability to regurgitate information but lack the skills needed for innovation
and problemā€“solving in their careers and daily lives. In preparing students to be successful in education and furtur careers, teachers must be willing to
step off the beaten path to spark a deeper connection to the material for the students. In creating classrooms that foster motivation for learning,
educators must be willing to selfā€“assess their teaching methods and styles to gauge if their classroom mechanisms are effectively engaging the students.
Many educators do not understand the importance of teaching creative thinking in the classroom. Creative thinking is often misconceived as having to
do with creations or crafts and is only utilized by musicians and artists; however, creative thinking is defined as "a way of looking at problems or
situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions, which may look unsettling at first." (Drapeau, 2014). In a wellā€“known TED
talk, Ken Robinson noted that the workforce students currently in elementary school will enter at the end of their education is unpredictable and

Design Thinking Essay examples
Design thinking is a process for practical, creative resolution of problems or issues that looks for an improved future result. It is the essential ability to
combine empathy, creativity and rationality to meet user needs and drive business success. Unlike analytical thinking, design thinking is a creative
process based around the building up of ideas. There are no judgments early on the design thinking (Simon, 1969, p. 55). Design thinking includes
imagination and reason, a combination of convergent and divergent thought, and creativity. Design thinking might be thought of as dialectic, or
conversation. It involves design wisdom, judgment, and knowledge. Lastly, design thinking is skill (Hegeman, 2008).

Deep understanding of the context of client and user needs is generated through analytical observation or ethnographic research that task seek to
understand the fundamental use and usability needs of the customer or user and the meaningā€“based needs (Archer, 1984, 64). In the observation phase,
data is collected to elicit the stories that help to understand culture and meaning in variety of forms: field notes, focus groups, interviews, transcripts,
photographs, video and audio tapes, participant or nonā€“participant observation, and formal ethnographic (Beckman & Barry, 2007).
The second stage of design thinking is frameworks the design problem: this phase requires processing and a large amount of information ā€“which is
collected from the observation phaseā€“ but at the same time being able to see what is missing for the customers and users information. The ultimate
purpose of the framing phase is to reframe the design problem, to come up with a new story to tell about how the user might solve his or her problem,
or to come up with a new way of seeing problem, to identify interesting dimension, to identifying and formulation the goals, to identifying external and
internal constrains (Oxman, 1997, p. 344), to create design brief ā€“outline programmeā€“ and time lines and providing the boundaries of the design field
(Archer, 1984, p. 67; Cross, 2006, p. 32).
After framing and reframing the problem, the design innovation process moves to the third stage:

2.Brainstorm possible options:
Šæā€šĀ§I could make a study routine and set aside 15 minutes every night.
Šæā€šĀ§I could make small flashcards that are portable.
Šæā€šĀ§I could download an app on my phone which would make learning more convenient.
3.Set criteria to evaluate each option

4.Evaluate each option you've proposed
Šæā€šĀ§Study Routine
This isn't realistic for me because I am so busy during the day that I end up getting tired. If I am tired, then I won't study whole heartedly, or keep to
the schedule.
Šæā€šĀ§Flashcards
This is a good idea because it is not only realistic for me, but also efficient. When I am running errands, or sitting in a waiting room, I can just pull
these cards out and study.
Šæā€šĀ§App
This is also a good idea because it meets my criteria, and most language apps are free and very effective. I can also use this whenever I am free, and it

The Development Of Creative Thinking Essay
The term "creativity" is close to the concept of art. People usually conclude that the latter is given by birth, while the creative approach can be
developed. It would seem that creativity is a particular talent, and not everyone can use it. Despite this assumption, in fact, it is possible to work out
this type of response to the problems. It is only vital to find the right approach and develop specific tactics aimed at the formation of creative thinking.
Time goes fast, rapidly evolving technology going forward and the progress requires human attention and concentration, flexible thinking, and quick
adaptation to what is happening. The world is constantly in need of interchange of different problems with the help of creative approaches. Cathy
Davidson, the author of "Project Classroom Makeover", provides a significant work on the role of creative thinking and its transformation due to
changes in the digital era, as well as the process of forming of the selfā€“ confidence during the initial stages of education with the development of
imagination and teamwork. In this work, the scientist insists on reconsidering of the very concept of education because of the development of digital
age, multitasking society, the influence of the Internet. Also, the author insists on the development of such qualities as initiative, mobility, flexibility,
the need for selfā€“development, readiness for unconventional and creative solutions. In this regard, the objective necessity becomes the

Change, creativity and innovation are essential elements for survival and growth of an organization. Creativity is vital for the birth of fresh and
beneficial ideas. Creative thinking allows groups and individuals to solve problems or stimulate to think differently in order to bring forth fruitful
ideas. The above mentioned creative thinking enabled our team of six different personalities to come together and implement a plan to solve a complex
problem in a hospital. Our assigned task was to recommend a plan in order to alleviate hospital readmission among elderly population within thirty days
of discharge. In this paper the author is narrating the team dynamics, functionalities and personal competencies in the process of recommending a
change in the system. As a member in the innovation leadership team the author is also reflecting on the assessment, capacity for innovation in the
organization which is the hospital where the team is assigned.
Organizations
Organizations are dynamic living systems and change is an inherent capacity of living systems. So organizations need people who can perceive,
understand and work effectively in order to make positive changes (Dawson & Andriopoulos, 2014). Our team assessed the organization which was
the hospital where the readmissions of elderly population have increased. The assessment revealed the possible causative factors behind the
readmission of elderly before thirty days of discharge. Patients may not recollect all the discharge

Theory of Knowledge

TOK Essay Response: Critical and Creative Thinking Since the dawn of humanity, man has sought to gain further insight on life through attaining
knowledge. Knowledge can be defined as any information gained through personal experience. The means of obtaining knowledge include four main
branches: reason, perception, language, and emotion. Despite the means, all knowledge is formulated through the process of thinking. Thinking refers
to the use of the mind to gain understanding of the world. In the modern educational system, students are trained to think critically and apply gathered
information to generate knowledge. However, schools also stress the idea of being original, using one's own creative...show more content...
In my IB Chemistry class earlier this year, my class was asked to design a neutralization lab. In our lab, we had the task of reaching a neutralization
of an acid and a base. Each student designed his or her own unique experiment to cater to his or her individual creative tastes. I chose to do a titration
with a strong base and a weak acid. In contrast, one of my peers chose to use litmus paper to test the acidities of various liquids. A common conclusion
can be reached through creative means. Furthermore, creativity plays a prominent role in the study of astronomy. The universe is such a vast space that
holds much of the unknown. Dating back to the ancient Greeks, people have attempted to make sense of the universe, to understand its extensity. The
ancient civilizations originally used their imagination to picture how they believed the universe to look like. There were no microscopes or rockets to
allow travel into space. There was no prior knowledge to evaluate. Creative thinking was used prior to critical thinking. Imagination created the image
of space, then critical thinking evaluated its validity. A counterclaim could be that modern technology has allowed humans to observe extraterrestrial
activity as well as enter space. Therefore, in modern astronomy, people use critical thinking to analyze their observations to understand the universe. I
would argue that although advancement in

Knowledge is generated through critical and creative thinking. Creative thinking is something new or original that is created with value. Critical
thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions and validates or invalidates a current belief or something that is said to be previously true.
Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and
creativity? These two types of thinking can be easily separated in regards to concrete or realistic ideas compared to abstract or original ideas however
to generate new, acceptable knowledge critical and creative thinking must interact together. The questioning of established beliefs with the creation of

Knowledge must have background facts to be considered true and mathematics must use reason to justify their formulas or methods. For example,
memorizing the area under a bell curve is very different from understanding how it is derived. Proofs are useful when proving mathematical concepts
although they are not concrete and harder to understand. Creative aspects must be considered when trying to derive a difficult proof. Creative problem
solving involving mathematics can use sense perception as a way of knowing. In these problems, real life situations allow for the organization of ideas
and require that the student's attention be focused on the actual understanding of the concepts rather than the usual memorization of facts from
concrete problems. For example, calculating the replanting of trees in a forest would depend on the circumstances surrounding the problems and
factors would be dependant on the situation. Is creating a personal solution to the problems more effective than searching for existing solutions? In
regards to mathematics, if a solution is known to exist using methods already established, there is no need to search for additional or new solutions.
There are always exceptions to any case and new knowledge could form from a completely new and personal solution. This could create new
knowledge using creative thinking and could also create a more efficient solution to the one previously used. Applied mathematics uses both

Critical Thinking Case Study
Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically
and creatively in similar situations. Critical thinking to begin with "is the use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a
desirable outcome" (Sternberg, Roediger, and Helpern, 2007). One of the many situations where critical thinking should have been utilized to achieve a
desirable (and perhaps better) outcome was when the International Monetary Fund IMF failed to take action against Straussā€“Kahn, its head at the time,
for having an illicit affair with a subordinate by the name Nagy. That was in 2008. Despite Straussā€“Kahn admitting that the said affair had indeed taken
place, "the IMF took no action against Straussā€“Kahn other than to say that he had shown poor judgment" (McGreal, 2011). Several years down the
line, Straussā€“Kahn was arrested on sexual harassment charges thus causing negative publicity to IMF. One of the key benefits of thinking critically is
that such kind of thinking increases the likelihood of achieving desirable outcomes (Sternberg, Roediger, and Helpern, 2007). This is more so the case
given that critical thinking encourages an extensive interrogation of facts, openā€“mindedness, prudence in decision making, etc. Define free will, truth,
knowledge, and opinion. Explain how we use them to form thoughts. Over time, the terms opinion, knowledge, truth, and free will have

Employers often require evidence that applicants have received a degree from an accredited school or program (Accrediting Council for

Accreditation. The next important factor that was critically assessed and compared was the areas of study that each school offered. When selecting a
school it was critical to ensure that the school provided the area of study that I was planning to pursue. Since I was interested in the working in the
helping profession, it was important that I selected a university that offered a quality Human Services curriculum. This critical assessment eliminated
one school, leaving two addition schools for me to assess and distinguish which one I would attend. Lastly, I considered the cost and location of the
university. It was very important that I attended a university that was affordable and not too far from my hometown. Critical thinking assisted me in

The fast evolution and take up of technology, especially by young people, has a essential influence on education, challenging educators and schools to
discuss the changed learning patterns and needs of their students. Creativity and innovation in education is not just an opportunity anymore, but a
necessity (Bottino, Forcheri, & Molfino, 1998). Which is why we debate that creativity and innovation are deeply connected but it has also proposed a
differentiated approach for the field of education in which creativity is more richly associated to learning, and innovation to teaching.
NEW KNOWLEDGE GAIN FROM COURSE
One of the most significant information I gained while going through this course was the development of creative learning and innovative teaching.
This style of learning and teaching would better prepare our students for academic, and real life success. Technologies play a vital role in learners' lives
and can enable educational change towards innovative and creative school cultures. Creative learning is any learning, which involves comprehension
and recognition. Helping students to focus upon their thinking skills basing everything on the empowerment of learning. Innovation is the process
leading to creative thinking, implementation of new methods, tools and contents that could benefit creative potential (Russ, 1996).

Essay on Critical Thinking
The concepts of critical thinking and creative thinking are both gaining increasing importance in the world today. Critical thinking allows people to
understand difficult concepts in a manner that is clearer and more defined. They can more readily understand those concepts if they employ critical
thinking. In all portions of everyday life, a person is expected to make independent judgments. Those judgments are based on experience and
knowledge. Without the ability to think critically, every situation that a person comes across would have to be considered in isolation from all other
situations. When a person encounters a problem that is a new one, he or she may be able to use critical thinking to solve those problems. One...show

Critical thinking also helps in decisionā€“making. Both problem solving and decisionā€“making abilities are vital to a prosperous business. Persons who
are critical thinkers can make a difference in the companies in which they are employed. Today?s corporations must first recognize that there is a real
need for critical thinkers. It is important for both the top management down the line. Critical thinking must be taught and built in to the way the
company or organization performs its business. In fact, companies and organizations must embrace the concept of critical thinking. Critical thinking
can lead to success story after success story. This type of impact gives any company or organization credibility. According to Supon, one of the
fundamental purposes of teaching critical thinking is to enhance the abilities of students to become critical thinkers. Corporate leaders, educational
researchers, employers, and parents have continually pushed teachers to assist their students in the development of critical thinking ability. Critical
thinking is a skill that ?involved not only knowledge of content by also concept formation and analysis, reasoning and drawing conclusions, recognizing
and avoiding contradiction, and other essential cognitive activities? (Supon, 1998). There are proposed reasons for the emphasis that is currently on
critical thinking. Many factors can be related to this emphasis. They include the societal factors of economic shifts

Many believe that people are born with an innate level of creativity that is later on influenced by the environment in which they are raised. Schools are

We can define creativity as the act of producing novel ideas that are perceived to be unique and useful in society. However because of our
technological advancements our society undergoes vast and rapid changes. Oana DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar in her article "The Teacher's Creative Attitudesā€“ An
Influence Factor Of The Students' Creative Attitudes" states that because of these unavoidable problems " one needs a wellā€“developed capacity to
adapt to new situations and to find new ways to do things. In this context, creativity proves to be a very important resource that might help individuals
to deal in a better way with social and technological changes". So, why is it that our education system throws aside the development of the creative
aspects of students? Many believe that creativity can be one of both things, a genius trait or a trade off. As Picasso stated before "we are all born with an
innate ability for creativity, it is a matter of defining it". Through a variety of research DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar states "that although some people have extreme
levels of talent, everyone with normal human capacities is capable of producing creative work under the right circumstances". The notion of tradeā€“off
comes from the idea of being able to excel in one area and diverge in another. However "there is no tradeā€“off between creativity and productivity,
efficiency, or work quality" ( Oana DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar, The Teacher's Creative Attitudes). One does not correlate with the other, or take away ones

Critical and Creative Thinking Essay
Critical and creative thinking are fundamental to human intellectual progress and artifacts thereof (Dewey, Elder, Csikszentmihalyi, Rosenman, &

leftā€“brain and a creative thinker primarily uses the rightā€“brain, both types of thinkers tend to think outside the box, but in different ways. There is no
direct link between critical and creative thinking, but they each have different dimensions of thought that are used. Critical thinking is convergent

A few years later, my father passed away also. They were the only 2 men that I had known in my life, so it was an incident in my life that left
gaping holes. At the time, I loved in North Carolina and that is also the place that both my late husband and father resided at the time of their

Carolina at the time and a large majority of other family that lived in a neighboring state. It was a huge decision to make at that time, my children

make such a huge change in my life. I used the critical thinking process to determine answers to some of the questions I seemed to have the most
difficulty in answering, such as:
1.What might happen to my children if I leave?
2.What do I know about the state/city I am moving to?
3.What will I do to afford the cost of living change?
4.What is the value of moving versus the value of staying?

Unlike the logical, step by step approach of the critical thinking process, the process of creative thinking involves the development of an original and
fresh idea, perhaps through brainstorming or sudden inspiration, that is typically a proposed solution or explanation for a problem. Such a process
could be attributed to the formation of numerous theories within the disciplines of the natural sciences. Such scientific theories include theories such as
Einstein's theory of a static universe, in which Einstein asserted that the universe maintained a constant size or volume, as opposed to the idea that
it could be growing or shrinking. The theory sounded viable as an explanation, and they allowed for Einstein to resolve some of the issues with his
well known Theory of Relativity. However, what had seemed to be a plausible theory would later be found to be impossible, due to the existence of
red shifts which were discovered by Edwin Hubble. As such, the theory of the static universe cannot be said to be knowledge since it does not satisfy
the conditions of the Coherence Theory since the existence of red shifts actually denies the possibility of a static universe. This brings to light the major
problem in the use of creative thinking to develop knowledge, which is that creative thinking only generates ideas and theories that might be

Critical Thinking Skills for 21st Century Success

  • 1. Critical and Creative Thinking Critical and creative thinking is regaining its popularity in the global education scene. This resurgence in popularity can be attributed to the demands of the evolving economic, political, social and technological world in the 21st century. The competitiveness of the global market demands corporations to constantly innovate. To do so, corporations need employees who are able to think critically and creatively. Barren of natural resources, Singapore depends on its human population for economic survival. Education then becomes a key instrument in promoting the state's economic development. In 1959, the Ministry of Education issued a report, asserting that, 'the government's education policy is designed to equip the youth of the State with...show more content... Critical thinking may result in a learner realizing that there is a discrepancy between his perceptions and observations. Unable to make sense of the new observations, a learner will try to return to the state of equilibrium. This motivation could spur creative thinking and learning at the same time, as the learner think of ways to either assimilate or accommodate the new information. What is the implication of this on the current Singapore classroom? Before we delve into that, let's take a look at two constructivist perspectives ā€“ the nativist and the empiricist. The nativists believe that construction of schemas is solely triggered by the learner and that learners possess the innate ability to understand all concepts in this world. Teachers and other external interventions have little role in learning. Contrary to that, the empiricists believe that humans are tabula rasa. Learning is only possible if it is initiated and mediated by others. Hence, social interaction is a key stimulus in construction of schemas. Departing from the nativist perspective, student autonomy is an important element in the classroom. Students drive the lessons and take full responsibility over their learning. Based on the empiricist perspective, interaction between teachers and students is encouraged. Combining these two elements, the constructivist Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflection On Creative Thinking The purpose of this activity was to serve as a first day getā€“toā€“knowā€“you exercise that would integrate math skills that the students already know into creative thinking about how they can apply those skills. The students have an opportunity to open up about defining information that they normally might not, given the restraint that it has to be quantitative. It also allows them to experience an aspect of math that they may not have considered before: exploration. It gets them to use backwards thinking to solidify their grasp on basic operations, order of operations, and fractions by implementing SMPs #2, #4, and #7. The lesson was an overall success in the classroom, and although not everything went according to plan, I think the adjustments that need to be made are clear upon reflection. The main concept from our Foundations class that I utilized was student centered learning, which showed itself in a number of ways. A large amount of the work was up to the students to figure out after my brief and minimal example walkthrough. It was important for this task in particular that I didn't push them too much in any direction, as it would taint the creative process that was such a central element. It also meant frequent data collection and checkā€“ins to make sure that the students had clear instruction and that they were sharing their ideas with their classmates. Finally, I used student centered learning in the scaffolding of the entire task by breaking it into steps that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Encouraging Creative Thinking And Expression Encouraging creative thinking and expression are daily goals for teachers. Engaging with students is a form of promoting creativity and established a comfortable relationship with the environment that they are in. This is good for the youngster to express his or her interests. The children learn and the teachers gain trust from the student when he or she is allowing them to get familiar with his environment, leading a close relationship with the teacher and the classroom. This makes a more depth concentration academically when he or she has the curiosity about learning. Also during playing time teachers can benefit in learning the individual interest of the kid when he/she is playing in the classroom. Teachers understand that is very important to be creative, because this leads to learning. Also, as the phrase said, "It 's not the product, it 's the process."(Bredekamp,402). It is a matter of gaining satisfaction from their creative activity. Having a variety of creative plays in the classroom is a requirement to promote their created interests in the classroom . Teachers need to find ways to acquire as many Manipulatives that are interesting for the children . Also the Manipulatives have to be appropriate for the children to influence the interest in promoting the creativity in a child 's mind. Communication is a plus in exploring creativity. Encourage the child by interacting with them at all times can promote such behavior. Talking to them while Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Importance Of Creative Thinking In Education One of the growing struggles educators face is poor student attitudes. Behavior problems and lack of motivation manifest in education when students have misconceptions and poor attitudes about education. As scripted and standardized lessons have become the expectation and educational norm, many graduates of an educational program will enter the workforce with the ability to regurgitate information but lack the skills needed for innovation and problemā€“solving in their careers and daily lives. In preparing students to be successful in education and furtur careers, teachers must be willing to step off the beaten path to spark a deeper connection to the material for the students. In creating classrooms that foster motivation for learning, educators must be willing to selfā€“assess their teaching methods and styles to gauge if their classroom mechanisms are effectively engaging the students. Many educators do not understand the importance of teaching creative thinking in the classroom. Creative thinking is often misconceived as having to do with creations or crafts and is only utilized by musicians and artists; however, creative thinking is defined as "a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions, which may look unsettling at first." (Drapeau, 2014). In a wellā€“known TED talk, Ken Robinson noted that the workforce students currently in elementary school will enter at the end of their education is unpredictable and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Design Thinking Essay examples Design thinking is a process for practical, creative resolution of problems or issues that looks for an improved future result. It is the essential ability to combine empathy, creativity and rationality to meet user needs and drive business success. Unlike analytical thinking, design thinking is a creative process based around the building up of ideas. There are no judgments early on the design thinking (Simon, 1969, p. 55). Design thinking includes imagination and reason, a combination of convergent and divergent thought, and creativity. Design thinking might be thought of as dialectic, or conversation. It involves design wisdom, judgment, and knowledge. Lastly, design thinking is skill (Hegeman, 2008). Design thinking process has...show more content... Deep understanding of the context of client and user needs is generated through analytical observation or ethnographic research that task seek to understand the fundamental use and usability needs of the customer or user and the meaningā€“based needs (Archer, 1984, 64). In the observation phase, data is collected to elicit the stories that help to understand culture and meaning in variety of forms: field notes, focus groups, interviews, transcripts, photographs, video and audio tapes, participant or nonā€“participant observation, and formal ethnographic (Beckman & Barry, 2007). The second stage of design thinking is frameworks the design problem: this phase requires processing and a large amount of information ā€“which is collected from the observation phaseā€“ but at the same time being able to see what is missing for the customers and users information. The ultimate purpose of the framing phase is to reframe the design problem, to come up with a new story to tell about how the user might solve his or her problem, or to come up with a new way of seeing problem, to identify interesting dimension, to identifying and formulation the goals, to identifying external and internal constrains (Oxman, 1997, p. 344), to create design brief ā€“outline programmeā€“ and time lines and providing the boundaries of the design field (Archer, 1984, p. 67; Cross, 2006, p. 32). • 6. 1. What is the difference between Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking and Focused Thinking? o Creative thinkingā€“ Going beyond the limitations and being fresh in one's ideas, while having a generative purpose. o Critical thinkingā€“ Is evaluative in nature and analyses a particular thing. Also, this has an analytical purpose. o Focused thinkā€“ thinking critically and creatively 2. Summarize the advice and what you need to do in the Four ā€“Part Model of Critical Thinking: Reasoningā€“ Reasoning is the foundation of critical thinking, and is the ability to reach a conclusion from one or more arguments. Problem solving. List the Problem Solving Steps from the text and then plug in your situation to show you can use these steps to solve a problem. 1.Define the problem: Šæā€šĀ§One of my problems is that I am falling behind on my "learning a foreign language" goal. 2.Brainstorm possible options: Šæā€šĀ§I could make a study routine and set aside 15 minutes every night. Šæā€šĀ§I could make small flashcards that are portable. Šæā€šĀ§I could download an app on my phone which would make learning more convenient. 3.Set criteria to evaluate each option Šæā€šĀ§Realistic Šæā€šĀ§Efficient 4.Evaluate each option you've proposed Šæā€šĀ§Study Routine This isn't realistic for me because I am so busy during the day that I end up getting tired. If I am tired, then I won't study whole heartedly, or keep to the schedule. Šæā€šĀ§Flashcards This is a good idea because it is not only realistic for me, but also efficient. When I am running errands, or sitting in a waiting room, I can just pull these cards out and study. Šæā€šĀ§App This is also a good idea because it meets my criteria, and most language apps are free and very effective. I can also use this whenever I am free, and it would also be on the privacy of my phone. People wouldn't have to know what I am doing.

  • 8. The Development Of Creative Thinking Essay The term "creativity" is close to the concept of art. People usually conclude that the latter is given by birth, while the creative approach can be developed. It would seem that creativity is a particular talent, and not everyone can use it. Despite this assumption, in fact, it is possible to work out this type of response to the problems. It is only vital to find the right approach and develop specific tactics aimed at the formation of creative thinking. Time goes fast, rapidly evolving technology going forward and the progress requires human attention and concentration, flexible thinking, and quick adaptation to what is happening. The world is constantly in need of interchange of different problems with the help of creative approaches. Cathy Davidson, the author of "Project Classroom Makeover", provides a significant work on the role of creative thinking and its transformation due to changes in the digital era, as well as the process of forming of the selfā€“ confidence during the initial stages of education with the development of imagination and teamwork. In this work, the scientist insists on reconsidering of the very concept of education because of the development of digital age, multitasking society, the influence of the Internet. Also, the author insists on the development of such qualities as initiative, mobility, flexibility, the need for selfā€“development, readiness for unconventional and creative solutions. In this regard, the objective necessity becomes the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Change, creativity and innovation are essential elements for survival and growth of an organization. Creativity is vital for the birth of fresh and beneficial ideas. Creative thinking allows groups and individuals to solve problems or stimulate to think differently in order to bring forth fruitful ideas. The above mentioned creative thinking enabled our team of six different personalities to come together and implement a plan to solve a complex problem in a hospital. Our assigned task was to recommend a plan in order to alleviate hospital readmission among elderly population within thirty days of discharge. In this paper the author is narrating the team dynamics, functionalities and personal competencies in the process of recommending a change in the system. As a member in the innovation leadership team the author is also reflecting on the assessment, capacity for innovation in the organization which is the hospital where the team is assigned. Organizations Organizations are dynamic living systems and change is an inherent capacity of living systems. So organizations need people who can perceive, understand and work effectively in order to make positive changes (Dawson & Andriopoulos, 2014). Our team assessed the organization which was the hospital where the readmissions of elderly population have increased. The assessment revealed the possible causative factors behind the readmission of elderly before thirty days of discharge. • 10. Tok Essay: Critical and Creative Thinking Wilde Theory of Knowledge 3 May 2012 TOK Essay Response: Critical and Creative Thinking Since the dawn of humanity, man has sought to gain further insight on life through attaining knowledge. Knowledge can be defined as any information gained through personal experience. The means of obtaining knowledge include four main branches: reason, perception, language, and emotion. Despite the means, all knowledge is formulated through the process of thinking. Thinking refers to the use of the mind to gain understanding of the world. In the modern educational system, students are trained to think critically and apply gathered information to generate knowledge. However, schools also stress the idea of being original, using one's own creative...show more content... In my IB Chemistry class earlier this year, my class was asked to design a neutralization lab. In our lab, we had the task of reaching a neutralization of an acid and a base. Each student designed his or her own unique experiment to cater to his or her individual creative tastes. I chose to do a titration with a strong base and a weak acid. In contrast, one of my peers chose to use litmus paper to test the acidities of various liquids. A common conclusion can be reached through creative means. Furthermore, creativity plays a prominent role in the study of astronomy. The universe is such a vast space that holds much of the unknown. Dating back to the ancient Greeks, people have attempted to make sense of the universe, to understand its extensity. The ancient civilizations originally used their imagination to picture how they believed the universe to look like. There were no microscopes or rockets to allow travel into space. There was no prior knowledge to evaluate. Creative thinking was used prior to critical thinking. Imagination created the image of space, then critical thinking evaluated its validity. A counterclaim could be that modern technology has allowed humans to observe extraterrestrial activity as well as enter space. Therefore, in modern astronomy, people use critical thinking to analyze their observations to understand the universe. I would argue that although advancement in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Creative and Critical Thinking Essay Knowledge is generated through critical and creative thinking. Creative thinking is something new or original that is created with value. Critical thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions and validates or invalidates a current belief or something that is said to be previously true. Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and creativity? These two types of thinking can be easily separated in regards to concrete or realistic ideas compared to abstract or original ideas however to generate new, acceptable knowledge critical and creative thinking must interact together. The questioning of established beliefs with the creation of ...show more content... Knowledge must have background facts to be considered true and mathematics must use reason to justify their formulas or methods. For example, memorizing the area under a bell curve is very different from understanding how it is derived. Proofs are useful when proving mathematical concepts although they are not concrete and harder to understand. Creative aspects must be considered when trying to derive a difficult proof. Creative problem solving involving mathematics can use sense perception as a way of knowing. In these problems, real life situations allow for the organization of ideas and require that the student's attention be focused on the actual understanding of the concepts rather than the usual memorization of facts from concrete problems. For example, calculating the replanting of trees in a forest would depend on the circumstances surrounding the problems and factors would be dependant on the situation. Is creating a personal solution to the problems more effective than searching for existing solutions? In regards to mathematics, if a solution is known to exist using methods already established, there is no need to search for additional or new solutions. There are always exceptions to any case and new knowledge could form from a completely new and personal solution. This could create new knowledge using creative thinking and could also create a more efficient solution to the one previously used. Applied mathematics uses both Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Critical Thinking Case Study Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations. Critical thinking to begin with "is the use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a desirable outcome" (Sternberg, Roediger, and Helpern, 2007). One of the many situations where critical thinking should have been utilized to achieve a desirable (and perhaps better) outcome was when the International Monetary Fund IMF failed to take action against Straussā€“Kahn, its head at the time, for having an illicit affair with a subordinate by the name Nagy. That was in 2008. Despite Straussā€“Kahn admitting that the said affair had indeed taken place, "the IMF took no action against Straussā€“Kahn other than to say that he had shown poor judgment" (McGreal, 2011). Several years down the line, Straussā€“Kahn was arrested on sexual harassment charges thus causing negative publicity to IMF. One of the key benefits of thinking critically is that such kind of thinking increases the likelihood of achieving desirable outcomes (Sternberg, Roediger, and Helpern, 2007). This is more so the case given that critical thinking encourages an extensive interrogation of facts, openā€“mindedness, prudence in decision making, etc. Define free will, truth, knowledge, and opinion. Explain how we use them to form thoughts. Over time, the terms opinion, knowledge, truth, and free will have Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Employers often require evidence that applicants have received a degree from an accredited school or program (Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, 2010). I did not want to spend the next four years obtaining a degree from a school whose standards are not up to par or a school whose programs have not been recognized as valid by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The next important factor that was critically assessed and compared was the areas of study that each school offered. When selecting a school it was critical to ensure that the school provided the area of study that I was planning to pursue. Since I was interested in the working in the helping profession, it was important that I selected a university that offered a quality Human Services curriculum. This critical assessment eliminated one school, leaving two addition schools for me to assess and distinguish which one I would attend. Lastly, I considered the cost and location of the university. It was very important that I attended a university that was affordable and not too far from my hometown. Critical thinking assisted me in determining that it would not be beneficial to attend a school that would cause me to take out a great amount of student loans that I may not be able to pay back. One of the most important reasons for attending school is to be able to live Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The fast evolution and take up of technology, especially by young people, has a essential influence on education, challenging educators and schools to discuss the changed learning patterns and needs of their students. Creativity and innovation in education is not just an opportunity anymore, but a necessity (Bottino, Forcheri, & Molfino, 1998). Which is why we debate that creativity and innovation are deeply connected but it has also proposed a differentiated approach for the field of education in which creativity is more richly associated to learning, and innovation to teaching. NEW KNOWLEDGE GAIN FROM COURSE One of the most significant information I gained while going through this course was the development of creative learning and innovative teaching. This style of learning and teaching would better prepare our students for academic, and real life success. Technologies play a vital role in learners' lives and can enable educational change towards innovative and creative school cultures. Creative learning is any learning, which involves comprehension and recognition. Helping students to focus upon their thinking skills basing everything on the empowerment of learning. Innovation is the process leading to creative thinking, implementation of new methods, tools and contents that could benefit creative potential (Russ, 1996). Creativity and learning has strong connections to knowledge and learning. Creative learning requires innovative instruction. Innovative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay on Critical Thinking The concepts of critical thinking and creative thinking are both gaining increasing importance in the world today. Critical thinking allows people to understand difficult concepts in a manner that is clearer and more defined. They can more readily understand those concepts if they employ critical thinking. In all portions of everyday life, a person is expected to make independent judgments. Those judgments are based on experience and knowledge. Without the ability to think critically, every situation that a person comes across would have to be considered in isolation from all other situations. When a person encounters a problem that is a new one, he or she may be able to use critical thinking to solve those problems. One...show more content... Critical thinking also helps in decisionā€“making. Both problem solving and decisionā€“making abilities are vital to a prosperous business. Persons who are critical thinkers can make a difference in the companies in which they are employed. Today?s corporations must first recognize that there is a real need for critical thinkers. It is important for both the top management down the line. Critical thinking must be taught and built in to the way the company or organization performs its business. In fact, companies and organizations must embrace the concept of critical thinking. Critical thinking can lead to success story after success story. This type of impact gives any company or organization credibility. According to Supon, one of the fundamental purposes of teaching critical thinking is to enhance the abilities of students to become critical thinkers. Corporate leaders, educational researchers, employers, and parents have continually pushed teachers to assist their students in the development of critical thinking ability. Critical thinking is a skill that ?involved not only knowledge of content by also concept formation and analysis, reasoning and drawing conclusions, recognizing and avoiding contradiction, and other essential cognitive activities? (Supon, 1998). There are proposed reasons for the emphasis that is currently on critical thinking. Many factors can be related to this emphasis. Creative Thinking Essay Robinson states that divergent thinking is "not the same thing as creative thinking" but that it is an "essential capacity for creativity."Milena Segal Many believe that people are born with an innate level of creativity that is later on influenced by the environment in which they are raised. Schools are one of the most influential environments in which people spend an average of eight hours a day. Whether it be a public, private, or home school environment, these early surroundings that children are exposed to shape their creativity. As students, parents, and even teachers we don't realize the effects that the education system can have on ones creativity. We can define creativity as the act of producing novel ideas that are perceived to be unique and useful in society. However because of our technological advancements our society undergoes vast and rapid changes. Oana DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar in her article "The Teacher's Creative Attitudesā€“ An Influence Factor Of The Students' Creative Attitudes" states that because of these unavoidable problems " one needs a wellā€“developed capacity to adapt to new situations and to find new ways to do things. In this context, creativity proves to be a very important resource that might help individuals to deal in a better way with social and technological changes". So, why is it that our education system throws aside the development of the creative aspects of students? Many believe that creativity can be one of both things, a genius trait or a trade off. As Picasso stated before "we are all born with an innate ability for creativity, it is a matter of defining it". Through a variety of research DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar states "that although some people have extreme levels of talent, everyone with normal human capacities is capable of producing creative work under the right circumstances". The notion of tradeā€“off comes from the idea of being able to excel in one area and diverge in another. However "there is no tradeā€“off between creativity and productivity, efficiency, or work quality" ( Oana DŠ”Ń“uā€“GaŠ•ŃŸpar, The Teacher's Creative Attitudes). Critical and Creative Thinking Essay Critical and creative thinking are fundamental to human intellectual progress and artifacts thereof (Dewey, Elder, Csikszentmihalyi, Rosenman, & Gero, 2012). Critical and creative thinking are considered higher levels of thought because while it is believed that critical thinker primarily uses the leftā€“brain and a creative thinker primarily uses the rightā€“brain, both types of thinkers tend to think outside the box, but in different ways. There is no direct link between critical and creative thinking, but they each have different dimensions of thought that are used. They were the only 2 men that I had known in my life, so it was an incident in my life that left gaping holes. At the time, I loved in North Carolina and that is also the place that both my late husband and father resided at the time of their deaths as well, so there were so many bad memories. I had made a decision to move 400 miles away from my children that also lived in North Carolina at the time and a large majority of other family that lived in a neighboring state. It was a huge decision to make at that time, my children were grown, but just stepping out into life good, so in order to make this decision, I had to use both critical and creative thinking in making my final decision. It was a difficult decision making process that I had to go through. Knowing that I needed a change, but at the same time being scared to make such a huge change in my life. I used the critical thinking process to determine answers to some of the questions I seemed to have the most difficulty in answering, such as: 1.What might happen to my children if I leave? 2.What do I know about the state/city I am moving to? 3.What will I do to afford the cost of living change? 4.What is the value of moving versus the value of staying? In these experiments I used different forms of thinking, including critical and creative thinking, in order to form a hypothesis, analyze the data, and then come to a conclusion regarding results and my hypothesis. While knowledge can be formed through the interaction of critical and creative thinking, such as in my physics experiments, the statement given in the title implies that knowledge is solely generated through the interaction of critical and creative thinking. I intend to demonstrate that knowledge can be generated in other ways by showing that either critical...show more content... Unlike the logical, step by step approach of the critical thinking process, the process of creative thinking involves the development of an original and fresh idea, perhaps through brainstorming or sudden inspiration, that is typically a proposed solution or explanation for a problem. Such a process could be attributed to the formation of numerous theories within the disciplines of the natural sciences. Such scientific theories include theories such as Einstein's theory of a static universe, in which Einstein asserted that the universe maintained a constant size or volume, as opposed to the idea that it could be growing or shrinking. The theory sounded viable as an explanation, and they allowed for Einstein to resolve some of the issues with his well known Theory of Relativity. However, what had seemed to be a plausible theory would later be found to be impossible, due to the existence of red shifts which were discovered by Edwin Hubble. As such, the theory of the static universe cannot be said to be knowledge since it does not satisfy the conditions of the Coherence Theory since the existence of red shifts actually denies the possibility of a static universe. This brings to light the major problem in the use of creative thinking to develop knowledge, which is that creative thinking only generates ideas and theories that might be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Creativity And The Creative Thinking CREATIVITY "Seeing what everyone else has seen And Thinking what no one else has thought"ā€“Einstein and Feynman INTRODUCTION "Creative thinking brings about new things ā€“ innovations .........Creative people are those who produce such innovations and the creative process consist of the psychological processes involved in bringing about innovations" (Weisberg, 2006.) Creativity/creative thinking is a quality that every executive /manager should possess. However, creativity is not just a quality that any creative person possesses or is not just a concept which can be developed by research. Creativity is innate but not everyone is blessed with it. As a matter of fact creativity is developed by need for it and those experiences leading to generate creative ideas by means of getting involved into those situations or problems that require you to be creative.
