A graduate of Michigan Technological University,with additional undergraduateand graduatestudies at several
universities and colleges, Brian has thirty four years of experience and accomplishment in the quality sciences.
Since joiningSteelcasein January 1987,Brian has been involved in Quality Assuranceand Quality Engineering
activities in a number of Steelcaseand supplier plants throughoutthe Americas,Europe and Asia. He served as the
Wood Division BusinessUnitManagement Representative for a 21-sitesingleISO9001 registration projectand
served as an internal consultantto assistSteelcase’s Amex de Mexico plantin developing and registering its quality
system. From 1997 to 2008,Brian was “the Turnstone Quality Guy” and helped that Steelcase Brand organization
reduce its customer complaints by over 80%. Brian has been the productdevelopment and launch Quality Lead for
nearly four dozen SteelcaseInc. product lines including panel systems,seating,desks, casegoods, and an
architectural wall system.
In September 2008, Brian was elected as a Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) joiningonly several
hundred world-wide who have earned this honor by havingachieved professional distinction and pre-eminence in
the technology, theory, education,application,or management of quality control .
Brian has been a member of the United States Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 176 on
Quality Management and Quality Assurance, a member of the American National Standards InstituteCommittee Z-
1 on Quality Assurance,served as a member of the Michigan Quality Leadership Award Board of Examiners , and
has held a number of local and national positionsin theAmerican Society for Quality. He has been an instructor
for ASQ educational courses,a guestlecturer on Quality Assuranceat area high schools, colleges and universities,
and a speaker at local,regional and national Quality events. He holds ASQ certifications asa Quality Auditor,
Quality Engineer, Manager of Quality and Operational Excellence,and Six Sigma Black Belt.
Active in Grand Rapids Community College’s Quality Science CurriculumAdvisory Committee since1992,Brian has
been its Chair for several years. He was a founder of the Industrial Advisory Committee which developed the
Bachelor of Science degree in Quality EngineeringTechnology at Ferris State University. He is also a member of
the Excellence Review Committee of the Grand Rapids Area Professionalsfor Excellence(GRAPE).
