I presented to a social media audience via webinar comparing meerkat and periscope features but also explaining what mobile broadcasting is and why these apps have created so much buzz. In this presentation I share of my insights, lessons learned and favorite use cases. The focus of this presentation isn't on @periscopeco vs #appmeerkat rather what you need to know about each so you can test out each or figure out which is best for your audience. I presented this for a special private webinar for this new society today on Mobile Live Broadcasting highlighting tips, tricks and use cases for leveraging both Meerkat & Periscope. YouTube Video at the end as I recorded it on May 3rd 2015 the day after the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight and shared my thoughts on the rumors and unfortunate bad uses cases that happened during that fight. Also explain my strategy for new users on both apps.

Here is my keynote slide deck from my presentation at Social Media Day San Diego where I discussed how brands can leverage live streaming apps Meerkat and Periscope to tell stories, for marketing, for conversations and community. I focus more on understanding exactly what is “Mobile Live Broadcasting” while presenting the features, benefits and use cases for both of these apps. The key for me is less about the technology and more about having a strategy and philosophy for embracing them and engaging with your community. Apps and technology will constantly change but those brands and leaders who understand what it means to engage, create great content and the power of video will be able to jump between apps or like me find value on both apps. ---- New mobile live streaming app Periscope owned by Twitter, has been causing quite a stir on social media, forcing brands to scramble to try and embrace the power behind mobile live streaming. Unfortunately much like Snapchat the technology, the learning curve and the requirement to embrace change is scaring many brands from adopting this technology. The more I work with brands and see brands leveraging Snapchat and Periscope the more excited I am for the future of marketing, social media and community engagement. With that being said too many are looking at these technologies as one in the same. Although both are brand-new, the value propositions, the way brands should be leveraging these technologies, the audience that is using the technology and the community as a whole are very unique. Both apps require a new creative strategic real-time social media strategy that scares many into saying foolish things like: “My target audience isn’t using snapchat” or “B2B customers don’t care or have time to consume live streaming”, both of these myths I debunk in this slidedeck

Twitter Chats are transforming how brands and users find value on twitter as these communities empower conversations and build authentic relationships! This list is strictly my opinion as a "Twitter Chat-Aholic" I've been a guest, a host and a participate in twitter chats for 3+ years with 35+ chats on my weekly calendar.. The Chats I've listed are more than a one hour event they are a community coming together around a hashtag with a common purpose... To Give & Share as a Community! There is No easy button for building relationships on twitter With Twitter's real-time firehose news-feed getting your tweet scene by your target audience becomes a daunting task, which requires social listening, social automation, social amplification and some luck. Beyond being scene by the target audience brands are starting to understand the importance of letting their followers know they’re heard. Many brands are doing this by saying “thank you” for “favoriting” a tweet which is a great start but that acknowledgement doesn’t create conversations let alone build relationships. So brands are stuck asking themselves: What is my community talking about? Where are they talking about it and When? These answers are often easiest to track at live events or conferences because people are gathered together at a specific place and time talking about similar topics and interests allowing for brands and leaders to have conversations with their target community building relationships… “Influence isn’t about who uses a hashtag the most, its about who the community trusts, listens too and has relationships with!” Twitter Chats are like a good local bar “where everyone knows your name” Twitter Chats are social gatherings at a specific place and time with a common theme that everyone can join. The number of followers you have or the amount of tweets you send in a day aren’t relative in Twitter Chats as those that engage and participate regularly give more than take and come together because they want to engage and learn. So for brands that want to understand what their community is talking about, engage with those who are active, identify those who are currently influential and provide value, twitter chats are the place.

Be Yourself, Find Your Voice, Share Your Story 2. Use FirstLast Name of social accounts - Your passion might change but your name won't (Unless your Puff Daddy) 3. Start small and focus on being great in a few places instead of automated in too many! 4. Focus on consistency, while embracing the fact each network requires unique attention! - Your Story & Voice should match across networks but don't automate the same message to every network 5. Focus on sharing and giving what You find valuable! - people follow You for You not what you think they want you to share. 6. Start following more people than you think you should - follower/following ratio means nothing.. How do you know if they're worth following till you do! 7. Unfollowers happen - Worry more about providing value to those who do follow you and it will be the unfollowers loss not yours. 8. #HatersGonnaHate but that's why they give you the unfollow/block/mute button. Bullies, trolls, haters whatever you want to call them exist for everyone but unlike high school you have the ability to silence them! You can't please everyone so focus on being kind and providing value and the noise of the haters will disappear! 9. #ShowUcare - reach out and engage everyone but do research so you can ask a valuable question or comment! -want others time first you must spend time listening to them! 10. Embrace the power of content, all content - Find unique ways to tell your story, the number of views doesn't matter after you get 1 as that one might be the person that changes your world. 11. Tools help amplify your message but they don't replace it.. Test many different free tools as no one tool fits everyone.. Find one that fits your workflow and increases your productivity giving you more time to be human and engage. 12. Learn & follow leaders in your area of interest - promote and share their content to align with their thought process while learning what you can do different to standout. 13. Use hashtags, lists and monitoring tools to find communities, chats and groups of active engagers and start following them! 14. Listen more than you engage - study how, when & what others share to get to know them and improve your strategy. 15. Curate others great content - your time is valuable if someone else wrote a great post curate and add your insights rather than wasting time adding to the noise. 16. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
