2. ROPE
I will need a rope for my music video as this
will be a major influence on the pathos
created as I am to create a noose, to which
will be subtly placed in various locations
throughout the video, to which at first may
seem irrelevant or irrational and indeed
disjointed, however as the narrative
progresses and the song builds up to the
eventual climax, the need for said rope
becomes clear to audiences, and so this will
help to conform to my idea of leaving the
audience guessing right up until the very last
scene.
3. GRANDFATHER/OLD CLOCK
My video tackles the perpetual problem
of depression and therefore the notion
that time is a limited source to some.
Therefore in my music video I will be
cross cutting continuously to a clock
that initially ticks slowly but as the pace
builds gains pace before the eventual
climax that sees the clock stop ‘dead’,
before the outro plays.
4. CLOWN FLOWER
The clown flower will be used by and
worn by the performer, as a tenuous link
to the recurring theme. This will be
integral as the scene develops as it will
offer me an alternate ending, should my
pre planned one not be feasible, as the
performer can throw the flower towards
the camera – shot in slow motion – as the
shot blurs to a fade.
5. ROBIN WILLIAMS NEWSPAPER
Tears of a Clown is a song written as a homage and
really as an obituary for the late Robin Williams
who battle depression throughout his career. The
song tackles his depression by describing him as
the masquerading funny man, as if Williams was
struggling to fight with his depression, but instead
smiled through the rain, with a face seemingly
panted on like the fictional smile of a clown.
Therefore tears of a clown is an oxymoron
expressing that even the happiest of people cry. I
aim to use this newspaper reporting his death in
both the intro and the outro of my music video. At
the beginning it will be vague and irrational as the
newspaper is thrown up into the sky and tracked in
slow motion, however in the outro the camera
focuses on the front page of the newspaper that
reads ‘Robin Williams Dead!’ and suddenly the
entire video becomes poignant.
6. STUDIO EQUIPMENT
Half of my music video will be
performance based and so the need
for studio equipment such as
microphones and guitars for example
is great. Importantly I intend to make
the performance section very
intimate but also very professional
and therefore the use of studio
equipment such as the
aforementioned is paramount.
7. CHAIR
A key scene in my music video will involve a
chair. Given the aforementioned theme of my
music video I ma to make this scene particularly
poignant and harrowing for the audience as it
resembles someone rocking the chair and it
falling as someone drops and hangs suspended
above the ground. Although this is a dark scene I
am to place the shots at intervals as the pace
builds so the effect is greater. Furthermore I aim
not to shoot the actual protagonist performing
the act as I do not feel this is necessary and is far
too intensive for what I am to achieve in this
video which is not a horror show but instead an
awakening to the harsh realties of being in the
public eye.
