The document discusses an intelligent transportation system (ITS) developed by Mobile Systems Research Labs (MSRL) that uses network-centric communication between nodes to optimize traffic flow. The ITS solution supports individual and public transportation, parking management, CCTV, and public information systems. It allows for vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure, and sensor-to-data communication. This architecture enables the ITS to optimize traffic on the whole area by adjusting traffic controllers, provide early collision warnings and detour suggestions, and power online navigation systems using live traffic and transportation data.

1. ITS System
As cities are growing larger there’s an increasing demand for optimizing both the public and private
transport to ease the road traffic. The main purpose of the Intelligent Transport Systems ITS) is to
influence the traffic flow by controlling traffic lights, transport priorities etc.
Mobile Systems Research Labs (MSRL) are the author of a state of the art ITS solution. The system
is based on a fully network-centric and scalable environment, where nodes are communicating
directly, thus greatly increasing the whole system stability and eliminating single point of failure.
The solution is targeted at:
individual transport,
public transport,
parking management,
CCTV,
public information systems.
Supported communication modes, among others, are:
Vehicle-vehicle
Vehicle-traffic controllers
Vehicle – data distribution point
Vehicle-supervision center
Vehicle-passenger information systems
Sensor-station-data distribution point
With such architecture, the ITS system can be used for:
traffic optimization on the whole area by adjusting traffic controller’s settings,
early collision warnings,
detour suggestions to decrease the roads load,
online navigation systems for different modes (pedestrian, car, public transportation systems) taking
live situation (traffic, positions of buses, trams)
advanced reporting used to optimize public transportation system,
redistributing to all registered nodes in the system (thus providing secondary path of the data flow),
providing data for any third party applications,
To maximize the gain from using the system, MSRL provides an advanced traffic model,
which adapts to live road situation controlling the traffic lights.
