2. NATIVE LAND ACT of 1914
•A segregation Act passed by the government as a result
of pressure from the politically powerful white farmer’s.
•It aimed to prevent Africans from competing with
whites in the land market.
•It forced sharecroppers and cash tenants to become
wage labourers and wage earners.
•It set aside less than 7.5 percent of land for Africans.
•Africans could no longer buy ,rent or be sharecroppers
on land outside of the reserves

farming since the land in the reserves was not suitable
for farming
Africans had to seek low paying jobs from mines and
white owned farms.
Africans were exploited by mining companies and
white landowners
