Lacgene Technologies | Agritech: expanding
In January, India agritech company, Lacgene Technologies, begins operations under the name Blue Orb Solutions at the Helix Center Biotech Incubator at 1100
Corporate Square Drive in Creve Coeur. Blue Orb Solutions will create 30 new jobs, build a production facility in spring of 2016, and start manufacturing and
distribution of genetic nanotechnology in 2017.
LockerDome | Social media: expanding
By the end of 2020, social media platform LockerDome plans to hire 300 new employees, incentivized by $3.7 million from Missouri Works. LockerDome currently
has a staff of 45 people and occupies 6,800 square feet at 1221 Washington Avenue. As part of the company’s expansion plans, it will now lease 18,000 square feet
at 1314 Washington Avenue, only a block away from its current space.
Scott Air Force Base | Technology: expanding
Scott Air Force Base is beefing up cyber security. The AFB is putting together a team of 300 people to create the 688th Cyberspace Wing including two squadrons,
each with 3 cyber protection teams; 200 active duty personnel; 60 civilian positions; and a number of contracted employees. The federal government has allocated
$16 million for infrastructure updates over the next two years to support the Wing.
ThrottleNet, Inc. | IT: expanding
Information technology consulting firm, ThrottleNet, Inc., is looking to add 24 new jobs over the next five years to support a growing client base. ThrottleNet is based
in Crestwood where a staff of 40 people service 300 clients.
U.S. Steel | Steel: contracting
On December 27, U.S. Steel (NYSE: X) began several weeks of layoffs in Granite City. Up to 500 union employees will be affected as production idles. There are
signs that the layoffs will be temporary: U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers union are working on a contract to protect the jobs of 18,000 steelworkers
nationwide, and this summer U.S. Steel made large investments to upgrade the Granite City Works plants.
Vectra | Technology: expanding
Corporate headquarters of Vectra (NYSE: OMG), formerly known as OM Group, has moved its 30 employees into the PNC Center in Clayton. Specialty chemicals
companies Vacuumschmelze, EaglePicher Technologies, and Borchers are all operated by Vectra. The company relocated its headquarters from Cleveland, Ohio.
