Helping Your Child Cope with Homework and Exam Stress
I have been an educator for 30 years – the last 12 as a Specialist ASD Consultant to schools in supporting the
needs of our students with Autism in both Canada and the United Kingdom. As a teacher I can appreciate the
difficulties of supporting students with SEN in a mainstream classroom, and as a consultant I recognise that
teachers, teaching assistants, and most importantly – the students themselves need empathy and sensitivity in
implementing positive change.
Our students with Autism often struggle with any form of ‘assessment’ as they navigate the already complicated
and challenging world of Secondary School – both academically and socially. We will look at the causes of anxiety
that are specific to you and your family through the lens of a student with ASD, and offer approaches that are
solution-focused, positive, and proactive.
