3. • The Swamp Dwellers is a play by Wole
Soyinka.
• He is the first African Black writer who won The
Nobel Prize.
• “The Swamp Dwellers” is his one of the famous
works.
• In the play he has presented the conflict between
two ways of living life, one is traditional and other
is modern.
• He projected the duality in way of living life of
African people by presenting conflict between city
life and village life.

4. Intro, Conti….
• There are many problems in village life and
that is why most of the young generation is
moving towards city.
• But an important thing is to be connected with
roots of life.
• Awuchike is the son of Alu and Makuri.
• He went at city to earn money and he never
came back.
• He forget his village and parents.
• Igwezu is the other son who also went to city
from village to the same purpose but he came
back because he was not able to survive in the
city-life.

• Tradition it means cultural
social conversation .
• They belong to non Western
attitude.
• They believe joint family
and live village life.
• And also have some kind of
blind faith on myth, and
rituals, superstition and also
the orthodox people.

have any particular bondage.
• it all accepting Western
ideas culture and forgetting
the tradition of one’s own.

is western attitude .

the superstition they cannot think on their own.

• he says that he can control The Serpent if they will
give him money and grain their crops will be good.

corruption.

• So they are also example of conflict between tradition and

parents as traditionally it has been done he also goes to city

helps his family.

stop people believing in him.

believe him wrong.
• This conflict also suggest conflict between
tradition and modernity in the end blind beggar

demand for money.
• This can be suggested that new generation is
