• Alu
• Awuchike

• Igwezu

• Makuri
• The Beggar
Makuri
• He is married to Alu.
• They have twin sons.
• His profession is a barber
in the village.
• He and his wife bicker
their days.
• And they constantly
believing that one of their
son is dead.
Alu
• Alu is wife of Makuri
• They have a twin sons
• One of is going in city for make
money
• He has returned home to the
village
• She is believe that her son to be
dead
• And she believe that longer time
• Because he has not returned
• She stands by the tradition of her
people and land.
Igwezu
• Igwezu is one of the twins
which belong to Makuri and Alu
• He has returned to the village
• Because his wife Desala left
him
• And go with his twin brother
• He is lost his everything,
money, wife etc
Desala
• She is wife of Igwezu
• She is agree to marry with
Igwezu
• Because she want only live
in city
• She leave her husband
• And go with Igwezu twin
brother Awuchike
Awuchike
• He is twin brother of
Igwezu
• He goes to the city
• And leaves his home –
village behind forever
• He want to make money
and quickly
• He seduce his brother wife
• And keep as his wife
Kadiye
• He is the only priest of
the Serpent God or
swamp God
• He receives sacrifices
from the ordinary people
• He performed all the
rituals
• Behalf of the villagers to
satisfy and specify to God
A Beggar
• The beggar appear in the
story in search of any land
that he can make his own
• He is from Bukanji
• A village of beggar in the
Nigeria
• He usually doesn’t beg
• He is blind
• He believes in Allah
