Current global dynamics and geopolitics in the region will significantly effect how Australia projects its maritime power. The rise of China, including its activities in the South China Sea; the uncertainty of the US policy in Asia; Japan’s free and open Indo-Pacific strategy; the DPRK’s tenacity to test its nuclear capabilities; and Indonesia’s vision of being a global maritime fulcrum, among others, will present challenges and opportunities for Australia.
