A problem today that is of immense importance to me is marriage. Growing up i have had many of my loved ones have marriage issues which
affected me and how i developed myself as a person. When i was eight years old, my parents got divorced and i was compelled by the state of law
to live with my mother. With the abrupt split of my parents i was very agitated and confused by it. Of course an eight year old young girl is not
going to understand why this is happening or how this could happen but as i have got older i now discern the topic and would love to portray steps
into this issue being solved. While i was going from home to home to visit my father on the days he had me, it took away some of the things a young

That is exactly what happened between my parents. I have come up with a year time limit agreement both parties sign on your wedding day where you
can input a 1–7 year limit on your marriage. If you put you wanted to be married for 5 years then you would be but after those 5 years if both parties
acknowledge that their marriage is overwhelming or unhealthy they could go their separate ways without all of stress and heartache for everyone
over a divorce. The children would be prepared for their parents decision and wouldn't have the thought of divorce sprung on them out of nowhere.

More and more women are in the work–force as single moms. Marriage once was the thing to do before anything else was accomplished. Over the
years that number has declined drastically. In 1960, two–thirds (68%) of all twenty–somethings were married. In 2008, just 26% were. Today that
number is declining more in the United States based on an income–gap (Pew Research Center). A controversial issue in today's society is same–sex
marriage that has also affected the decline of marriages in men and women.
Cohabiting has played another key factor in this decline. Most young adults want to take a trial run to be sure the partner is suitable enough to "tie the

As Catholics, we believe marriage is not only a commitment to one another but a commitment to God. For a marriage to be successive, God must

I interviewed John and Cindy about their marriage and the challenges they've faced together as a married couple. I am encouraged by their
relationship and have decided to use their relationship as a model for my second interview. John and Cindy have been married for almost 5 years. In
addition to this union, there is McKenna, Cindy's son. They are a blended family, of course, and are part of the more modern structure of families in

I. Philosophy of Marriage
The philosophy of marriage to me would be to help each other grow and succeed, not only separately, but together whether it's financially, spiritually, or

unit that provides emotional, mental, and physical solitudes that rear us in the right directions; an example of this is that parents teach their children
about responsibility by doing chores and are rewarded with allowances. Marriage promotes a commitment between two individuals who will eventually
produce a family of model contributors to society. Without either instituation individuals let alone society as a whole will fail to exist. Family and
marriage are the ultimate goals of civilization to ensure it will thrive.
I registered for this class knowing the basics of sociology. My understanding of family and marriage has always been a vital part of my gender roles,
and entire development. As a young girl I was taught that relationships, marriage, and eventually a family is what I should aspire to achieve. Our
society promotes it, through my childhood movies like Cinderella; and hears it in John Legends' song "All of me" dedicated to his wife. I have not

Was anyone aware that forty to fifty percent or more of marriages will end in divorce ("Marriage and Divorce")? It could be said that one of the
largest contributing factors to that is how everyone does not really know what marriage is anymore. The entire Western Civilization is spending so
much time trying to figure out what marriage means. They are letting their own marriages crumble. Is a marriage made to be between a man and a
woman, or does a marriage really boil down to some form of gender roles? One way to try and decipher this mystery would be to look for the definition

Marriage has been defined differently throughout the centuries. Today Merriam–Webster defines marriage as, "the state of being united to a person of

Elder (1974) found that women who married later were more likely to have careers, financial stability and be middle class as opposed to lower class
background. What has transformed societal attitudes toward marriage so that young women delay it, older women get out of it, and some women skip
it altogether? Economic factors, a rise in feminism, parental influences, attitudes about sex, educational pursuits, and the divorce rate have all
undergone significant cultural changes and are among some of the reasons being credited for influencing the ideas women have about marriage. Let's
examine these influences and the attitudes of women which determine their decision to marry or delay marriage. We will also examine the
expectations of marriage that today's educated women may have and how these expectations differ from other women's expectations. Economic
factors have resulted in women working outside the home, and have had a strong influence over a woman's decision to marry. "The ever increasing
